Jen, I agree with Tony. You could be on dodgy legal ground if you ever bash a burglar over the head with that baseball bat. Far more plausible legally if you have a cricket bat, plus some cricket pads in the wardrobe. Maybe some cricket stumps and a cricket ball too (they would make decent weapons too!). But far better to have decent exterior doors. Many houses just have a pathetic Yale type lock (aka night latch) which any junkie or petty crook can open with a credit card or putty knife in a few seconds. I'd suggest getting a locksmith to advise, but at a minimum you need a deadlock that fits into a length of metal on your door frame and hinge bolts. Maybe some actual traditional sliding bolts, so you can secure the door when you are in the house alone. If you spend a few hundred pounds with a good locksmith, you can make your house extremely difficult to break into.

My house is Fort Knox - security systems etc. It's more for peace of mind :D

@@JenDre Ditto, have to use the back door (modern multi point locking) if away for any time as three large internal bolts on the front door, locks on all windows, it won't stop anyone determined but they will make a lot of noise trying to get in. I keep an antique Sword Stick beside the bed. Thought of fitting an alarm but the neighbours ones always seem to be triggered in a thunder storm and by a certain local Taxi company's radio.
