I think the candles in Forte’s chamber are extremely symbolic. Earlier in the film, they were taller. Now, they are reaching their last bit of wick. It signifies that Maestro Forte was running out of time. His manic depression over not being recognized and appreciated led him to choose mass murder/suicide over allowing Belle to break the curse and free him. When the beast was in solitude, he used Forte’s somber songs to soothe himself. So, Forte found a sense of purpose and importance. When Belle came along and was taken captive by the beast, Forte saw her as a rival. In the end, Belle won over the beast’s heart and robbed Forte of his one chance at being recognized. Forte, realizing he would never again have the same level of importance to the beast as Belle now did, he flew into a manic rage and decided to bring down the castle on top of Beast and Belle, not caring who else died. Since he was fused to the castle itself, via the ductwork and other parts that made up his massive form, he used his booming loud music to shake the very foundation of the castle, destroying many rooms and causing the dungeon to split in two. When Fife tried to stop him, Forte notes that the spell will never be broken if the lovers are both dead. This was the suicide part I was referring to. Without the two titular characters, the servants would all eventually turn into ordinary household objects devoid of any conscience or life and Forte would suffer the same fate, forever frozen as a dusty pipe organ. In that sense, he ridicules Fife for not joining him in death and says his triumph will be a solo act. This means that he alone will allow the curse to run its course, dooming the servants to a slow death. As he continues his manic rant, he begins to tear apart his own chamber. What he was oblivious of was the fact that the beast had managed to escape the crumbling dungeon and got to Forte’s chamber, breaking down the doors and angrily telling Forte he’s had enough. Forte reacts mockingly by stating that the beast was not singing. Afterwords, Forte sends a torrent of ghostly notes slamming into the beast like a fist, knocking the beast back about 5 feet. Meanwhile, Belle escapes the dungeon by using a broken roof rafter to cross the gap between the two sides of the dungeon. As she makes it to Forte’s chamber, Forte has unleashed a flood of ghostly musical projectiles, effectively trapping them with him. Forte then remarks “Is this happy enough for you, Master?! I know I’m downright giddy!” In those final words, we can finally get the scope of Forte’s depression. He only composed his music for the sake of entertaining the beast and was never appreciated for all the hard work he did when making his music and this, over time made him all the more gloomier and darker as he went on composing his music but no one seemed to care. When he acted out like this, he was simply unleashing the bent up resentment over not being appreciated for his music. Ultimately though, in his mania, he fails to see the beast approaching the one thing that gave him his sense of belonging, the very keyboard on which he composed his somber melodies. By the time he realizes this, the beast rips the keyboard from him, silencing the music forever. Now, weak and broken, Forte, in a manic daze, pulls himself free of his mounting, causing his pipes to crash to the floor, killing himself in the process. Beast, realizing all too late what Forte had been trying to tell him, mutters his name in solemn silence as the pages that once held Forte’s music flutter to the ground on top of his mangled corpse. Now, why the candles? Candles are like a timer, when they run out of wick, the flame is extinguished. The same with Forte. He was once a great court composer, but he was never recognized for his music, nor was he ever shown any appreciation. This explains his downcast expression in the flashback to when the beast became what he was. During the time when the beast was in solitude, Forte found himself appreciated by the beast for helping him forget his painful past by playing his somber music. When Belle came along, Forte found his newfound importance threatened and tried to either kill her or thwart their romance in any way possible. In the end, it was all in vain. He knew his time was up and he went out spectacularly, like how a flame dances and flickers on the last piece of a candle wick before it goes out for good. I’ll leave this interesting theory behind for you all to take to heart. Hope this sheds some new light on this fantastic, and spooky, villain.

