V is actually a very complex performer with a very wide range. He can put on the deep, aggressive growl-style singing when needed and he can also deliver really high notes. He does love jazz/R&B. I would love to see your reaction to his song Stigma. Here's the link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l6dkaJaa37bHqWw.html

34:51 we are used to Tae (V) sharing his limelight all the time, he values the people around him and let us know so we appreciate them too. even here, he introduced the band in the beginning so when it was their time to shine we knew exactly who they are. All in all (Layover) is a calm album to gives a space to relax after hectic day to day life and V's voice is so warm and healing

38:31 "focused on the music" THIS this statement should be the foundation of your understanding of BTS and Army. Yes, there is absolutely the visual components, the choreo, fashion etc... BUT that is not what keeps a global fandom as large as Army with age ranges from children to seniors engaged like we are. It is about their music, their story telling, their ability to put their own experiences and perspectives and make it universal in a way that entertains, comforts, and educates that really inspires us.

V is my bias of the group, so I'm so pleased you checked him out. He really does have quite the range, but really leaned into his slow, jazzy preferences in this album. :)

Thank you for your insightful reaction. I learned a lot from your comments. ARMY don't mind long reaction videos. We love listening to people talking about our guys. While V writes a lot of his own songs, for his album "Layover" he chose to accept songs written by other people that fit with his vision for the album. Like his self-written songs, these are also filled with longing and nostalgia. I find his self-written songs more interesting. For example, V loves photography, so he writes "Scenery", which talks about capturing memories in pictures. "Snow Flower" is a description of a snowy, wintry day. "Four o'Clock" (with RM) is about his feelings when he was waiting for a friend at night in a park. Also, many of his songs have an extended instrumental section, so what happened in the second song is actually on brand for him. V is actually one of the more extroverted members of the group. He's free-spirited, spontaneous, and makes friends easily. He's an old soul, and yet has an air of innocence about him. I'd refrain labeling any of the member with "the timid one" or "the bad boy" or the like. We are all multi-dimensional people after all, and shouldn't be reduced to a label. One of the things I find fascinating about BTS is that the members are very different artists, and yet equally talented. I hope you'll explore more of their solo work and find out for yourself. But if you want to see BTS as a group, I recommend either their *Tiny Desk Concert* with three songs, so you can see how they structure their songs, or their *FESTA Room Live,* a medley of seven songs, to see their versatility. Oh, since we talked about passion for music in your previous reaction, I'm reminded of a couple of their songs that touches on their relationship with music: * "Hip Hop Lover" - an homage to hip-hop, where each of the three rappers tell about their personal relationship with hip-hop and give a shout-out to the hip-hop artists that influence them * "First Love" - Suga's solo song about his relationship with the piano * "Black Swan" - a song about burnout, specifically their fear of losing their passion for music

I would love to hear your reaction to "First Love" by BTS member and producer SUGA (pronounced like sugar without the "r" although he selected it off his favorite basketball position - shooting guard). SUGA grew up poor but passionate about music, especially after hearing soundtracks in Japanese film. His first instrument is piano, which he uses for song composition, and now he also plays guitar. Musicians tend to be surprised by his song "First Love" when they mainly view BTS as a boy band or pop group.

Layover came out September 28, 2023. I also love Rainy Days. V is a lover of Jazz and R&B. He also love classical and big band. He has an eclectic taste in music and has a unique personality. BTS debuted in 2013 as a Hip Hop Idol group, with a small independent label at the time (Big Hit Entertainment). They are not your typical boyband. And they write, compose, and produce, the majority of their music. Their CEO gave BTS a lot of Artistic Freedom. They are also Performance artists, hence the complex and interpretive dance styles, and their ability to bring forth their feelings and messages in their music videos. BTS's fans love their messages and their lyrics, their sincerity and passion for their music, and how they appreciate their fans. I'm a 57 year old BTS ARMY since 2020. I found them during the pandemic, and they sparked my curiosity. I checked out their music and was hooked on their lyricism and their choreography. I've never seen a "boy band" dance at the level that BTS dances, or have as much passion. And I never saw a group that raps as well as they do. They are all so amazingly talented and versatile. You can't compare them to other boy bands because there are no other "boy bands" that do it the way they do. And they don't hold to genre boundaries, but they stay true to their Hip Hop and R&B roots. I'm linking you a performance for their 8th year anniversary celebration in 2021. It's called FESTA Room Live. It's one of my favorite performances of theirs. And a song they wrote for ARMY in 2023, as a goodbye for now before they enlisted for their mandatory military service. 6/10/2021 - BTS ROOM LIVE #2021BTSFESTA w/Fan Subs - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y7BdfLBjzbKmhZc.html 6/13/2023 - BTS Take Two Live Performance w/Eng. The album was set to be listened to in order to all songs have videos to further express the stories in the songs. Such good music. This album reflects V’s (Kim Tae Hyung) personal tastes. V is a baritone but also has the widest vocal range in the group so he can also hit those high notes. V has amazing charisma on the stage as well. V did not write this music but he does write songs and you should check out his other solo music.

