Do you know who you are? It’s the question that’s been puzzling philosophy and psychology for millennia. Roger Evernden argues that two powerful society norms cause many of us to limit our full potential. To become the best version of us we need to break away from the cultural pressures to be a single, dominant self and to measure success by our achievements.
Imagine if you’d been living in a house all of your life. One day you discover a hidden passage and find that the house is almost double the size - with lots of rooms you had never seen before. Now imagine that you are in the house: you only really know one of your selves. How would you feel if you could find the key to unlock your hidden selves? Knowing your many selves might give you the courage to step beyond a mundane life and achieve the things that matter to you.
Becoming Your Many Selves is about a quest to embrace our diversity and be the best version of us. Roger describes five practical and straightforward techniques that will help you become your many selves and achieve your full potential. It draws upon a wide range of approaches, from psychology and self-help, including Carl Jung, Myers Briggs, voice dialogue, personality tests and daily star signs!
Roger says “A talk like this doesn’t just happen - and I’d like to publicly thank everyone involved in the TEDxFolkestone team who helped me bring this talk to life. Everyone, from the organisers to the volunteers to the production team was so supportive and helpful. I am also extremely indebted to my wife Elaine - who empathically listened to my talk over and over throughout its development; she always offered excellent advice and encouragement.”

Roger is concurrently a business consultant, an IT professional and an accomplished musician and composer. He started playing the piano when he was 8, and has been playing, composing and publishing music ever since. His interest in organisational change and leadership has led him to become an international keynote speaker and writer, with experience of working with more than 200 leading organisations in 25 countries around the world. He is author of Enterprise Architecture - the Eight Fundamental Factors & 101 Lessons From Enterprise Architecture; Developed the Information FrameWork (IFW), used by IBM in the Financial Service sector. He’s played in bands such as ‘Capital Chaps’ and ‘Watch My Lips.’ …a man of diverse skills and interests! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This is the question I feel I have struggled with for my entire life- reconciling the many sides of self… thank you for this. I’m not going to do research on how these selves working together rather than in opposition can enhance creativity!

Give it enough time, and I realize my identity is that of not being forced or expected into anyone's box of expectations and limitations. And yeah, that makes the others resentful of chosing the basic identity because they realized life is NOT AT ALL like tv and movies and REAL people are more complex and wiser of what they do not want harming their inner them than we give them credit for.

This is a very interesting way to look at not only changing the definition of personality, but also the possibilities of how one can live their life!
