Maneiro.

As for the birds, men like to raise them because of their singing, if a bird has a really good singing it can easily go for more than a thousand dollars. People raise and trade their birds with each other. It's kinda like pokemon but in real life.

My family in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, they essentially live on the outskirts of a favela. The people in the Favelas are actually some of the sweetest and most warm hearted people I had ever met. I just wanna thank ClothMap for doing this video and showing how the people and living in the favelas are actually like

Hello. The vídeo is very good and presents your view of the favela with a genuine point of view. But I, as a brazilian have to point out that the comments made by your guide are shallow on some areas. The reality is very complex and it is hard to separate good guys from bad guys most of the time. Police often shoots before asking, many times with prejudice judment. Drug traffic and how it merges with the people from inside and outside favelas is difficult to gasp. I have to agree that the vast majority of people from favelas are regular and kind workers. If you ever came back to Brazil I would suggest that you get to know some of these people. They love games too. For last, I recommend a few videos you can easily find online that show more about this reality. The docummentary "Falcão meninos do Tráfico" and the movies (fiction based on reality) "Cidade de Deus (city of god)" and "Tropa de Elite". Cheers!

Cops are marked for death here, if they go easy on a real criminal they're dead, so, because of the risk of getting a shot from anyone, they treat everyone like a criminal until they're certain that person is not a criminal.

In 2017 134 police officers we're murdered only in Rio, most of them when they were off duty, cause they were not expecting a criminal to recognize them without the uniform.

Hey Drew, I'm brazilian and I'm loving the content from Brazil you are posting. Unlike many others, this is a great series that shows the reality and don't focus on stereotypes like "all brazilians love football, samba and stuff". That isn't quite the reality and it seems that other channels focus on this and even makes the stereotype stronger. Thank you for bringing this awesome content.

I'm a German doing voluntary work in Sao Paulo for a year. I recently spent a few days in Rio. It's the most beautiful city I have ever seen in my life. Sadly me snd 3 friends of mine got robbed by 4 guys with a gun in the middle of a day in a street that seemed quite nice. I then saw a few policemen and told them what happend. They just told that I was stupid to take my phone with me and that they would kill all the criminals. I think this just shows how undertrained the police are and how the people in the favelas are neglected and marginalized, that they have to steal to get by. It was an amazing city and I loved it and I will definitely visit it again. But you just have to be a bit careful and stick to the roads where most people are. Thanks for reading have a nice day.

So good. Thank you very much for coming here and showing Brasil to the world. I live in Rio for 5 years and I have never got in a Favela, mostly because of fear, and I confess I still don't have the balls to go after this video, despite the fact the people there are mostly respectful and good. I work close to Rocinha and I could hear shootouts at least 3 days this week. It caused me shock at first, but it is curious how used to such a thing one can become, as I now hear it and just keep on with my doings. Brasil needs help. We need politicians to care about us. We need to stop fighting with each other about which political parties are corrupt or not (probably all of them are). We need to educate our children to transform our Country. Sadly, I don't see we getting there. "Not with that attitude". I hope I'm wrong and you can prove me.

The cheap labor thing did help increase the population and quantity of the favelas, but it's not how it actually started. In the early 20th century, the poor people of Rio de Janeiro (by the time, the capital of Brazil) lived in "Cortiços" (which means "tenements"). In order to attract people and investments to the 20 year-old republic, president Rodrigues Alves established the modernization and urbanization of Rio as the main goals of his government, in an attempt to mask the reality of Brazil. His government enacted the "Lei da Vacina" ("Vaccine Law"), which consisted in forced vaccination of the population. This triggered massive riots and demonstrations, in a thing now known as the Revolta da Vacina ("Vaccine Revolts"). Then, the government proceeded to the aesthetic modernization. For the sake of beauty and urbanization, most Cortiços were destroyed and the people who lived in them had nowhere to live. They took the scrap wood that remained, and literally ran to the hills, where they started building new homes and effectively gave birth to the modern Favelas.

Edu Renesto and it's applied to almost every other major city, here in Porto Alegre our biggest poor neighborhood (Restinga) is made of people expelled from central areas in the name of "progress" and sent to a new neighborhood far away from downtown with the promise of the military government that they would have better houses, but they were never built and the people that were living in camps made up a favela

i'm brazilian, born in Rio de Janeiro and oh my, this video is beautiful. if anyone is interested, there's a movie called "elite squad: the enemy within" which is the sequence to the first "elite squad". it portrays the "pacification" and also problems that came with it (i'm not saying pacification is all bad - the iniciative itself isn't bad at all - i'm saying some corruption and crime organizations took advantage of it). it's actually a very good movie in everything it does, and also it's very realistic considering the reality of Rio de Janeiro. the characters and events are all based on true stories. for example: the police in the favelas are actually not always a sign of "protection" :P, since there are a lot of militias formed by policemen.

I gotta tell it to you guys: thank you for showing the world this before unexplored side of Brazil in all these episodes. Those old console and games, they were my childhood. My parents raised me in a house that became each time more secure, with many layers of fences and high walls. I was allowed to go to stores around but somehow I had no friends which I could go to their houses walking, only school and church friends I had to ask my mom to take me by car. So, games were like my friends somehow. I wasn't living exactly in a favela, but the reality around me wasn't that much different. The city I lived in that time was recently put in a "don't visit at night" list made by the US Embassy, so it's still not that different from a favela. Today I live in other city near Brasília, loving games and still fearing the action of bad people (I got robbed for the first time last year in a street near my house, two months later I got robbed again in the same spot, in broad daylight), so games are still a great option of entertainment. And now I'm trying to became a game developer as a hobby. You showed the world a vision very very close to what was and still is to love games in Brasil! And with proudness and a little bit of shame, we hope for a better future for us and our games, too! Thank you again!
