In this video I make techno music on "just" one drum machine - Elektron Octatrack MK2. Well, Octatrack has been on the shelf for some time, but the moment I bring it back to the desk is always amazing! I love its features for live techno performance. And this time I have nothing connected to it! Just the Octatrack and a sample pack! The Octatrack Performance!
For my taste the Elektron Workflow and the Sequencer both perfectly fit into the Techno Workflow. They enable you to jam easily and also create final tracks at the end.
I ended up creating and recording 2 different techno tracks at 137 bpm and they are good enough to share. Also I did some post processing of the final tracks in Ableton with Analog Heat and iZotope Ozone 9.
Both tracks are made with samples from Tech & Techno sample pack from Elektron.

This is my channel where I share my experiences, ideas, reviews and tutorials related to Electronic Music Production. I focus mostly on Techno and House music. I am myself an engineer and I am quite obsessed with the Music Technology and Sound Design. I like making music without a computer. I like playing Electronic Music Live with my Minimal Dawless Setup. I love Eurorack Modular Techno and always keen to talk about the modular workflow.
I strongly believe that nothing can be better than a good Dawless Techno Jam!

That is so true! However this is my first and only OT! And purchasing it was a challenge! They dropped just 350 of them and the website was just crashing at the checkout. I still have one order there in a weird "pending" state haha. Thanks for watching, your feedback and sub!

@@IhorMedia oh man, I can tell you... I was refreshing the website like mad, then managed to place the order but couldn't checkout. But eventually, it worked and I got mine. What's funny is, I only got to know about the sale "by accident" when it was posted on Twitter right when the first sale opened. Then had to make a really fast decision on whether or not to spend > 1000€ on an Octatrack, even though I already had an MK1. But I don't regret it at all; the CF card which came with it also has some awesome content. If i remember correctly, they opened another short purchase window the next day because it was such a hassle for many.

@@IhorMedia I can imagine! I have to admit, my first impulse for buying it was the idea to flip a rare item and make a quick buck. But when it arrived, I simply couldn't. "Just gotta try it once before putting it up for sale!", and it was just sooo good, I had to keep it. It's worth way more to me than the money I'd get from a quick flip. It's the perfect center of my setup, and it likely won't get replaced by whatever anytime soon.

@@IhorMedia hi thanks for reply greatly appreciated, I wanted to ask u on previous stream Metropolix you mentioned the Run /reset between Digitakt and UMidi which old version had but new shorter 1u dosnt have, how did you change this to run on UMidi by signal from DT and in DT settings???? Mind you I have not got UMidi 1u module I have Polyend Poly 2 not sure if this can do same??? Also have you checked out Stream by Electrionisounds on the new Mazzatron Quand it might interest you but had me scratching my head🤕🤕🤕🤔🤔🤔hope u well my friend Martin👍🆒🎶🎶🎶

@@martintaylor9205 no worries, Martin. Let me try to get it straight here. uMIDI module is an old one and I guess it has both Run and Reset outputs. MIDI 1U is a new one. It has Reset output, which can be reconfigured into Run. I did it via the configuration app from intellijel. Poly 2 honestly, I have no idea. But you can check their user manual, I am sure it has an answer. Electrionisounds stream, no I have not watched it. I might tho. Hope this answers your questions!

Hey! Thanks for your kind words and feedback! It is important for me to know that people learn from me! I appreciate you! Regarding Elektron product it of course depends on what you need. But if you are just starting Octatrack might be (even will definitely be) a little too much to start with your Elektron journey. Digitakt is great tho. Or you can even try cheaper options like Model:Cycles or Model:Samples. They are amazing! I've got some videos with Digitakt on my channel, check them out!

For someone who has made a bit of music, 30 years of DJing, which do you think gets me into process a little easier? Just curious. If you’ve answered this in a video I havent found yet, apologies!!

Well, there is a lot of difference if between those! In a nutshell: The Octatrack is a live performance sampler and mixer; The Rytm is an analog drum synth. I would suggest you to watch one of my videos Octatrack vs Digitakt. And think of a Rytm as a Digitakt with analog synths inside, not just sampler. That might give you some insight.

Great stuff man! I really dig your OT videos! I have one question though: at 13:10 it seems like you're unmuting track 1-4 by switching from scene B to A. How is that possible?

Hey man! Thanks for kicking in! ✌️ There is this trick in OT: in Quick Mutes mode, when you hold Func you are kinda queuing the mutes/unmutes. Then they will switch all together into the opposite state when you release Func button. In this particular situation I was holding the Func for a long time, and tracks 1-4 were waiting until I release Func to be unmuted. Hope that makes sense 😁

Thank you, my friend! ✌️ In this video I tried to have an entire Octatrack enlarged and zoomed when I do something "important" on it. Also main focus, perhaps, is not to see exactly what I do, but kinda follow the story. In any way thanks for your feedback. I will take this into consideration!

Thank you for tuning in, Ivan! You can definitely use single cycle waveforms on the OT. Make sure you select Flex track for it and switch Loop option on.

Hi Ihor have a question : can you store in the scenes different samples and patterns ? To use the crossfader to transition to the next song for example. If not, is there controlled way to play a long live set on this device with an external synth ? Meaning being able to go from a song to another.

OT can’t change patterns with the crossfader. However transition from one track into another is definitely yes. OT is a sampler for live performance. You could record your outro on one track and loop it. Then fade into not recorded version back. Congrats with the purchase! Good luck with learning. And keep practicing. This is the most important thing!

Привет Никита! Это очень сложный вопрос! По умолчанию я бы сказал что Rytm (или что-то из Digi's), так как это новое поколение девайсов. Octatrack слегка устаревший. Но опять же - смотря зачем. Если нужна драм машина - Rytm / Syntakt / Digitakt. Если нужен перформанс миксер - Octatrack.

Haha! That is not Push 2, it is Novation Circuit. I got it from a friend to try, but haven't had a chance to do it. Push 2 tho is always in my studio. It is the best hardware controller, to be honest. I love it! Thanks for kicking in, Mark! ✌️

@@IhorMedia keep up the good work and love your vids. I love Push2 as well. For Euroracki use an ES9 audio interface, place an iPad Pro on the Push2, and have Ableton on the iPad as an extended screen. Then I can use the Push2 knobs as an expensive 8 channel mixer 😂