Thank you for your very informative reaction. Learned a lot. V is an extrovert & is a friend to all he meets. V is also the only Baritone in the group. He has the largest range of all the members and can sing in his very low tone & then can hit his high ranges. Most groups use instruments as accompaniments to their music but BTS uses their choreography. Yes, his album is out and can be heard on Spotify, Apple Music as well as Bangtan TV. V is a very charismatic individual with a unique take on life. He is known as “The Idol of Idols” and a lot of up & coming Kpop artists like to explore & copy his facial expressions & body language when he performs. V is basically an “ole soul” & it shows in his musical preferences, Jazz, the classics, R&B as well as classical music. V was raised by his Grandparents till he was 14 & learned to love this style of music at their feet as well as his Fathers. V, along with the other members do write their own music. For this album, V chose to have writers send in music & he hand picked the songs that fit his storyline. He has asked that we listen to them in order to appreciate their message. To appreciate his color & range you might listen to “Stigma”. Others that I personally enjoy are Winter Bear, Sweet Night, Inner Child, Singularity & Snow Flower to name a few.

I respectfully disagree that it felt more mature, it just felt different. This is just different genres and with j-hope you saw music video and this is live band in cosy setting. Also in their lyrics they talk about completely different topics. V's whole album filled with nice love songs (i'd say post-breakup songs), j-hope wanted to talk about himself and about social issues, so it is two completely different feelings and moods. I think you can actually enjoy j-hope - on the street (with j cole). It is more calm song with a warm message.

This was such a great reaction and analysis! As another BTS member RM wrote in his song 'Do You', "in life, like in music, a defined genre is a trap." I think that's something BTS has lived by throughout their career. While they're ultimately making music for a broad audience, they've never been afraid to experiment and fuse different genres. It really takes time to explore their discography, and even if one song isn't your cup of tea, the next will totally surprise you. 'Do You' is a pretty aggressive song (it's great), but RM also did a Tiny Desk Concert recently which I'd describe as more meditative. His lyrics are always very interesting... I also recommend his songs 'Wildflower' and 'Still Life'. Even with j-hope from last time and his rock-rap sound with the laid-back flow, that was just one of many strings in his bow. He can be fast and aggressive, soft and introspective, or raucous and fun. The same is true for all of BTS, so it's hard to recommend any one song or performance that encapsulates their range. For songs on the softer, more lyrical side... V has some solo songs within BTS albums such as 'Stigma' and 'Singularity' which are more straight-up R&B but they're great. Another song I love is 'Blue & Grey' (the MTV Unplugged version is particularly good). Songs like 'Tomorrow', 'Rain', '134340' and 'Butterfly' are softer too ('Butterfly Prologue Mix' is my personal favourite version). On the total flipside you have songs like 'UGH!" which is an aggressive rap song about anger and society, or 'Dis-Ease' which has a funkier old-school hip hop vibe but is still pretty energetic. Another random song I love is 'Paradise' because the structure of lyrics vs. composition tells such a story. Sorry this comment is getting too long! They have nearly 500 songs between them at this point so it's hard to know where to start! Finally a pro tip: If you plan to react to any album tracks, a good source for translated lyrics is the blog 'DoolSetBangtan' which explains some of the metaphors and cultural references. Fan-made lyric videos on youtube are often pretty poorly translated so I'd avoid them. [Edit:] Having finished the video, I do think you maybe still have some preconceptions about BTS as a 'boyband' but I think that will fade if you get to know them better... it's funny, because they obviously are a boyband, they have choreographed dance routines, bright hair colours, they can wink at the camera and put on a complete 'boyband' pop performance when they want to. And indeed they were formed by a company... but their actual personalities, story and growth are a lot more complex than that. In short, some of them have been making their own music for about 15 years now, and they had to fight extremely hard to get to where they are, coming from a small label on the verge of bankruptcy. They were initially going to be a hip hop crew, but changed direction when the company got into financial trouble, and since then they've been set on the path of a 'boyband'. Unlike the majority of kpop idols they were given a large amount of freedom to make their own music and control their own careers and lives. They've written a lot about the conflict between their image as 'kpop idols' and their identity as 'artists' over the years, which you'll find out if you end up doing a deep dive, but suffice it to say there isn't really a 'cute one' or a 'sensitive one' or a 'bad boy'... just seven multifaceted people. In general, I would just wait a little before you stereotype the fans as being "mostly about visuals, fashion, who's the most attractive' and thinking our main involvement in the music is 'melting' at the sound of a beautiful voice. I really did enjoy your reaction and I can see you're open-minded, so I'm trying to help you navigate away from preconceptions that will probably be unpopular with your intended audience!

