He addresses stress clutter points for many families: toys, gifts, artwork and paper clutter and how to reduce excess. Program closes with Joshua’s reminder that chasing stuff and comparing yourself to people who have more will never make you happy.

I was able to do it when I passed a junk yard on the way from work. And I heard God say all those things were new to someone one day. If I need it God is more than able to give the money to buy it or to have someone give it to me.

The big wake up call for me was when I realized we have a 4 car garage, plus another bay for storage, and we did not have room for our cars. It was winter in Vermont and I was routinely scraping ice and snow off the car in the early mornings because we could not park them in the garages. We are not big spenders but I am married to a man who has a hard time letting go. He still has a scuba suit that he has not used in 30 years!

I had spent several yrs in a poorer section of a foreign country. I was so amazed to hear them laughing when they had so little. I never understood it until i came across minimalism & decluttering. .. Minimalism & decluttering were the very first step of my becoming a 'wise steward' w/finances. .. Also, i no longer tried to bypass the scripture of Jesus telling the young wealthy man to sell what he had & give to the poor. The scripture,to me now, is a scripture of Freedom. 😊

May we all be better "Gatekeepers" :) Most of the things we have in our houses , don't deserve the space it takes up. Also, we will save tons of money...

One in, one out...will it have a home? This keeps me from buying more decor. My wonderful husband definitely has wayyyy more outside and wants to prepare for hard times.. and I'm always thinking...all this junk is CAUSING hard times now. Working through it with love and understanding.

Thank you for sharing and helping me change my mindset of stuff and minimalist. If I grew up not having all these toys and even though it did hurt me as a kid, it taught me to work hard and be grateful that God took care of the most important stuff like having a roof over my head, food and family. As an adult not having the toys other kids had was a great living lesson. Praise God for that 🙏❤

Same here. It is easy for me to not have much because I didn't grow up with much. But it was hard as a kid, not having what most kids had.

@@des711 Yes, I think the difference is that Joshua Becker is teaching his kids how to be content, and that lots of stuff doesn't give you that. They are minimalists by choice, not because they can't afford to buy more stuff.

Great stuff. Also, couldn't we show, teach, remind, not only the children, but ourselves...to recycle, to donate, to bless. Not to " just throw away". Let's be responsible, right? WE CAN ALL DO BETTER.

I would like to hear how to bless those foster kids coming through (giving them some of the lego to take along? Buying them something special to remember they are loved?), And also would like to hear how to reuse, recycle, donate, rather than throw in the trash.

I am a cottage core, antique loving homeschool mama with large family always having many kids around crafting playing studying laking camping and I keep trying to figure out how to minimize it all.

I had a 30 something year old Tennis Racket in My Cupboard that didn't touch a ball for over 20 years. I thought of someone who might want it. I took it to Church and there was a Boy who wanted to play Tennis but didn't have a Racket. Problem solved in removing 1 item

Thanks. I've been watching Joshua for sometime. I really appreciate the concepts he talks about. I am disappointed though that he or the other speakers don't include scripture. On a program that is Christian based I would think there would be freedom and openness in this platform for using scripture to strengthen the concepts and encourage de-cluttering/minimization. There are so many verses that we can draw from on this subject. Why are they not included?

Joshua mentioned a couple times... that God was doing a work in his/or our heart... at different stages and that He may not be working in a spouse's heart in the same manner... Exact scripture may not have been mentioned... but he does acknowledge, and gives credit to God's guidance in the decision to becoming a minimalist.

Linda, Although it’s a Christian Radio broadcast... it also reaches many non-Christians that also listen. Having worked in the ministry for over 20 years I have won more souls to Christ by showing kindness, love... and living my life along side of others, than by quoting scripture. Odd as it may seem, Joshua and Jim have probably experienced the same thing, and maybe tis the reason for bringing God into the interview without quoting the exact scripture.

@@sfranks7727 I agree that using godly attributes around people you have a relationship with is a good basis for helping that person be drawn into a relationship with God. But that is a different structure than a listener of a broadcast. If they are willing to ask a question, the delay in response can break the moment of impact. I'm sure God will continue to work in their heart, but you can understand my point. No one will be offended at hearing a single scripture. They most likely know they are listening to a Christian program. Why not give the audience a great quote from God's word. Someone once said...God's word will not return void, although ours may. Just food for thought.

I used to separate the toys in 3 containers, and only one container could come out at a time. I do give away plenty of new and used , and I keep like with like in Rubbermaid 13 gallons containers. I cover my bins with serape clothes 2 high, and use the tops for books etc. Once dead, all my stuff is to be given away free. I am contented.😊💕❤️🇺🇸 Allah u Akbar. God is great.
