+Captain Caveman Two I wholeheartedly respect your opinion. But you didn't like Bowie? If you haven't heard any of his early albums I'd strongly recommend giving them a listen sometime, especially the album tracks. A lot of his singles were mediocre, but his albums as whole pieces are some of my favourite stuff.
@emmakeller99668 жыл бұрын
+chris mcaulay I really like Beck but l don't think he shares Bowie's rank in any concept nor decade. Bowie is one of the 5 most influential and respected musicians of the past Century! He invented and reinvented a bunch of things, even Beck is in the rows of his fans. Beck is so intuitive and witty, but l personally don't think he is the Bowie of our era, there is just one Bowie for all the eras :)

Still one of the very best music promo films ever. Dry as a bone funny & cool af. The bit where they do Kraftwerk & Hair-Metal. Genius.
@vincentbyrne2394 Жыл бұрын
Well.... OK but arguably it's all a bit clever-clever, dressing up like the '60s and lampooning the hapless '80s hair-metallers. Everybody from the alternative music sphere in the '90s was doing '60s retro (either though their music or their styling); DeeeLite, Pulp, The Cardigans, St. Etienne, Oasis etc... so what Beck was doing here was not particularly original.....Heavy Metal or Hair Metal was/is a valid musical subculture with a huge and devoted following, so it's a bit sneery and snooty of Beck to be using them here with humorous/derisive intent in his "cool and ironic" video.
@@jimdartouzos2127 Yes ok Sassy ...... but the general point is that alternative music was sometimes a bit too pleased with itself in the '90s

I haven't heard or thought about this song in years. Suddenly, this morning the opening choir notes started whistling from my mouth like a Casio keyboard. It took me about 5 minutes to figure out who it was that had invaded my head. I can't explain it, just weird. So I took it as a sign and put it into one of my playlists.

Such a killah Beck tune. Love the sax-ah-ma-phone in this track. One of my favorite Beck tunes.

Beck is a genius and shows how you can like a song and message, even the beginnings of a video....but when you SEE it all, you're creeped-out, I love it! Loved him since High School (then again w/Bender)

I love the ending: the crystal ball with ambiguous images over a smooth saxophone.

Beck is my absolute favorite musical artist. He does, quite literally, EVERYTHING. Every sound, every genre. And he does it all amazingly well. This could easily be a mid 60s George Harrison Beatles song. Then his next song is industrial hip hop. Then Johnny Cash. Then soulful late stage Van Morrison. Just everything. And it is all unmistakably Beck, he has somehow mastered just about every genre of popular music of the past 60 years while still injecting his own style.

This song and music video is so ahead of its time, doesn't even seem 20 years old.. I remember watching the VMAs in 97 and this music video and album was nominated for so many awards. I was a kid at the time but this had such a huge impact on me.

I love this video! Don’t know why but every time I see it, I always look for the bass player’s “double take” move at 2:31. Cracks me up.

Half satire and half homage. Love it, especially the "Magical Mystery Tour" bits that made me LOL. I also have to say he's the only one who makes throwing a suit jacket over your shoulder while dancing pretty cool.