Whether as a group or solo, BTS NEVER makes the same song twice. They have all spent around a year releasing solo singles/EPs/albums before entering the military, so it has been nice to see their individual personalities shine. Although their fans ARMY already know them well, the general public have got a taste of their talents, who may have been reluctant to listen to a korean "boyband'. Looking forward to you digging into all the members and the group.💜

It's wild to me that this album didn't do so well in the States. In 2022 I might have shrugged it off as "jazz isn't that big over here" (ironically) but Laufey got huge last year with her 2023 album Bewitched which is a pop-jazz album that leans more heavily into the jazz realm than V did here. I would have figured that more people would be into Layover given the rising popularity of the pop/jazz combo.

@@kimleeclau7529 I think V just didn’t want to do heavy promotions in the US, not all the members did. His promotion in Japan was very smart bc Japan is the second biggest music market in the world and a great target market for the genres of music that layover fit in.. He had music videos for all the songs in his album and got to perform all of them in K-pop shows. Early BTS was heavy hiphop/rap/r&b but they really dive into many genres over the past 10 years. Not all, but many of their songs delve deep into social/political issues experienced by Korea's youth but are relatable to a wider audience too. Like my 40 year old self. They also have a lot of songs about love and the idea of loving yourself. And songs snapping back at their haters. More recently (during and after the pandimic) they released more happy/poppy music to cheer up the fans and break into the American market. But the great thing is that for all of their solos, they are able to express their individual styles and tastes. I suggest Jungkook's "Standing Next to You" also BTS has a Tiny Desk with the whole group. (you have to search for the version with English subs) They sound amazing live. BTW, ARMY doesn't mind long videos. We're quite used to deep dives into BTS. Thanks for checking out our guys and sharing your musical knowledge. 💜

I really liked those last 2 years with their solo era because they showed us their own color in various contents they wanted to find their own style to keep their passion and for some of them find back their passion for music because those last 8 years have been so demanding and crazy. So i am glad they all succeeded at their own path to mature and explore their love for music. V's old soul shined so bright and hugged us with his Layover mini album showcasing his love for music, musicians, jazz, lowfi, rnb... And as you noticed for this album he didn't push his vocals he stays in his comfort zone with his warm, southing, sultry tone. V himself said that he started back to the begining in the matter of how to use his voice for this album, because within bts most of the songs are very high pitch. It suits more the upbeat songs and also most of idols are tenors. I really like how V in this album stay true to himself and his love for this style of music which is not mainstream. 💜

The album is intended to be listened in order from 1 to last song and every song has a MV, this tiki desk performance was arranged for more jazzy sound than the original tracks, I hope you can made a reaction of layover studio/tracks and MV’s and share your analysis. So happy you liked V's set!! His sound is VERY different than J-Hope's. But yeah they're both members of BTS. Here are some recs for some group songs: Black Swan, Fake Love, Spring Day, Save Me, Blood Sweat Tears, Magic Shop (live performance). These will be great for deeper lyrical content and give you an idea of their music production. But their discography is HUGE and very diverse. Some context on why each member is doing solo albums - in Korea it's mandatory for all men to serve in the military before they turn 28. So they all knew that they'd have to go in (although it was a nationwide debate on if they should be waived from service ... literally, government officials argued about this since BTS literally brings in a huge chunk of the country's GDP). So they decided to rotate in and make space for solo projects before/after they enlist. So far, each member has their own album except one - Jin, the oldest and first to enlist. His will come after he's done with his service. All seven members are currently in the military. And they plan on coming back together as one group again in 2025. Very very different from what we know as boy bands. I think they've had a very healthy stance on how to do it. Not manufactured but very self-produced. Room to explore and find their own voice in their music. And very much giving space for each other to shine. Great reaction overall! Very music analysis. Loved it!

@@CriticalReactionsthey've shown incredible resilience over the years so they'll be able to come out well! They all have such insanely different sounds and inspirations. BTS is very much self produced and not manufactured. They've worked together for over 10 years and despite their wildly different interests in music they create so much magic together. They are family and love each other dearly and support each other in their solo endeavors. I'll list some of their musical characteristics: RM = leader, main lyricist, rapper and poet. Amazing at making incredibly deep lyrics with many layers. Draws inspiration from art, culture, psychology, literature, life and nature. Suga (Agust D) = main producer, known for his raw lyrics about mental health. Tsundere (cold on the outside, warm on the inside), known for his fast rapping, great flows and gritty rough voice. Great piano player. J-hope = songwriter and producer, main dancer, dance teacher, ray of sunshine/hope of the group. Known for his melodic rap and duality in his music, I'd describe his music to be most dark sounding out of the group. Jin = songwriter, composer, oldest member, known for his silver voice, avid Coldplay fan and his voice also really fits that genre. His solo astronaut was written by Coldplay. Jungkook = youngest member (maknae), main vocal as he has the most stable live vocals, musically mostly interested in pop music, lead dancer, songwriter, composer V = songwriter and composer, baritone, known for his love for jazz and r&b music, which shows in his solo work and sometimes on bts work. Plays saxophone and trumpet. Known for on stage visuals and presence. Unique personality. Lead dancer. Jimin = known for his high voice, counter tenor, hiphop and contemporary dancer, main dancer, martial arts black belt, cute one of the group. Uses a lot of synth in his solo work. Together = BTS, a group with over 300 songs in many different genres (pop, hiphop, r&b, balad, Latin pop, edm etc). I think BTS tiny desk concert is pretty fun to watch and see their synergy, though this one is very pop focused.

