How to become a firefighter in NSW in particular with Fire and Rescue NSW this year 2023
In this video I’m going to walk you through all the steps of the firefighter recruitment process and more importantly what you can do to actually pass each stage and get selected.
First step is the ONLINE APPLICATION and ASSESSMENTS. NSW currently uses an online portal for your personal information, minimum requirements and 2 pre recorded video interview questions.
To get through this section of recruitment we make sure you understand exactly what you need to convey when answering the questions as well as what you must avoid.
The key to standing out here is understanding what to include in your application as well as how to answer the 2 questions so you don’t get cut in the very first stage.
Then there is the Online Assessments, the Aptitude Test or Cognitive Ability Assessment.
The issue most people will have with the test this year is that it is changing. Revelian, which has been the test provider for NSW for a very long time has now been acquired by Criteria the new testing company.
This means those that have applied before will need to get up to speed with what’s different within the new testing structure and ensure you are in a position to pass the test.
It will be different to some degree and the new provider is keeping the style of testing to they use this year very quiet at this stage.
The classic aptitude test from Revelian usually has 51 questions for 20 minutes. It has 3 reasoning types including a mixture of verbal, numerical, and abstract questions.
The specific issue with NSW firefighter aptitude test is the score you need to get must fit into a pretty narrow band as well as match up with your profiling tests. So now…. what to do to pass.
