Living Big In A Tiny House

6 жыл бұрын

Earthship design is all about experimentation and innoation and that's exactly the case with this incredible tiny house on wheels. Firefighter Steve was inspired to build a tiny house incorporating Earthship principles after completing a course on Earthship Biotecture design and building in New Mexico.

Now, Steve has moved out of his urban home which he now rents our and lives in his tiny house which is parked in his back yard. As a firefighter Steve also shares some tips about keeping tiny houses fire safe.
The home is currently grid connected however the entire tiny home has been designed to be off-the-grid capable.

Great interview. Like the guy and his honesty about what works and what works better. This is the first tiny house where from both the front and interior, I kept wondering what was in the other rooms behind it. So with that, my head was tricked into seeing it as a regular house. Apparently that quality has been elusive and I appreciate finally seeing it here.

Amazing tiny home for one person and it don't have a loft that's great! Fire has always been a concern of mine in tiny homes. I don't think the builders of all these tiny homes plane for safety as much as they should in these homes! I see these tiny home's with really high up small windows and of course everything in the home is put away nice and tidy like a fire extinguisher not easy to get if you need it in a hurry!

I think this is an EXCELLENT use of available space. That bed is well executed, and much like an onion for it's mutliple uses. It's a bed, but it also houses the coffee table, which supports the end of it, but it's also drawer storage, and lift-up bed storage..... 10/10 for that. Also, thanks for pointing out the incinerating toilet. It strikes me as much more "socially acceptable". "Oh yeah, it incinerates everything at 1,400 degrees." Much less squick factor for finicky suburbanites who don't like the idea of handling their own waste, however obliquely.

If you understand fire science fuel+heat+oxygen in the correct ratio - the potential of combustion is near zero. Sparks cant penetrate steel, and reflective sheet steel surface would reduce the heat factor to nothing. The books would hold heat as thermal mass like a log cabin.

Christy B yeah the brick would be cold!! Brrrrr ❄️☃️!! Maybe an alternative would be recycled tire flooring; I know they used recycle tires at my local park and I've seen some side walks made from tires as well. They may hold heat better?

Great tiny house! Just a tip about thermal mass. They are actually most useful in warm weather. They absorb the heat during the day and release them later. So when they release the heat at night, you can just air the house and get rid of it much easier than during the day when it is hot outside :) so unless you get a lot of sun which this floor is absorbing, it will not benefit you in the winter.

ok, when you said fireman I was expecting a pole he uses to slide from his lot bed down - lol - the imagination one gets from the use of simple words - this is a great build and I love the way the bed pulls out from under the floor - better in a lot of ways and no need to climb up high, especially good if you aren't so young anymore - thanks for sharing

Let's be honest, the best thing about this house is clearly the raised kitchen and bed ... this house is 'tiny/tiny' to a point where it's close to a van ... and once you go so small the 'fold out' bed becomes an easy choice, where many have already mentioned the hassle of making it every time. This solution solves that so simply while providing the same utility as a couch. Another thing i noticed about tiny house design is that 'visually blocking spaces' creates the perception of more space. Be it a higher platform or a sideways kitchen block. So having this higher kitchen actually creates the perception of more space, which really works well with the bed solution (and obviously hiding some stuff there is also great) ... One thing i do wonder though, is how much colder that floor made it in summer, but i guess he will find out when he takes it out...

I see and respect his inspiration from earthship building and the final outcome of his project is great ... and, to me there's not much Earth Ship in this house... thank you, Bryce and Rasa for your work :)

More people should think about fire safety when building tiny houses. Especially if you're going into rural areas with trees.

TO ANY OF YOU WATCHING THIS: Bryce and Crew are driving to Texas for the Tiny House Jamboree, and he might not get to reply to comments as normal, but I'm sure he will be his normal chatty self once he's no longer driving and towing a tiny house he and Tiny House Chattanooga built in about ten days!

Chattanooga! I am only 20 minutes from Chattanooga! I would love to know if there is a tiny house group close by to me! I just moved here and have been wondering about the building codes as well! I would just adore meeting some locals with the same frame of mind! Thank you so much for any information you can share and thank you for giving me hope that I won't be alone here! lol

Eileen Bunetta tinyhousechattanooga.com is the best I can give you right now, this past weekend Bryce was in Texas for a Tiny House Festival called the Jamboree... He may be heading back to Chattanooga to finish up a second tiny house he was building for when he's Stateside doing more tours next year...

This is actually my favorite of the Tiny Houses I have seen online ♥ I am a bit of a claustrophobic, so when feeling well seeing the inside of this home and loving the design in general, is making it my favorite for great reasons! Though I would change the design of the bathroom completely. = D

OMG FIRST!! Now to watch the video :) EDIT: This guy has a tonne of great ideas for space saving. The first thing I thought when he said the tiny house was 10x17 is that it would be too small to be comfortable. But it looks really well laid out, the kitchen looks lovely and warm. And I totally get the incinerator loo instead of the composting ones! Great find as always, Bryce.