You nailed it with the "jazzy r&b" description. Lovely combination of the richer harmonic content of jazz with the more vocal/song aspect of r&b, with the former providing a nice "bed" for the latter to float over. Love the chill vibe of this and the beautiful sonics. Could definitely see me kicking back with a whole concert of this in a particular mood.

Hello, I came across this by chance and am glad I did. Your reaction was insightful and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. V (Taehyung, real name) is a Jazz enthusiast; if it was on him, he probably would have gone all out hardcore jazz but in his interview, he mentioned, he went for something that his audience would accept while he produced music that he enjoys and not all kpop. His EP was released on September 8th. Most of his self-written songs have a special room for instruments. The man just loves music and his instruments.-if you get a chance, check out his older songs' stigma and singularity - I have a feeling you'll enjoy them. Christmas Tree (not a Xmas song); and Sweet Night - both are amazing too

Thanks for the great reaction. V's real name is Kim Taehyung. Born in 1995 he was 17 years old when BTS debuted. In korean they do not have a sound for the letter V... it is pronounced "Bwi". For a Baritone in KPOP, V has widest vocal range (as per real vocal analysts) of Eb2 ~ C6 (3 octaves, 5 notes and 1 semitone), which means he can also hit high octaves with ease.... He is multitalented. A Singer, Dancer, Composer, Producer, Songwriter, Actor, Entertainer, Photographer, Artist, Painter.... a jazz lover he plays saxophone, piano, violin, and learning trumpet He is known as the Idol of Idols, and is studied for his stage presence and facial expressions. Yes, his album is released. He leaned into his favorite sound which is R&B and Jazz and a touch of the 40's/50's. He deliberately chose musicians who could bring a jazz element. Each of the members showcased their personal color for their individual projects throughout 2022-2023 before entering the mandatory SK military. I hope you'll give a listen to each of them as well as some of their group songs.

This is a snippet of a conversation that you might find interesting, between V and Suga, on Suga's talkshow "Suchwita". Suga: When I listen to your solo songs or the songs you've worked on, there's this unique calm vibe of V. It seems like you like this kind of music, but BTS' music... It's not that you don't go well with BTS' music, but as for the title tracks, we usually do dance tracks, so I wonder if that caused any collisions internally for you. V: I think that me, as a shining idol, is for group performances. I think that's the best version of me that I can show when it's the seven of us. Like "Run BTS" or "ON," these powerful performances have allowed me to feel such great pleasure so many times, so when I'm doing things on my own rather than with the team, I don't think I can feel the joy as much. So I boldly let go of it. Of course, ARMY would like to see me do that, but I'll think about it slowly. Suga: It's the same for me. I've done three solo studio albums, but my musical colors and vibes keep changing. And as I go on tour, I think of new directions to take in terms of my music. Because we have so many opportunities to show it. It's not like we only do one genre of music. V: That's right. Compared to the music I've let you listen to, the feel of this album ("Layover") may be different, but as time goes by, this is the musical color I keep going to. Suga: Our team is cool in that the charms of all seven of us are so different, and we all have different things we're good at, so I thought us being together brought about really good synergy. V: The music we want to make is so different. But if those styles were all similar, I bet it would've been weird. Suga: When I listen to our members' singles or albums, everyone's colors are different. But these people became one team. V: And what I can see from our solo tracks is that, when we gather together [again], I think the charms of the songs will double. Suga: But for real, I can't imagine what will happen when we gather together after our solo endeavors. Because we're so different. I'm so excited for when all seven of us gather together [again]. I wonder what our colors will be then. V: Long time ago... I think J-hope said this, that we need to do our own individual things, so that when we gather together again, our colors will be more distinct. After hearing that -- I felt this after releasing my album last -- but I think BTS' musical colors will be even more distinct than before.

Oh how I HOPE you will dive into BTS’ discography!! Your analysis and way of taking in both music and lyrics and how they fit each other is SO good, and without spoiling too much of the fun, you’ll really find some interesting songs with BTS. They might not all be to your tastes, but I can assure you that you’ll enjoy diving into their world. They are fantastic storytellers with both music, lyrics, and visuals. And there’s always a reason for a song to exist and why it’s on that specific album. Oh yeah, they do thematic albums with overarching storylines! Usually in either trilogies or two parts. RM, SUGA, and J-HOPE are the main songwriters and producers of the group. SUGA is also known as a producer outside of BTS, where he’s even won awards for his production for other artists’ songs! RM currently has over 200 songs credited to his name as a songwriter! The other four members also participate in writing and producing both for BTS and for their own solo stuff! They’ve gradually become more and more involved in the whole song making process over their ten year career!

