Kevin with Ducati Spacers, gloves will help with the clean up afterwards, but you know this. Thanks for sharing the video. I do have a 5th gen (1998) Honda VFR800FI Interceptor and, as you know, it has this ELF Pro-arm swingarm. I love my bike for several reasons, but the swingarm is a one of the reasons. The gear-driven cams is another. the slightly upright seating position is another, the fact it is a sport-tour or tour-sport bike is another. The PO (previous Owner) had installed a K&N air filter, but I forgot and I bought a paper filter and have held onto the K&N after installing the other one. No need to toss it out. It had Heli-bars already when I bought it 8,000 miles ago (2015). What is not to like about this generation?

CHECK THE BOLTS ON THE LOWER CHAIN GUIDE!! The rear one on mine had almost wound itself out and unbeknown to me the chain has touched the swingarm!! Clearly the threadlock Ducati use is not very good!! Luckily the marks are minor and I will touch them up fine. The chain was fine at 2200 miles. If you look after the chain on these bikes they require minimum adjustment. Thanks for the video 👍

i have found using a shop rag running around the chain prior to applying any cleaner removes about 70% of the grime and makes the whole process a lot cleaner and less timely. I have to agree that no Michelle=less fun.

Good tip. Timely means quick or efficient. So in your statement you’re actually saying the process takes longer if you use the shop rag first. Should’ve read ‘more timely’ or ‘less time consuming’.

If your going to adjust your chain you should check the chain slack in different parts of your chain because chains dostretch over time. If you dont you could be adjusting your chain on a loose or tight part of your chain. Some good information but forgot to mention that.

When it's on the stand the weight is on the wheel. If you had a pit lift that lifted the bike from the center , then you would have to take it down to check the chains tension.

On a 939 Hypermotard (single side swing arm, 2 pinch bolts,...same basic design) it matters. What Eileen says sounds very logical but I’ve found empirically that there is 4 to 5 mm of difference between being on the Pit bull (as shown here) and being on the side stand. I’m not smart enough to articulate why that is, but it is. Might be why the decal says “...appoggiare il veicolo sulla stampella laterale..”
@mcgman8058

@@failranch9542 its because when on the side stand some of the load is being distributed to the side. on the rear lift all the sprung weight is bearing down evenly (minus the front rake from lifting the stand).

There needs to be a Video about the fuel tank pressure problem. My friend filled up his V4 the other day when his fuel light came on & fuel shot at least ten feet up in the air. I was parked in front of him & it was even all over my bike. If you remove the charcoal canister it will cure this problem. When they install the custom titanium exhaust ( like I have ) they remove it. My bike never did this.

There's a recall through Ducati to replace a seal in the fuel cap. He should be able to get that installed for free at the dealer. Supposed to provide proper venting!
@paper____
@paper____ 6 жыл бұрын
Theres 2 different thinks. The cap is one. This problem is venting the tank. When you only have 1 gallon of gas in the tank & open the cap & it shoots 10 feet in the air, the cap is not at fault. For some reason the tank is not venting. I believe this is only on the USA bikes. Thanks Calf.

if you have to pay an "authorized dealer" to adjust a motorcycle chain I think its fair to say you should not own a motorcycle period. If you cant adjust your chain that means you probably do not check your tire pressure either, meaning you are a danger to yourself on the road.