Well on the bright side Forte got what he wanted. He didn't want to be human again
@Oxmanjeff7 жыл бұрын
Forte is more of a tragic villain. All he wanted in life was to be recognized for his talents in playing music. When the spell was cast, he got what he wanted. The Beast recognized him for his music in that it soothed his troubled soul. When Belle came along, he viewed her as a rival and wanted her out of the way. His attempts at keeping his position as the Beast's confidante began with him using Fife to spy on Beast and Belle's activities and to try to sabotage their relationship. The last attempt involved Fife stranding Belle in the Black Forest, which nearly cost Belle her life after he accidentally spooked Phillip and caused the ice on a frozen lake to break apart. Horrified with what Forte had in mind for Belle, and having met her himself and finding out how nice she was to him, Fife broke down and refused to work for Forte anymore. When Forte tried to convince the Beast to smash the enchanted rose, the rose petals fell onto a gift Belle had made for the Beast before he locked her in the dungeon after her ill fated trip into the Black Forest. When he saw the gift, the Beast was reminded of how kind Belle was and decided to open it. Inside was a book Belle had written about their past together and how, through a simple act of kindness, he was given new hope for his future. Touched by Belle's story, he went to the dungeon and asked her if she could forgive him for the way he acted and she did so, much to Forte' disgust. Realizing his plans were all in vain, he snapped and went insane. His final attempt at preventing the reversal of the spell involved him destroying the very castle around him. Inevitably, his rampage drew the attention of both Fife and the Beast, both of whom realizing just how insane Forte was. After both were beaten back, and with the other servants' help, they were able to fend off his attacks. When all hope seemed lost, Fife pointed out Forte's sole weakness, the very keyboard he used to compose his haunting tunes, to the Beast. After tearing away the keyboard, Forte's music was forever silenced. Consumed by rage and insanity, Forte tried one last time to stop the reversal of the spell. Pulling hard on his mooring chains, he tore himself free of his mounting and attempted to crush both The Beast and Belle with his own mass. This only resulted in him crashing to the floor in a mangled heap of twisted and broken pipes. As the dust cleared from Forte's suicide, the Beast only looked on and muttered his name in what sounded like regret. After all, Forte had helped him to forget his troubled past with his music. In the end, Forte was more of a tragic villain in that he got what he wanted in enchantment and didn't want to lose it in disenchantment. I know some of you out there will probably bash me for this theory, but I think it makes some sense when you look at it in a broader perspective.

This is a very well thought theory on Forte's insanity but I agree. Forte wanted so bad to be noticed that he was willing to give up his humanity just to get it, not caring that Beast and all the others wanted to be human again so he was vastly outnumbered. I don't know if he's just as bad or worse than Gaston, both are pretty selfish characters, both willing to hurt others to get what they want.

People forgets it, but almost the entire movie happens in winter, and im PRETTY SURE the dance happens in Christmas eve/New Year, wich would connect directly to this movie, since it happens right before Bella leaves to go back to her father. The only problem with this theory, is that the Beast's birthday is in November 18th, so Bella woulded had to be gone for almost an entire year before Gaston and the mob assault the castle, since the last scene happens at the exact moment Beast reach 21.

@christophersanchez7731 Жыл бұрын
Yes he actually illustrates artists like Mozart, and outside music Van Gough, geniuses that were ahead of their time, often not appreciated or rejected while they’re Alive, it wasn’t until after they died their work is appreciated Forte’s music doesn’t seem all that bad, good actually, but to those of his time, it’s too dark and gloomy As a human when Forte plays, he was in rapture, happy to hear his masterpiece tribute to the Prince being heard, until it was rejected for bright too gloomy After the enchantment, everything changed Beast was depressed, and Forte’s music soothes his wounded soul At last Forte had a patron that needed him and his work, and his current form allows himself to be a living instrument to make His masterpieces happen It was a dream come true for him, and over time, Forte grew to have a toxic need for the Beast’s approval The longer he’s depressed, the more Forte was needed When Belle came, she threatened ti make things as it was used to be, where Forte is alone and his work unwanted again An artist’s lifeblood is in their patrons, to have people who love the work, or there’d little point in art And it’s all why Forte is a tragic character A genius ahead of his time, not appreciated by anyone while human, it was only being enchanted he was needed and it drove him to madness trying to protect that

In my opinion…Forte and Beast were really the only decent parts of this movie. Beast in learning to deal with his feelings of depression, and using generosity and sincerity to do so, and Forte…oh, Forte. This guy was a great example of early CGI mastery, especially for his metallic design. Tim Curry doesn't just make him evil, he's haunted with obsession. And he becomes so worn out and distraught at his perpetual failure that he's willing to destroy everyone around him so he won't feel abandoned. Both these guys had great voice work. But…yeah. Rest is pandering, padding, and other scenes that don't really add that much to the B&tB universe. :/

I rather liked this guy as a villain. He's unusual in the sense that he wasn't just someone that went evil for the sake of it. He just happened to benefit greatly from a spell everyone wanted to break; even if he was the only one to benefit from it. He's one of those villains you can sympathise with in a way if he was not as appreciated as much in his past life and anyway for a time even The Beast found him more useful as a pipe organ. More a tragic villain than someone who was truly evil.