Please react to BTS TINY DESK CONCERT they did during lockdown with a live band. BTS all have very individual musical identities. They all have written composed and produced their own music however V decided to find these songs his choices for Layover are exquisite and I love it. I think as the last member to produce his solo album after they are in hiatus as they age into the army and the other members doing so well in the charts he felt unnecessarily under pressure to produce an zlbum distinct from the rest as the ogher BTS members have done. He certainly succeeded. All 7 solo works are very distinct. His own songs like Singularity are exceptional and show his great vocal range. He is very modest. I feel that Layover is one of those favourite chill albums you put on so that you can live with comfortably and never get bored with.

Interesting reaction, it would be great to get your perspective of the studio versions of these 3 songs as a comparison to the tiny desk versions. You make some generalised comments about ‘pop music’ etc. it would be useful to actually listen to more bts/solo music before you generalise. You can’t get to that assumption about bts from listening to one song and a tiny desk adaption of it. Again, the presumption of his vocal range from a set of music is a reach, v has the widest vocal range in the group, he can hit high notes, a good example of this high notes are showcased in the live version of his solo ‘Stigma’ and his range is also shown in his ost ‘Christmas tree’ (not a Christmas song) By the way, none of these songs were written by V, you’d have to check out ‘blue & grey’ to understand his writing as that song is about depression. There is a reason the first song being repetitive as he is trying to convey that he is stuck in a rut and can’t move forward. The EP for these songs has a storyline across all the songs which convey the stages of separation and yearning, so some songs will have a repetitive nature, it’s intentional. V loves jazz and classical music and he explained that as jazz is complex he incorporated jazz elements but in a digestible manner for today’s listeners who have basically dropped jazz as a genre. Also V played the saxophone when he was at school, hence his love for jazz and classical music. FYI, bts add backing vocals as and sometimes don’t sing parts to say that they are singing live. They have had a lot of criticism about singing live. So there will always be small parts they leave for backing vocals as a result.

Hi! Love your reaction! V is great and his personal musical style matches what I like so I like his solo work a lot. Though to be honest, I enjoy music from all of them even if some of it is not my usual preference. I think it's because both as BTS and as solo artists they put 200% effort in just to make sure that each song delivers the vision that they have. Be it a fun pop song, an anthem, a heavy rap song, or a ballad they go hard:) Since everything is made with lots of care and attention I always appreciate it even if not everything matches my taste. You should know that ARMY loves long videos about BTS and music in general, so we'll watch it regardless of how long the video gets:) About letting the band shine this is a regular BTS move. They have long learned that the best way to be successful in a group is to take the spotlight when it's your turn and support everyone else when it's theirs. They do this between themselves and when they collaborate with other artists. Let everyone shine when it's their part and the whole gets better. I think it's one of their strengths as a group that they are excited for the others to have a great part or be the focus, instead of being jealous. There are 2 more Tiny Desk concerts you should check out since it's the best of both worlds for musical analysis: it's live but without choreography and screaming crowds. 1)RM has a Tiny Desk concert. He's a rapper and a lyricist. This performance has his more introspective songs, I'm not sure exactly how to describe it but it's amazing(FYI: all the rappers have different styles, actually all BTS members do) 2) BTS: Tiny Desk (Home) Concert - it's 3 songs with all of them so you can see all of their vocals. They are just amazing, and since they're mostly seated you can follow who sings what easily :) *Disclaimer: While it's easier to watch studio lives and/or MVs and/or lyric videos while getting to know them and for musical analysis they are mind-blowing in concerts. After you get more into their music(if you like it) you should definitely react to clips from concerts

Very enjoyable reaction thank you!💜 Yes Layover was a small 5-track EP that came out in September! His group member SUGA has a talk show/ podcast where V went to, to discuss the process and Suga also expected his project to have a less pop appeal and lean more into jazz, which I believe V ultimately will likely dedicate his sound and solo artistry! But yes as you pointed out great jazz influences on these tracks with well executed pop/ rnb appeal I concur (obviously I'm very biased😂), but from what I understand a more personal and ambitious project is underway which I'm so looking forward to!! But he's taking his time! You were talking about aligning more the emotional messages between the dichotomy of lyrics and the music for the 1st track Love Me Again that's an interesting point! In my interpretation I don't necessarily think contrast means opposition, I'd suggest that it highlights the denial of the situation that his partner left and evoking more nuanced emotions like melancholy and longing over pure sadness!😊 But based off that feedback I could highly recommend you 2 beautiful, heart wrenching songs either "Snooze" or "Amygdala" by AGUST D (Suga's moniker when he goes solo), where more extreme and very personal emotions are also reflected musically. Thanks again for the genuine and detailed reaction 🙏🏾💜

