Happy 100th Birthday, Orson!
«O» Stands for «Orson»: This is an excerpt from from «Radio Primer», written and directed by Norman Corwin, Welles’s colleague at Columbia radio, and originally broadcast on May 4th, 1941 (four days after the premiere of Citizen Kane). The song plays on Orson’s Shakespearean experience, being based on the bard’s «Who Is Sylvia?», and references one of the tag lines for Kane, «It’s Terrific!» One of the narrators of this program was Everett Sloane who co-starred in Citizen Kane and had appeared in Welles’s radio plays, as had Beatrice Kay.
