I remember Dr. .Demento, who was HUGE Spike fan, saying that everything Spike did was direct to disk--- no recording of multiple tracks or mixing--- everything had to be timed perfectly. He doubted anyone today would have the talent and skill to pull that off.

Or have to wait until late evening to go the match. Ray Davies produced some of the greatest songs of all time.