I enjoyed watching your reaction, I really liked listening to your detailed feedback especially on the technical musical side especially when it came to the instrumentation… and your perspective, while I didn’t agree with some of it (as I feel you were slightly too quick to formulate some of your opinions in regards to V and BTS etc, - but of course everyone’s got to learn about a topic somewhere) some of your points were interesting… and since you invited us to share our perspective I hope you don’t mind in me doing so honestly and at some length but with the utmost respect. Firstly some feedback I would like to share would be (especially) in the second part of the reaction to not to speak over the singing… you missed quite a lot of the delicate details… you also missed the key change in For Us both vocally and instrumentally that I feel you would have appreciated if listening closely and if not in the process of talking over it. In general Tae has a lot of subtly to a lot of what he does that when observed carefully really impress but can be overlooked so easily by those not paying close enough attention. I would also say personally, Tae to me, in this performance started Love me again with nerves but once he started he got less nervous and really into his groove… and really got going and why I’m extra gutted you missed a lot of it by not watching as attentively as you did the first song… to me it felt like you had already formulated your thoughts after that first performance and that the second part of the reaction moved to be being more a passive but pleasant observation of what you had already concluded rather than an active exercise in the examination and observation of the vocals with a curious mindset as they unfolded in the subsequent performances. ( for me in slow dancing and for us his vocals really shined) Some information that might help build a clearer picture… The track love me again and for us both use a vocal sample at the beginning of them in the album which is carried over here. In the album version of slow dancing the sax solo is replaced with a flute solo. There is also an alternative piano solo version on his album. Slow dancing also has choreo involved but for this performance V chose to focus on the music. I’m also pleased you noticed that he very much sees the band and his chorus as he introduced them as integral and equal parts of the performance. Tae ( V is his stage name, his full name is Taehyung) is a music lover to his core hence why he allows the instrumentation to shine so much. He learned the sax for 4 years growing up, and has practiced the trumpet, violin and other instruments too over the years. He listens to all types of music from Bing Crosby, Chet Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, to prince, John legend, current in trend hiphop artists and classical music too. He listens to all types of music which he often shares with us. His vocal range is also very interesting as he is technically a lyrical baritone which is super super rare in kpop. He rarely sings in his own comfortable range with in group songs as the vocal-line members consist of tenors. His range is Eb2-Eb6/Eb2 - D6 (3 octaves, 5 notes 1 semitones) Supported C3-C4/C#4 When it comes to the songs they do feel much more upbeat in the live band version, slow dancing is especially much more uptempo than it is in the Album and MV version. Which I would recommend you check out to get the full feeling. Tae’s (V) goal with Slow Dancing was to convey his own personality in song form, his laidback, gentle, serene in movement nature and speech and on the slower pace of life personality. His goal with his album Layover was for it to be a calm tranquil moment of peace for ARMY and music lovers, where they could take a moment to breathe and check in with themselves. He also wanted the tracks to be listened to in order which I recommend when listening to his album as you will fully experience some of what I mentioned above as well as a cohesive and coherent narrative and musical journey. His album was included in the list of many publication of best albums of 2023 (and 3 tracks appeared in the list of the best songs of 2023, showcasing the strength of the album) (Specifically Billboard, Rolling Stone, and Timeout magazine) I really also loved and highly recommend all the MV’s for this album too, each song bar the Slow dancing piano version had an MV. Which were all filmed in a period of one and a half weeks in Spain. Especially too as he said during his interviews, the MV’s represent the images that came to his mind when he listens to the songs.. as someone who is also a visual artist, his MV’s very much add to the experience. Thanks for taking the time to react. And for being specific and detailed especially in your first part of your reaction etc. I do hope you do more Tae (V) and BTS reactions. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

36:03 You'll find as you delve more into BTS and each member that they are all dynamic individuals, and don't really fit the mold of each member needing to be "the quiet one" "the bad boy" "the funny one". They are also dynamic as in, V can be very loud and expressive, or quiet and shier depending on the situation, just like all of us. Here, he's humbly and modestly showcasing his 1st solo release despite having at astronomical success as a team for the last 10 years, and so he's coming across as those who don't know him as "the introvert of the group" which isn't necessarily the case. The sooner you can drop your "boy band" lens when you react to BTS/members the sooner you'll truly view them as the people and artists they actually are. They also break the mold in how they interact and relate to each other. They may have been brought together, but have forged very highly emotional intelligent, dynamic and family-like bonds with each other that will also help to explain some of their song lyrics and professional decisions.

Others have probably told you already but allow me to stress this again: BTS have created about 300-400 songs between their groups and solo work in the last 10+ years. No song is like the other, so you have to listen to quite a few BTS tracks to get an idea of what they are about and what they can do. BTS are album artists (their songs are connected in narratives in an album, sometimes even across albums) and live performance artists. A good option for a first reactor is their 2021 (pandemic) performance FESTA Room Live, which is basically a long medley of tracks from throughout their career. Enjoy! (If you want a live performance with audience, I suggest Magic Shop; there are several live performances with English subtitles on KZfaq. The track was co-written by Jungkook, the youngest member.)

