Has to be the coolest most informed group on the tube. Rory is beyond belief and Clint is just a monster player. And of course our host is right in the thick of it.

Did you know that I gave Clint his 1st paying gig? It was 1977 at Neal Hosper's French Quarter on Camp Bowie St. in Ft.Worth. Johnny Case was on piano, Glen Moon on bass, John Westfall on trombone, Chuck Skidmore on drums, Leon Voyles on clarinet & sax & myself on trumpet. Clint was only 15 yrs old but was already playing like the best of the pros. Mr. Hospers made me fire him because he was too young to be in the club & he was risking losing his liquor license if the TABC ever found out. I hated doing it because he was such a great guitarist & such a pleasure to perform with.

Pardon me while I pick up my jaw from the tops of my shoes. Such great talents. Don't even try to tell me how great these high, screaming, heavy metal guitarists are. They couldn't polish these guys guitars. These guys are playing something you don't hear much in mainstream guitar music today.....it's called music.

while I agree on the guitar sentiment, it doesn't take talent like these guys have to make good "music", as you say. if good music was only made by guys like this we'd be in big trouble.

Back when Clint was playing with Merle Haggard and Freddy Powers, they did a show on Austin City Limits I think, and my dad recorded it or I recorded it , my memory kinda fails me. I became a fan of Clint's and watched that VHS tape many times. The tape fell by the wayside but now I'm able to see it and other more recent things that Clint has done.

Please advise what Clint means by harmonized major scale?
@GuitarGathering
@GuitarGathering 4 жыл бұрын
If you take a major scale and stack each note of the scale with thirds on top it builds a certain combination of major and minor chords. And this pattern of chords is consistent in every key. Written in roman numerals: I (major) - iim (minor) - iiim (minor) - IV (major) - V (major) - vim (minor) - vii (diminished). So in any key the chords built off of the I-IV and V are major chords. That's why in the key of C we have F major chords, not F minor chords. - Steve

Guitar Gathering Thank you. Can you refer me to a picture of the 5 scale patterns Clint mention’s in the video as taught to him by Howard Roberts? There seems to be many different scale patterns. I am interested in the ones Howard Roberts taught him.
@GuitarGathering
@GuitarGathering 4 жыл бұрын
@@dry509 Where does he reference that?
@dry509
@dry509 4 жыл бұрын
Oh earlier in the video he says something about Howard Roberts coming over his house and showing him how to finger the major scale in different positions. Also had another question: When Clint says for instance hi is playing in the key of D or D7, then he strums that chord, then proceeds to pick play notes up and down the fret board are the notes he is playing from the D scale just in different locations on the fret board? Or he will say he is playing a line over the G7 chord. What does that terminology mean? Thanks in advance. P.S. It would help if you could relate it to the piano. How would I play a line over a G7 chord on the piano? Is it completely different?

I know what Clint looks like, so he is the one in the middle, and I assume from the title and description that the guys on the right and left are each one half of the split personality of Rory Hoffman?
