Your lesson is taught and well beyond the hate and vigor of today’s works. If we are to be led then it’ll have to because the path is pure and all can respect it. The question is will they live by it? America did once, but our light has since died out, darkened by the monotony of life and the rigors of struggle for complacency just to survive. It’s not what man does to live, it’s why he does what he does to survive. The difference between Thriving and surviving is hope, and the dreams all men are created to work and live for. Anything less, is fated to doom.

America came to the party too late for a real empire, still a young country and you guys used to be laughed at by real countries for a long time. So it was near enough impossible for the US to create an empire right up until it was completely unacceptable.

Had a hard time following this one, the premise is just too much of a stretch. If you’re ready to fight a war for decades and be pushed to near extinction, why not just have waited a decade and prepared more?

I see the framework to explain it actually in the whole "they'll be bankrupt soon enough" at the start. I could easily see a system where they'd have been screwed by the legal and economic systems (even if they played on isolationism) in any longer of a time-frame.

In answer to the original question, it seems the author believes that humanity can and will internalize the teaching of Detrich Bonnhoffer: "Silence in the face of evil is itself evil. God will not hold us blameless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act." Humanity, having internalized that simple moral principle, could not have remained silent on the subject of the Council's enslavement of "lesser" species without incurring an unacceptable level of culpability for the injustice they had witnessed. So they acted with what they had to end what they could no longer meekly tolerate.

@@magicturtleult1481except that it’s hard to see how that would happen given that humanity is depicted as more technologically advanced and innovative, versus the council’s stagnation.

Nah, not for me this one, a stupid war waged by idiots for naieve ideals is not how I see humanity going out. They could have just waited until their technological edge was so severe that they could have just won easily. Bit of a martry complex in this one, not enough realism on human nature.

How so? You mean people there have relatives bombed and cut off from food and water as a result of certain events and they are supposed to say nothing? These aren't the days when only WASPs entered Ivies. What is the plan the people responsible have for the civilians given many of their homes have been destroyed? Surely a population that is nearly half children too young to have voted the current government has civilians, or is it just more convenient to say there are no civilians?

No it is known that humans have done messed up things, in part 1&2 the diplomat says that just 300 years ago humanity still had slavery. And that they had found how abhorrent it was. That no sentence race should have to endure it and why we brought ourselves to the edge of extinction to end the practice.

Assuming everyone is evil is really dangerous. Nothing is more dangerous than someone who truly means it when they honestly hate slavery. Think John Brown or Harriet Tubman. If you think the latter just helped hide slaves, you don't know how dangerous she was to slavers.
