The room of the first scene represented the “ideal relationship” that she really wanted to have. The water represents the reality, how shitty her bf was and everything bad he did... it infiltrated the “perfect scene” slowly until the point it outdid her attempts to make everything look fine and she realized the relationship had sinked already. Her life was drowning cause of the toxicity.

The opening of the door wasn't "obviously a mistake", it was the neccessary facing of the ugly and threatening things that already trapped her in the house. She needed to fight through the waves to come out on top. As beautiful as the room was, it was claustrophobic and already compromised by the water outside. Fighting through the water isn't a pleasant experience, but a neccessary part of her path to overcome those struggles

also a bonus point is that from the outside, we see how bad the relationship truly was (which is probably what her family and friends saw) yet she was blind to it until she opened the door and pushed through the hardships of ending a relationship like that

Someone I was watching (PLDtv) interpreted it as her being fine and then getting a phone call from someone that really hurt her (like how sometimes ex’s call you as soon as they know you’re doing well) and it ruined her peace, hence the water slowly dripping in, and then her swell with all the emotions she’d been feeling and just unleash them. that makes a lot of sense to me! I just love this song so much

I think the perfect room represents all the illusions she had in these relationships, but it began leaking, so she couldn't continue ignore all the toxic. So she chose to face it all by opening the door, and all the mess just caught her like that water, so she had to swim to the roof to brake free.

I think that first setting was she appearing to be okey when she was with him. From the outside anyone would have thought she was happy when in reality she was absolutely miserable. When they broke up, she cried and let it all out, she let herself pour all her emotions, all the toxicity of that relationship, all the anger and the sadness ( represented in all that water), and in this second scenario anyone would have thought she wasn't really okey but she was really *happier than ever* without him. And could start to realise all the wrong he did to her so she could start healing and loving herself. She's so strong and this song is so empowering it always gives me goosebumps all over my skin!

i personally feel like the beginning was like you guys said, the idea of what an ideal, perfect, healthy relationship looks and feels like. it matches with the beginning of the song as well with how shes checking in on him, asking him if hes thinking about her like she is about him while also trykng to convince herself that everything is fine, that she doesnt need him, and that shes happy now that theyre apart. you can hear the sadness and almost longing in her voice and as the song progresses and is about to switch, that longing turned into pain and sadness and that the perfect facade that she had been living in was all crashing down around her. especially in abusive relationships, people will often lie and convince themselves into believing, truly, honestly believeing that they are happy and that everything is fine when theyre not. its like an extreme form of denial that can literally consume a person and when that shit collapses it COLLAPSES. its literally so bad that people can hurt or potentially end themselves due to the sheer shock and reality of their situation. you can kind of see this facade and idea collapse around her and essentially try to kill her. you see her panic, you see her try to get out yet its like she's drowning. this part i actually loved the most because while its short, it represents dealing with the pain and dealing with the reality that shes not okay and that shes hurting. when she reaches the surface though, she smiles. the sunken house is almost like an image that a, everything that happened before is beneath her, but it also represents the amount of pain that surrounded that room, that facade. she was surrounded by it, smothered by it and the only way to get out of it was to realize all of that pain and suffering, a thing that is dark and scary and often times is the exact reason why people DONT go through it and unpack it, even though they both subconsciously and consciously know that they need to. its also from that point on that shes smiling and screaming and jumping around and to me it looks like how it feels to be free from a hellish relationship like that. you feel her pain, her anger, her betrayal, as well as her astonishment, almost as if shes saying "i cant believe i let you do that to me. how dare you do that to me" and rather than try to pretend everything is fine and/or blame herself or try to run from it, shes holding him accountable for the shit he did and the hell he put her through. shes angry at him and how he lied to her so easily, how he manipulated her the way he did and how he literally ruined her life. she gets it all out and puts it out there in the open that shes done with him and while it hurts, shes never going to give him the light of day every again because shes realized her worth, shes realized that he is a piece of shit that can go to hell. its that sense of freedom and life that you can see from her by the way she smiles. its also the symbolism in the rain as well. the rain washes away that pain and is like a rebirth to a new, stronger her. its also a representation of literally feeling alive again. feeling that rain on your skin, feeling that happiness and freedom and remembering what its like to smile and laugh again. thats also why she jumps back into the water at the end as well because now the water is no longer that pain, those smothering, suffocating feelings, its now her pool with the new her that she can swim in if shed like to simply because she can. the song, as well as the whole video is absolutely gorgeous and stunning, especially for people who have been through a similar experience and feel that same pain and outlook on their past partner(s), as well as their lives before. im so sorry this was so long but it holds a very large part of me, especially because ive been there, unfortunately, multiple times and hate myself for it every damn time lmao. anyways if you read the whole thing i hope you enjoyed i guess lmao and thanks

The way I interpret it by relating it to my life cuz I resonate with this song so hard is that shes genuinely happier than ever when he’s not around. The rooms perfect and bright but when she’s on the phone saying how she’s happier than ever it’s being brought back up and him trying to weasel back in just drowns her because he’s there now therefore she isn’t “happier than ever”. Later in the song she says “just f*cking leave me alone” which I see it as just leave her alone so she can be happy. Yeah hope that makes sense ❤️

First video I have see of @Beards and Brains and I really liked the communication between the two of you, giving enough time to pause so the other could finish putting a thought and finding the right words. You are both truly listening to each other and have an interest for what you are saying. I wish I had someone who I could have conversations like this, without being interrupted and talked over, when people do this, it’s cause they don’t really care for what you have to say. I have become a man of very few words, I don’t waste my breath anymore engaging with people who aren’t really listening,

I love how this is a song/video that can have tons of interpretation. Mine is: Billie is at this stage of her life that she's finally happy and peacefull (which is why the room is so clear, light and cozy), she got rid of that horrible toxic relationship. She's talking in the phone about it, expressing herself about this toxic time of her life on a retrospective way, she's self-aware now that she's been through it and it's over. But trauma doesn't get out of your life easily, it's always surrounding (water) your mind, you often think that you're way past that but it's always somehow LEAKING. Sometimes you just open a door inside of yourself and it soaks you violently with memories, horrible feelings that make all your scars hurt. And it's so tiring to realize you're not completely healed, it's frustrating to know you let yourself in that situation, it's confusing to understand why that happened and why somehow it still hurts and affects you.

She actually said the water dripping in the room and her not noticing it is exactly like an abusive relationship because you don't notice you're being abused until it's gotten too far.

Watch the live video to this song it’s even better, i absolutely love her and her voice, she should be overrated, cause she deserves it. She’s different, but watch her studio video with her singing, she’s adorable. I love this song and she wrote this and produced it I believe, she’s just truly amazing at everything.

He is actually very correct she said in an interview that the beginning is her leaving a voicemail basically getting her stress out to him but then she was in tears because she still has that one but she can’t get rid of because of the memories and the tears just kept coming and it flooded her world and it felt like she was drowning in her tears but then she swam through her tears and through the drowning and felt so cleansed and healed and it was like dancing in the rain washing away all that stress and finally being Happy and free
