@Luke Jarvis If you going to fit this type insulation you mention I advice for Ireland type of wet weather to sand & paint the wall with damp seal paint if you find it expensive then buy cheap white paint & add mould killer into it very important to do that (always wear goggle and mask) then when it dry stick to the wall plastic sheet the thicker is better then fix the insulated plasterboard trust me will make a big difference. Best luck with that

hi Paul.i have been applying this render for decades, where the boundary line of an adjacent property i e semi detached ,with this system there is a stop trim that runs from top to bottom that is mechanically fixed and silicone applied. Some firms will return the scrim on a bead, like its a window reveal for example. If there is already a "decorative" finish a lot of care is needed and the trim/bead is applied as near as possible to it.

Could you consider doing another video which shows how you design around some of the awkward things that one faces with a house, for example satellite TV dish fitting, closing the end of the insulation against an un-insulated semi, and so on? The Welsh Government's evaluation of the technology suggests that it is let down by fitters arriving on site and having to fix problems on the fly. They recommended that sites should be surveyed by a qualified person who would then design solutions to problem items so that the fitting team would come fully prepared. Thus a 'Nighmares we discovered and how to fix them' video would be illuminating.

I have no idea how these guys do it. When my house was done, everything outside the house was taken off, satellite dishes, drain pipes, security lights, alarms, outside taps etc. blocks of wood was fitted to the wall, the same depth of the insulation used and then everything screwed back in to place, but into the wood, not the wall. Then someone else comes along, fits insulation, render/pebble dash, job done.

They did a full prefab ex coal board estate near me. It's crap mate, the depth of the reveals round the windows you could park your car on! And the cut outs for the drain pipes etc look aweful. Plus it's really soft there's only like a hard skin on it....slightest knock and it outs a big hole in it. I was digging out a garden of one of the house with my mini digger, piling the spoil up and a bit of concrete rolled towards house put a great dent in wall...😳 It's not good ...but I guess it's the only way to insulate a prefab house....wattle and dorb would be better...😂😂

Agree....after a year the effect of lacking ventilation shows its destructive effect on the internal living space. A pity this is not addressed in this type videos. Unfortunately this problem is hard to solve in old buildings. Again, this type of insulation does reduce the energy bill effectively of course, but the internal build up of humidity that can no longer escape through the walls, causes internal wall paint and wall paper to turn black, grow mushrooms after some time.....
@hearthjunkie8173

@@paulbrands6239it’s we’ll known that when you insulate a house in this way that humidity is the next problem. So a dehumidifier is needed.
@UhOhUmm
@UhOhUmm Жыл бұрын
@@hearthjunkie8173 if there is a ventilation shaft in the house then simply getting a grill that's more open and leaving the windows on micro-ventilation can do enough to balance out the humidity. The main issue is that some people do not care, if you insulate your house you NEED to buy a thermometer with hygrometer and monitor the humidity in the house, if it's constantly high and improving ventilation doesn't help then you need to get a dehumidifier. Usually dehumidifier isn't required, because in winter the air outside is dryer (because it's cold) and you heat up your house, there is a drying effect and in the summer you usually have AC on (or at least I hope you do if you're renovating the house already).

I got a MEES report done by the company who provided the EPC report as I want to guarantee I'll get a C if I do the work! They also said I need loft insulation on south side and a new boiler (specific as I've already done it! They ask you what you've already done before running the report) and low energy lighting. If you're interested I used Easy EPC but I expect most EPC firms offer the MEES report. It cost about £65, EPC was about £60. You can ask them questions too, so I'm really pleased I got it! Very informative video. We have some contractors carrying out this type of work on our street. I notice that they only cut the foam tiles to shape and then fix them using only the mechanical fixings, they don't use any adhesive to secure the foam panels prior to mechanical fixings. What's the advantage of using adhesive and mechanical fixings?
@BeConstructiveLTD
@BeConstructiveLTD 2 жыл бұрын
1. Fire safety - no ventilating behind when bonding as you bond on all the perimeter of the boards trapping any air. Also you then have plaster adhesive at both front and back of the boards. 2. Loading - both mechanical and bonding produce far superior pull off tolerances to wind etc. 3. You actually don't use any less basecoat dry fixing because you normally compensate using extra basecoat to get it level. 4. Bonding first allows you to fix straight, which again gives better structural performance. 5. Bonding secures the boards to unlevel surfaces much easier. 6. Bonding gives the system much better change of not cracking in the long run, saving on maintenance costs. 7. Both bonding and mechanical how the Europeans do it especially in Germany where systems have had longevity 30-40yrs plus. The dry fix method is a British 'cost cutting exercise'

What , of no help ? ridiculous . if the interior walls have open cavities and the new insulation creates air tightness in the walls then the cavity becomes a dead air space . not as effective as insulation but still very good . The biggest source of heat loss in any house is air infiltration . this system accomplishes both , eliminating air movement through the walls and insulation simultaneously .

Re-rendering pebbledash without removing pebbledash can be difficult if the right materials aren’t accessible. Removing pebbledash is a painful process, because removing the render requires hard work with a hammer and chisel, with the added risk of damaging the original brickwork. One of the best ways of re-rendering pebbledash without removing pebbledash render is by smoothing over it with our One Coat Dash Cover (OCDC). This is the ideal material to use, because it can be applied at a thickness of 20mm thick without compromising structural integrity.

All houses should have this including double glazing window, before the installation of solar panels. ( waste of money ) Then you can speak about saving. Keeping you warm or cold believe me Dom

From what I've heard from other people, it's a bit of a nightmare and the windows had to be installed from the interior of the house. Of course, every house is very different and a lot will vary from installation to installation

Nothing is fireproof for wildfires (mineral insulation melts most of the times) but this insulation also melts, so no not fireproof
@Thoracius
@Thoracius 2 жыл бұрын
Don't use plastic insulation in a fire risk area. Use rigid rock wool insulation instead. More expensive, but won't create dangerous poisonous fumes when in a fire.
