My dad was employed by the Railways in 1900s and used to do a lot of work in the bush. We were little kids and as a family, the train would push our caboose into a siding where we would live for several weeks. This was in Southern Africa and my brother and I were little bush babies. When it was time to go home, a train would come and pick us up and take us back to the station. I have such fond memories of those days!

Great, love it. I understand the cost is high due to labor and materials. Puts it into perspective. I remember about 15 years ago a friend of us bought a whole rail carriage in New Zealand and had it placed onto a 2 acre property near Orewa for under $6000 , I thought that was a lot at the time, ha,ha.. There is a great (original) train carriage motel in Ohakune NZ, stayed there, the kids loved it! Good luck to the Digs motel, wonderful idea!

Welcome Bryce to my home area ! I'm just across the river in Vancouver. This is amazing ! I didn't know Tiny Digs had built a new tiny house. I think this one has to be my favorite. Don't forget there is a tiny home community in Welches Oregon in Mt. Hood area. If you haven't been there I think you will love it ! That's where I use to live...lol Speaking of cabooses, there is a real old red one, on the road to my house, that is being made into a tiny house. It's going to be great I bet. I've always wanted to have a caboose as a guest house. Take care while you are here and enjoy yourself. My best to you and thank you for another wonderful episode of your program.....I love it !

Dr. Sir Francis R I do have the mesh, but I'm not sure if I can afford to have it removed, here in the States, it's not just a "I hurt, fix me", it's a fill out a ton of paperwork and pay out the equivalency of a decent used car... I want to have it removed, they had to stitch in about the diameter of a softball up for me using the mesh...

Absolutely wonderful! This lady has taken Tiny Homes to a new level! I loved seeing all the unique features in the caboose, the thoughts and ideas it took to create a space like this is truly marvelous. It will be so great when Govts around the world see the benefits in building smaller, economical and environment friendly homes for the people. Not everyone can afford a huge 3 bedroom house with all the extras, some people like myself would rather a small home, like a tiny house to feel comfortable and to allow the magic to flow.

I think this is my favourite tiny house so far. Of course there are things that I would do differently, but the caboose theme really appeals to me. Maybe my grandfathers obsession with trains has rubbed off on me.

Some 30 years ago, US railroads began phasing out cabooses in favor of "EOT" (End Of Train) electronic monitoring devices. The railroads wanted to get rid of them and you could buy a real caboose for just a few thousand dollars. Many people did, and converted them into cabins, cottages, motels, and "Tiny Houses" (long before the term was invented). Unfortunately, moving a large, 30 ton rail vehicle like a caboose requires the use of a huge crane and low-boy semi trailer. So relocating a caboose can cost several times more than what you paid to buy it. Surviving cabooses have since become rare, as reflected in their much higher current asking prices. If you want one, a reproduction caboose is the way to go!

Tiffany Lyn ,Yes, way too much for me. But I'd love to have the experience as I would LOVE to build my own tiny home. My fiance is a general contractor and certified in plumbing and electric, and my dad taught me all kinds of building when I was growing up, so I'd love to build it ourselves! I have the house and layout all picked out! The only thing holding me back is money! As always!

Tiffany Lyn way too expensive. She should charge 59 a night or something. Then it would be full all the time. During the summer make it 89 or something and during the lomg weekends. 169 is just greedy.

Tiffany Lyn when you can rent a regular 40 foot park model at a park that has all sorts of things to do i know this o e it has golf, swimming, water park, ect. For 600 a whole week and you get a golf cart included to travel around in. Now thats decent! 840 a week is crazy for this.....maybe because its a special raeroad design :)

Scott Fossil the reason they are often built in trailers is to get around the laws, is tiny house hotel probably is 'legally' a trailer park, but the idea is one day they can legally be built on the ground with no trailer chassis underneath

I believe it was a city requirement. For whatever reason they had to keep it all black top. It was a parking lot and they had to keep it zoned as such. Something like that.

Yes, I agree. There's no privacy at all either. Even if they have to have the hard standing, some careful planting in containers could provide a little privacy. I love the idea of trying out different styles or being able to view them. At the moment, TBH it looks a bit like a nicely done sales forecourt. The tiny houses are beautifully done and the basic idea is fantastic.
