This video contains selected highlights to give you a taste of this groundbreaking, historic event. To experience this workshop in full, it is available at the IFS store...just click here: ifs-institute.com/store/205
On March 30th 2019 - a bright crisp early Spring day in Cambridge, Massachusetts - a gathering was held at the Cambridge Friends Meeting House.
This day was an opportunity for an enthusiastic audience to witness a continuing conversation - a meeting of minds - between Dr. Richard Schwartz, founder of IFS or Internal Family Systems and Lama John Makransky, developer of ICT or Innate Compassion Training - which is derived from Tibetan Buddhism.
Offered as a daylong workshop, there were conceptual presentations, experiential guided practices, a video presentation and animated, inspiring conversation about spiritual practice and the many parallels and potential synergy between IFS and Tibetan Buddhism.
Please enjoy these selected highlights. If you want to experience the workshop in full, please click here: ifs-institute.com/store/205

As a therapist I experience success using IFS as a Christian system for Christian clients as well. The Self is similar to the Holy Spirit…. IFS is compatible with Christianity too.

The self would be one’s human spirit who can access the Holy Spirit.

22:40 Very powerful insight about our inner system's belief about the source of love and connection. My additional take: it's like our inner system is a resource manager who has to deal with importing the right materials... when the materials already existed in us.

Empathy w/o being overwhelmed is compassion. Empathy takes the neurological pain path- empathy is necessary in certain cases- but not the default

Love this. Been practicing IFS since 2006. How it's evolved into a spiritual and life practice, and the complementarity with other spiritual philosophies and practices brings me such joy. One day I believe Dr. Schwartz will be fully embraced by the field of psychology as a true revolutionary and icon.

IFS cought my attention recently and am curious, are you practicing it yourself, or you need a therapist, or someone who is aware in this system to have healing conversations with parts of yourself? Is it possible to go wrong if you only work it yourself?

@@slavenanikolova6260 Great question! There is a lot of IFS you can do alone. 'Self Therapy' by Jay Early and Dr. Schwartz's book "No Bad Parts" can help with that. To go all the way through to what's called unburdening and retrieval in IFS, we need the help of an IFS practitioner to do it right, and safely. 🙏

Thank you Chris for your guidance, it's much appreciated. It sounds fascinating even scratching the surface of it, but it also sounds that there is no end to it ...just logically is easy to think that once we get to know our hurt exiles and their protectors, it would be just a matter of time to heal them and release them...however by the sound of Dr Schwartz, that's a never ending practice. How do you experience that?

@@slavenanikolova6260 Sure, it can be never ending, but a lot of ground can be gained in a relatively short time with focused IFS practice. Meaning, we can achieve a significant amount of healing and may feel that that's good enough for the time being. I have some folks that do continuous IFS work with me, and others that do a few sessions, bring healing to a few exiled parts, achieve more Self Energy and stop there. Others come and go in and out of that work with me. In any case, I wish you all the best. "May the Self be with you!" :>

This video was really helpful for me in understanding that all of us have parts regardless of the role. And the only sane and humane response is acceptance within each one of us. As a survivor of sexual abuse the hatred of manipulation and abuse paired with liking the energy of a personality very much confused me. So the parts of the pedophile confused me. And my response to the parts. Its complex. I have been very confused over most relationships outside of me and inside of me. With this format and theory I can hold perspectives that allow space and complexities. Not black and white box thinking.

There are no bad parts. No bad “ego” to transcend or kill. Ego has gotten a bad rap. Spiritual by-passing pain and calling it enlightened is bs. Integration is the kinder, more embodiment, healing of the fragmentation so many self proclaimed gurus have been trying to deny is why and how they can perpetrate harm on their followers and claim no responsibility for it.

The problem with Christianity is “ live thy neighbor as thyself” that’s exactly wha happens many numerous never were allowed to live themselves so they treat their real neighbors with disdain and can do horrible things to them. Christians need to get real with themselves and realize these numerous parts

The scripture in John says "We love because He first loved us," not, "we love because we are loved." Just wanted to clarify due to the operational meaning and relationship that humans have with an alpha being that created us. Thank you!

Totally agree with the woman’s points on perfection and Buddhist practice. Actually it’s a problem with all spiritual practice. I always see the real persons within the person and find some proponents of spiritual practice present impossibly perfect clearly denying their dark or difficult aspects or ‘ parts’ I often have the trickster in me picture picturing echart toll surrounded by naked dancing nublie women..😂😂😂😂.