Loved your reaction and analysis! V is a Jazz lover. With this album he wanted to make it more accessible as he thought it could be a bit complex for uninitiated listeners. For that purpose I think it land more into RnB but he definitely bring the Jazz vibe with this performance! (letting the band shine is a jazz prime thing) I came across V's music just last year when I heard V's singularity (heavily RnB sound) then his Jazz cover "Le Jazz de V". After diving into his music, that really resonate with me, I came across BTS discography. I wasn't very interested at first, pop music not being my type. But their music is way more diverse and they are surely talented people. I will recommend to you their BTS Tiny Desk concert (they performed 3 songs). That was the first time I really clicked with the group 😉

Hello, this is my 1st time in your channel and I love how you react to V's Tiny Desk performance. It was informative and gave an honest round down reaction coming from someone who is really knowledgeable and loves music in general. It was not meant to please the audience only (like most of the other reactors in yt) and i like the idea of a reactor coming in on BTS not knowing them but can easily identify how different they are and the immense talent they bring into every song and production. If you dwell deeper into each 7 members and into BTS as a group, you will see why BTS is among the best out there. Check out V's "Le Jazz De V", his take on the jazz classics. He is really into jazz music lately 😂 but his music preference is as diverse as his personality (he is soft spoken but he's not an introvert😂). He is known to give powerful performances into BTS live concerts and discography. Hope you can find time to dwell on V deeper. Great review all in all. I think I will be a regular here. RE: Boybands and Introverts - almost all of the members of BTS are introverts on the MBTI scale. It's not all that strange - they are artists. Music is their passion. They all love to perform, but after the performance they go home. RM is the biggest extrovert of the group. He's the one who recharges by going out with friends. They did an entire two episodes of their variety show "Run BTS" on the subject of taking the MBTI and then discussing the results. Also, boybands and girl groups in Korea have been popular during the entire period of time since Western boybands were first popular. They never really died out there like they have in the West. The head of HYBE (the label that BTS built from bankruptcy to being by far the biggest label in Korea now) - Bang Shi-yuk - is on record as believing that K-pop in general is declining in popularity in Korea and Asia. BTS exists outside of K-pop, and if not for the military service they all have to perform right now, they would probably still be rising in popularity just as they were in the run-up to their pause for solo projects and military service. Groups in general have a hard time sticking together because the dynamics of keeping more than one person happy when several people are involved are very difficult. BTS has so far managed to put the group first while still respecting and recognizing their individuality. As far as K-pop and visuals goes, K-pop was born during the television area, so visuals and stories are very important, as opposed to in the West where popular music was born during the radio age. It's an interesting distinction for me.

It is so funny watching new reactors try to explain BTS members as Westernised concept "boyband" members. Yes, each member of BTS has a personality but not in the traditional boyband sense. I think one of the best ways to see the personality of each member of BTS it is better to watch them live at one of their concerts or performance videos, I thoroughly recommend the Dope, Baepsae, Fire, Run live medley. They are incredible performers. V (for victory) is correct for his name but in Korean there is no letter for v so they say it as bui, the b is soft like halfway between a b and p and it sounds almost like oui in French. Also, for an incredible piece of music/production i re ommend Jimin from BTS song Lie. The live performance is, of course stunning but to concentrate on the music more i recommend an English subbed lyric video

Easiest to think in these terms. K-Pop is an industry . It covers most genres and includes soloists and groups and is a term used mostly in the west to indicate that the artist is from Korea and has music that is popular. In Korea they don't really use the term K-Pop cause they call therm Idols (or Idol groups). It is not common for Idol groups to write their own music or be so involved in their art. BTS has broken thru the barriers that come with being called "KPop Idols" and have become "Global Artists" instead. That said they are extremely proud towards their country of birth so being referred to as KPop stars does not bother them.. The reason so many ARMY get upset is that it is usually used in a derogatory manner when people just dismiss BTS as some little KPop boyband. As you will find most (not all) of KPop is innane lyrics to boppy tunes and no real substance. (Mamamoo is another "KPop" group that are incredible "Artists"... ) BTS bridges generational boundaries - for instance 5 generations of my family adore these 7 humble young men (from 90 yo grandma to my 2yo grandson) - I almost see BTS and ARMY as a grassroots social movement that is moving to the tune of "Rise of Bangtan". I've been ARMY since 2016.

I enjoyed your in-depth analysis of vs BTS has their own individual color and for V his honey like baritone vocal meshes perfect with his love for jazz and older music. seeing the music in your unique perspective is quite interesting I would personally be interested to hear your perspective on RM and his solo tiny desk concert but you really must do the whole performance the rappers of BTS RM Jhope and suga aka agust d tend to have more meet on the bone lyrically speaking although every member of the group is amazing. With BTS there's always almost always something more below the service the lyrics and visuals often take a little bit more digging into to fully grasp.

