This song is an English version of a song written by the Argentinian composer/singer known as Sandro (Roberto Sanchez). And, yes, the music sounds a lot like Charles Aznavour's Hier Encore (Yesterday when I was young); in fact, there were some legal issues with Sandro's composition for that very reason. Eventually, the court ruled there was no copyright violation.

Excellent voice! You should check out an artist named Gene Pitney a.k.a. the "Rockville Rocket." His 1964 hit, "It Hurts To Be In Love" is an absolute CLASSIC! Gene was part of the "Brill Building Sound." Located in NYC, studio artists in the Brill Building sampled many different genres and musical influences. This era brought about a signature pop sound in the late '50s through mid '60s. Enjoy the music from this amazing crooner!

Englbert has one of the most pure, strong and pitch perfect God-given male voices in ever. He could easily have been a Pavorotti or that level in any musical genre. He has never sang a bad note or off pitch in his life. Well into his 80's now he sings like this today. His remarkable pure talent is a creation of God, not a computer like big artists of today. What are they left with when the powe goes out?

EH had one of the most technically perfect voices of his generation. He actually hated being called a crooner, because crooners tend to stay with an affair safe range, but Engelbert in his prime had a three octave range and regularly pushed his voice. He and Tom Jones have had quite a rivalry through the years. that’s sometimes gotten pretty nasty.

Such a beautiful song and video! That said, did anyone else notice that the melody of the refrain is a direct copyright infringement of "Yesterday When I Was Young", which was written 4 years earlier? I kept waiting for it to differ, but it didn't! Listen to the instrumental part with the violins towards the end. Identical, note for note!!! Dozens of artists covered "Yesterday...", but my favorite, because it's the most heartfelt version to me is sung by Roy Clark, closely followed by Glen Campbell, Shirley Bassey, Willie Nelson and Andy Williams. It's well worth checking out for the lyrics along...
