They knew the true roots of the music (JAMES BROWN) and knew how to stay true to a genre of music but most importantly make hit records while staying true to the genre. A lot of people will either make hits or stay true to the genre but it's essential to do both.

*I was blessed to be a 90’s teen and see the Beastie Boys three times.* One of which was at one of the Lollapalooza festivals. They were one of the first artists I saw that were very politically and socially conscious. They moved away from the type of content they did in the very early days and evolved. It was cool getting to see them live.
