Great reaction, thank you. So true about every Bee Gees song you are listening to is your favorite. That’s what I say to myself every time. I love this song but it always hits me that Barry who sings the “ but I don’t want to be alone” is actually alone without his brothers. Thank God he has a wonderful wife, Linda with who they celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary, and he’s surrounded by his five kids and his grandkids.

You girls (I'm 70) are the biggest BeeGees fan I know.....besides me. Aren't they great. I have 8-tracks of them from the 60's, vinyls of their disco period 1970's, and CDs from their 90's hits, plus a few dvd's ..... Love your reactions.....❤

Alone and For Whom The Bell Tolls are my two favourite Bee Gees songs. Robin's voice is truly extraordinary and resonates with me on an emotional level in a similar way to David Gilmour's guitar. It pierces straight through to my senses, bypassing the distraction of listening to the song on an intellectual level. When you have these sublime voices and perfect harmonies and combine it with songwriting and musical genius this is what you get.

Robin actually had a higher voice than Barry's natural voice. A live version of Nights on Broadway or World shows this clearly. I loved your reaction to Robin coming in. They have lots of great songs where I am enjoying it and then Robin comes in (often just with a short ad lib) and it lifts the song to a new level.

First the Bee Gees reaction request, 'Tears'. The companion song to 'Bodyguard'. They both came off the same album. As for 'Alone', the 'playa' fell in love, and doesn't want to play 'no mo'. By chance, he met someone that's making him evaluate his empty lifestyle. So the chase is on, to persuade her that his love is true & real. And that a life lived 'alone', isn't a life loved and lived at all. Robin's vocal in the chorus was epic! GREAT REACTION!

Thank you so much. This is a beautiful song. So poignant that Barry is left in the studio alone at the end of the video. Noticed that you mentioned the disparity between the sad lyrics and the upbeat melody. They did that in Stayin Alive as well. Trying to stay alive on the streets of new york, while dancing around. Wonderful. You could perhaps listen to One for another suggestion. Every time i hear it, it jumps to the top of my favourite songs list. Thanks again

I love all of your Bee Gees reactions. Their music is timeless and will live on for future generations. I do request that the two of you do a reaction to their final single & video from 2001, called "This Is Where I Came In". It would be their last hit before Maurice passed away in 2003. The song lyrics (and subsequent somewhat humorous video) reflect on their life together as brothers and as a music group. The video is an homage to their traveling days when they toured using a VW van very much like the one in the video... and be sure to look for the scene where their "mother" is ironing Barry's white pants that he wore in the "Staying Alive" video. He even picks them up and smiles. It is a great video and a great song. The song style is also a throwback to their very earlier music style, but because of the way they did it, it would have been right at home on a progressive rock station during the time of 2000/2001. I hope you will give it a listen and watch sometime. Again, I have really enjoyed your reactions.

Thanks for your reaction! The BeeGees were: the tallest and oldest brother (with the big hair and beard), Barry Gibb, born September 1, 1946, the only surviving Gibb brother. Robin Gibb (with the long hair, no beard), born December 22, 1949-passed away May 20, 2012, and Robin's fraternal twin brother Maurice (the balding brother with the beard, pronounced "Morris") Gibb, born December 22, 1949-passed away January 12, 2003. They also had another, younger, brother Andy Gibb, born March 5, 1958-passed away March 10, 1988. The three oldest brothers were born on the Isle of Man (UK). Oldest brother Barry got seriously burned when he accidentally pulled boiling tea over himself at 18 months old. He was in coma for a while, nearly died and was in hospital for many months. Because of this, he did not learn to talk until after the twins were born. Later the family moved to Manchester and from there they emigrated to Australia in 1958, right after Andy was born. Their musical career, which they had started as little kids, didn't lead to international success so they moved back to the UK in 1966. Then they had a string of big hits, until they temporarily broke up around 1970 for 15 months. Started back up, looking for a new sound which they first found in 1974 with the transitional album "Mr. Natural". After that "Main Course" was the first album that moved them into a new direction: more rhythm&blues, dance music like with great hits like Nights on Broadway and Jive Talkin'. From 1976 on they went all out with falsetto driven dance music which lead to their biggest commercial success as they provided classic songs for the Saturday Night Fever Soundtrack (1977 Stayin' Alive, How Deep is Your Love, Night Fever amongst them). You should react to the 1979 live version of Stayin' Alive, too kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bdSZi7aZnNy7gn0.html Other great songs to analyze: great album tracks from the 1979 Spirits Having Flown album, the title song: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ja6PnZxhy6mtm2g.html, the outrageously beautiful song Reaching Out kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rMx4iLZmssyUYIU.html. From their Still Waters album, Smoke and MIrrors: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/g7ppqbV5uL2ykp8.html. From the 1960's I've gotta get a message to you kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eadkdqyfqdS4m2w.html.