I like how the Beast is holding Belle right when Forte starts attempting to destroy the castle and how he shows concern for her right when they are separated. It really goes to show how much the Beast cared for her and how strong his love is for Belle. It really motivated him to stop Forte in order to protect Belle, his servants, and his castle.

When you think about it Gaston and Forte were both selfish villains but for different reasons. Gaston was more of a cocky villain who was so extremely self centered and off his rocker and Belle wanted nothing to with him so he went crazy trying to kill the beast just prove he was this guy who was pretty much the exact opposite of who he thinks he is. Forte just wanted the Beast to be his friend and wanted to be appreciated for his talents and just enjoy being in his organ form while playing for him and was afraid Belle was getting in the way. That's all he wanted. So, I think Forte is the better villain just because of how developed he is when compared to Gaston.

2:32 And this is why we love Belle. Up until her introduction, most female Disney characters would have stood around with the comic relief, gasping every time something happens, while the hero saves the day. What does Belle do? She finds a way to help. This gets a callback in Kingdom Hearts II where she freaking ELBOWS the guy holding her hostage before making off with the rose. Sora even remarks how awesome it is after the battle! The year after Belle, we got Jasmine, who showed a lot more independence with the wit and action to back it up. Then Nala, who beats the hero in every single tussle they get into, rallies the lionesses to defeat the hyenas and rescue Simba, and whose fighting tricks ultimately help Simba win the fight against Scar. Then Esmeralda, Meg, freaking Mulan, the list goes on. But I think Belle could be seen as the exact moment that the women of Disney showed that a great woman's place isn't just behind a great man: just as often, they're far more suited to stand at his side.

Imagine how funny it would be if Beast stormed into the music room, and yells, "Forte!" Then the organ face stops and looks at him, (exactly like the scene shown here), but instead of Beast yelling, "Enough," he shouts to Forte, "Eat a snickers!" "Why on earth would I do a thing like that?" Forte may question arrogantly. "Cause, you turn into a real prick, when you get hungry!" Beast yells back as he throws a snickers into Forte's mouth. Next scene is the organ all quiet and smiling ear to ear.

+Hunghover There's a lot of unnecessary things added in Kingdom hearts like fighting fighting ursula 4 times (twice in KH1 and once in KH2&KHDDD) and others things like scars ghost in KH2. But i personally think involving forte in KH3 would be really good as during that time christmas was involved and tackling christmas in Halloween town (with jack skelenton) in KH2 was fun and since Halloween town isnt returning in KH3. Beauty and the Beast was be a good replacement.

now that I come to think...Forte shouldn't have fallen when he ripped the chain holding him to the wall, because thats not the only thing holding an organ, its a whole network of tubes and pipes running inside the walls to the pump, which, considering forte's size, is probably a boiler down below. Forte is actualy fused with that whole room than just a separated object.

@DXAB919 жыл бұрын

Disney is usually great for giving their stories a moral or two, and I think it would have been more meaningful, if they had no killed the villain off. Instead, I think our hero's, (say Beast on one side of Forte attempting to keep the organ from pulling away from the wall, the other characters stood on the other side doing the same thing, while Belle stood in front of Forte, face to face telling him that she understands its OK that not everyone is happy at Christmas time. (I don't think she was aware at that point in time what Forte's motive was to prevent her and Beast from falling in love.) But, if Beast then assured Forte that no matter what happened between he and Belle, that he would always think of Forte as his friend I think Forte might have calmed down and all would have been well. Then, at the end of the movie when Prince Adam calls for music, the scene is Forte, standing by the now ordinary organ. To keep in character, when Prince Adam commands for "happy music," Forte roles his eyes then looks to Fife, and says something like, "Oh Fife, you take this one, it has your name all over it." Well, that's how I think it should have ended.
@Esgles10 жыл бұрын
What a good suggestion. Think Forte would still be unhappy though because since Adam's happy,my guess is he'll be requesting for happy music all the time,making Forte "no longer needed".
@adnilnosnhoj10 жыл бұрын
idiotlimrocks2 I agree. If Forte had returned to human alive and well, I see him fitting into the castle's quasi family setting as the crotchety snob uncle, and resident bubble burster. Forte's music can be very beautiful at times, and now that Prince Adam had learned not to be so rude or blunt, I think Forte's music would have evolved and mellowed, making it even more lovely and spell bounding, though perhaps never "happy." In happy occasions, he would have to learn to step aside and let someone else, like Fife do the honors, and I would only hope for Forte's sake he could learn to do that.
@Esgles10 жыл бұрын
Well said. I'm actually gonna be doing a Forte Happy Meal review soon. One of my favorite baddies.
