Llanberis in North Wales, is one of the best places to find out about the Welsh Slate industry, as it is home to the National Slate Museum, housed in one of the largest slate quarries in the world. Dinorwig had a workforce of 3000 men at the turn of the 20th century, and slate was the main support for the Welsh economy. To learn how the slate industry changed Wales forever, its highs and lows and eventual demise you need to come to Llanberis and experience this fascinating museum.
We will take you on a tour of the museum and also visit other wonderful attractions in Llanberis to make it a wonderful and varied day out in this charming village.

Thank you Simon and Will once again. Not as bad as going into mines but still dangerous work for the workers and their long term health. Amazing museum, as you said looks like they had just downed tools. Have a great week =-) and thank you.

The Old Dart is fortunate in having a large population within day-trip range of pretty well all its landscapes. Love the toy trains of Wales, especially having had a mate who used to drive a local example of these tourist anachronisms. Great to view this continuing series, though sad not to have my old Welsh mate still around to add to the experience.

A few years ago (I think) I watched a BBC series that was finally uploaded on KZfaq. It was the series where a group pretend to be living in certain era's or during a particular time in history. Anyway, they showcased the slate mining industry etc. Quite interesting.

@@MemorySeekers I do think of you guys trying to make your videos all bright & sunny - in the UK, but I s'pose it's good to show that in spite of what the weather throws at you - and it can be ghastly, there is generally something for the valiant to do! Wrap up warm with a sturdy pair of gum boots or waders & off you go! I see the blossoms & leaves are making an appearance, so Spring is trying to raise the bar. We all enjoy your videos, which is why I'm sure so many turned out around Snowdonia this Easter!! Keep well, & hope all is staying afloat in your world.

Humans tend to have that effect everywhere that they proliferate. But then Nature herself can produce some pretty dramatic "scarred up landscapes" - cf The Grand Canyon and numerous Volcanic blast areas around the world. New crags are often colonized by opportunistic species and sometimes they can be the saviours of some hard-pressed species in odd areas.

A shame it's still not quarried and slate tiles still sold. It's an easy access open cast quarry. Yes it's more expensive to buy real slate but there are a lot of rich people in the world. Smells a bit like laziness to me...