I really hope you check out yet another talented member of the group. Maybe next, SUGA (AKA Agust D)? Fingers crossed you at least check out the song Haegeum. (There are two meanings of the word -- a traditional Korean instrument, but also the lifting of a ban. You will find that the BTS rappers often use double and even triple meaning wordplay in their works) Haegeum is lyric-dense and representative of the deep-thinker SUGA has alway been. He also produced the track (as well as many others). It is song two of a trilogy, so if you like that one, maybe check out song one (Daechwita) and song three (Amygdala). :)

The seven members of BTS have different personalities and tastes. That's maybe the secret of their success, the diversity on genres and perfect mixture of such genres. Most of their songs can't be enclosed on a single genre, on a standard structure... and that's what we love! No boring music, like we hear on the radio nowadays... not all, of course, but the most it takes five seconds to know the whole song. No or boring lyrics, same rhythm, repetitives... awful! Hope you react to the solo work of the other members. 😊 I'm curious to see what you say about them. Edit: About the visual "effects", they are great, but you can react to the soundtracks or color code videos, for no visual.distraction, I mean... the visual just give us a context, for a best comprehension of the lyrics (most of the times).

Since you've done J-hope (a rapper) and V (a vocalist), why not do another rapper, either Suga or RM? (Then another vocalist after that.) Suga (aka Agust D) has a trilogy of MVs to be watched in this order: Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala. The songs themselves tackle different themes (a diss track, a social commentary, and a personal story), but the MVs are connected by their symbolism and narratives. Suga is known for his raw and honest lyrics. He also produces his own solo songs. RM is known for his poetic lyrics and clever wordplay. He has also done a Tiny Desk Concert, which is a great set with a great band, but I think I would be remiss if I don't mention "Wild Flower" (2022), an amazing song that takes a look back on his music career. He also has other MVs: Do You (2015), Joke (2015), Seoul (2018), Moonchild (2018), Forever Rain (2018), and Still Life ft. Anderson Paak (2022). Pick any one of them, or two or three, but just make sure it has English subtitles.

Several things to point out - 1) don't comment on a group you know nothing about! These are SOLO projects, a way for the members to express THEMSELVES INDIVIDUALLY. They all have their own style. - 2) You can not compare a stage performance with a studio performance with a mv!! It's like comparing apples with oranges with bananas! - 2) Yes his album came out the same month he did the Tiny Desk Korea. In fact ALL the members (except Jin) have released their albums before enlistment (Dec '23). - 3) V *Layover* & JK *Golden*, did not write the lyrics for their albums, but they Chose the songs themselves & had a say in every aspect of their albums. - 4) Personally I think that a good way for you to understand what the group BTS is like, would be to watch BTS ROOM LIVE as this is a medley of their songs. - 5) BTS is not k-pop - BTS is BTS! - 6) ARMY has no problems with reactors pausing, rewinding, re-watching, reading, talking as long as the person is respectful and relevant. So if a 2 min video turns into a 1 hr reaction, then ARMY is all for it (just don't skip or edit). 😀💜💜💜

Pausing a song ruins momentum, atmosphere, tension, chord progression, and pacing; it's not something I'm going to do on my channel as it irrevocably changes the experience of a song. I promise you, I'm still paying attention to the music when I'm talking and have frequently interrupted whatever I was talking about at the time to address something that just happened in the music.

@CriticalReactions I enjoyed what analysis I was able to watch but was unable to finish the video because of the talking over the music. I can't concentrate on what's being said while the music is playing (personal neurodiversity issues) and it's oddly stressful for me to try (TMI: I even have to do this IRL when I'm listening to music I love and someone has to talk to me about something). But, your house, your rules, which is absolutely fair. While I clicked because you were reacting to one of the boys, I'll have to stick to the producer/composer reactors who do pause the music to give their reactions/analyses. I wish you good luck on your BTS journey, should you choose to take it. ARMY will be happy to guide you and answer your questions as long as you stay as openminded as you appeared to be here.

Yes that really annoyed me, I was bought up not to talk over someone but to wait until there was a pause. I find it extremely rude to talk over another person as it means you don't have any respect for them. So when someone does it when making a reaction it pisses me off no end.

@@CriticalReactions Then you need to learn that what discussing something you need to do one thing at a time as that way you don't miss something and we get to be able to concentrate. That's the art of any presentation you don't do two things at once. Concentrate on one thing at a time. Any way I hope that helps. Never ever ever talk over something it just doesn't work and it's also rude as feck.

@@eileencritchley4630 Out of curiosity, is your preferred version then to pause the song when I have something to add? Because with as much as I want to bring up about the music I'll be pausing it every few seconds and that kind of butchering of the first time experience feels a lot more disrespectful than talking over 2-3 parts of it.

@nerd1858

Ok first please stop stereotyping them. They don't fit into those preconceived categories. The western world has been trying come in with new boy bands. The problem is they try to come in with the standard western boy band manufactured groups. Which, despite your your preconceived ideas,BTS is not. So the western bands cannot compete. The 7 members of BTS are well known for writing, composing and producing their own music. They sing about mental health, self love, society, politics and alot more. And their live performances are amazing. They're constantly pushing the boundaries of what is expected from music and performance.