Another great reaction to this group!! So good hearing Robin shine in this! Could you please react to The Bee Gees “Will you still love me tomorrow”. They did this cover for a tribute to songwriter Carole King. While the original by the Shirelles is beautiful, the Bee Gees arrangement is very different and Carole King commented that she liked The Bee Gees arrangement more than her own.

Another one for you to do would of course be one of the songs they wrote for Barbara Streisand - "Woman in Love" - which also really shows off the range of her own voice in it as well . . . I love The Bee Gees, too. They are my all-time favorite musical group. Growing up in the 1970's, I had a poster of The Bee Gees on my bedroom wall and, at the age of 13 in 1978, I wore a Saturday Night Fever T-Shirt. Barry reflected on his sorrow for the problems they sometimes had and when his brothers were both gone he mourned their deaths very much. It has been very hard on him mentally. Now Barry is going through serious medical problems himself it is hard to watch him suffering.

They started performing and recording as the BG’s in 1958…still kids and recording and performing as such up through the 2000’s! No wonder they were called legions when inducted into the rock & roll hall of fame. They wrote so many songs for other artists that were hits for them..Dion Warwick called them hit makers.

@@generationgapreacts - What Barry said was a "bit" of a generalization and in fact not "always" true but "often" true since sometimes they did try to marry a particular song to the most suitable voice for that song. He also said that even though a song might have been the idea of a particular brother, their voice might not have been the one most suitable for it. This is apparent since Barry and Robin sang lead in many songs together or sang alternate verses reflecting the fact that they wrote them together. Barry and Robin wrote 90+% of their songs as a team and Maurice about 70% with his brothers. His forte was the musicianship and finding the right instrumental accompaniment and harmony. They often sang lead in unison and although their voices were quite different they blended like one. It was difficult to tell who was who.

Well, falsetto used here and again, very good. But it's under 10 % included in their whole career. Much more chest-voice tracks! To identify their natural voices, introduce your daughter to songs like 'Bury Me Down By A River' (Barry), 'Black Diamond' (Robin) and 'All By Myself' (Maurice). Lesser known songs, but ah, so, so good!

@@Zlata1313 - That is true. The Gibb ancestors were definitely Scottish going WAY back. Their mom's family were English. Their Scottish grandfather a few generations back was a weaver and when that industry became mechanized he lost his job, his wife died and he had to put their children in "The ragged children's home". ☹

As amazing as their voices are even more amazing is that they wrote all of their songs and many hits for others. They have God given talent because they weren’t musically trained and could not read music. I think they are the greatest songwriters of the past 50 years.

New subscriber. Interesting that you pointed each brother out. They changed appearances, especially Robin, so much over the years. The film clips of the Bee Gee's when they were very young was filmed in Australia where they lived here after moving from England. Australia claims the Bee Gees as ours, as they began their singing career as the Bee Gee's in Australia. The first time they appeared on TV was on Bandstand (the Australian version of American Bandstand) which was hosted by Brian Henderson. I have put links below of their early performances on Bandstand in 1963 and 1965. Just in those 2 years you will see their physical change and hear the beginning of their harmonies. Hope you enjoy them. 1963 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ja2BnZOcydC0epc.html 1963 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mNaIi8KXutHPlX0.html 1965 - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Z5aEjclptNTXqXU.html

@@generationgapreacts I found this video of the Bee Gees performing in Melbourne, Australia in 1974. It shows a comical side of them that you did not see much of as they became successful. The sound is good, the video a little grainee. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fNuJhq1l3MWWZo0.html

There are so many wonderful songs. If you want to hear Barry in chest voice, rather than falsetto, try "Nothing Could Be Good" from the "Living Eyes" album. Still gives me goosebumps. Robin on lead on "Don't Fall in Love With Me" plus the chorus harmonies will leave you weak kneed. The whole album, post Fever period, is a gem. I also love "Paradise" from the same album. "Living Eyes would be great for a deep dive, and of course ANY thing from "Main Course," "Children of the World" or "Spirits."
