There will never be another group like them. They often wrote about their life replacing the brother for a female, with this song telling how they felt when Robin left the group and returned. Written around the same time as How can you mend a broken heart which was also done when Robin returned. Don't forget to remember me was when Robin first left the group. It was actually Mo who came up with the Melody as he so often did.

When they did this live they REALLY picked up the tempo and got into it after the intro, much faster than here, and got the audience responding. This was pretty sedate. I recall seeing Robin in a Japanese concert leaping across the stage like a gazelle to the up tempo part. I didn't think he could move that way, wonders never cease, LOL! The song was one of two written (How can you mend a broken heart) just after they reunited in 1970 and it could be interpreted as "Where would I be without my brother". They truly were close and missed each other. They parted as boys but came back together as men who respected each other. As far as addictions, The Bee Gees were better than most. Robin became a total teetotaler and vegan fairly early on and Maurice conquered his alcoholism, albeit after a couple of attempts. Barry was never big into anything except pot. In the 60's all the groups took amphetamines as stimulants to keep going and it was readily legally prescribed back then. The Bee Gees avoided the nasty stuff. Robin said that stuff scared the sh!t out of him. Look how many groups and soloists ended up dead. Both Robin's and Mo's deaths had nothing to do with their youthful behaviours. Mo's death was pure and simple malpractice. He went undiagnosed with a twisted intestine and died unnecessarily of sepsis and a resultant heart attack at 52. A couple of years later his twin Robin developed the same condition but it was diagnosed in time. Being a twin who lost his brother with the identical condition tipped his doctor off to what was going on. Unfortunately he then developed cancer and died a horrible death. Even Andy was clean when he died but his death was indirectly related to previous to drug abuse that weakened his heart. I think it will be a long time, if ever, that we will see such talent in one family.

There’s something that the Bee Gees do to people that watch them and I can’t even put it into words! But just look into the faces of all three of them when they’re singing it’s like they take their heart out of their chest and just put it out there they sing with their heart and soul with such raw emotion it’s just gorgeous!!

Great, great song of them! Sung together in majestic harmony. About beatlesque: Bros. Gibb were born musicians and singers and started earlier as the fab four. They would have made it anyway, whoever would have been around, musically. Fact is, there isn't any singer/musician/band, which wasn't influenced at all. Unique about Bee Gees is, their great ability to always create new and modern sounds. You can't find them in one category, so they were everywhere!

Their harmonies were always so unique. I think this escaping the problems of being a touring band member is one reason I support certain artists with the courage to take care of themselves instead of going down the drug abuse and other bad coping strategies seen so tragically in some musicians. Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones was a hard one for me. Dead at 26.

No, there will never be another Bee Gees. The greatest pop band that ever lived. But I wouldn't really say the succumbed to the rock and roll lifestyle. Andy, their little brother, did to an extent, but Robin and Maurice died of illnesses not really related to addictions or anything like that. And of course, Barry's still alive and kickin'.

The Bee Gees spilt up in 1969 because of problems in the group especially between Robin and Barry. It went all wrong when their manager chose First Of May over Lamplight as the A side of the single from their album Odessa. Robin had over a lenght of time felt that Rober were favoring Barry over him So he said "I've Had it" and left the group. 18 months later either Robin or Barry called the other and asked if they could meet. That afternoon they found their way back to the way they had written music in the past and wrote 2 hits. Lonely Days that went number 3 in the US but only number 33 in the UK and was released on their 1970's album 2 Years On. How Can You Mend A Broken Heart that went number 1 in the US (Their first), but did not chart in the UK, it was released on their 1971 album Trafalgar

"First of May" was a great pop tune, since sung by a lot of others but "Lamplight" is a classic IMO. It likely wasn't appreciated as much at the time as it is now. Actually, they likely needed a break at the time to grow up and appreciate and respect each other.

@@susieq9801 Thank God they did. I always wondered why Barry said he wasnt on speaking terms with all his brothers when they died. I figured out Andy and Robin but couldn't figure out why with Maurice. Someone said business disagreements. Sad.
@susieq9801
@susieq9801 2 жыл бұрын
@@SueProv - Barry was frustrated with Andy's drug abuse and thought tough love would work but it didn't. It also was too late because his heart damage was already done. He tried to push Andy to record again but his confidence was shattered and he was terrified of failure. Andy was sent to live with Robin in a cottage on his estate because Robin wasn't drinking or using drugs, he was not as close to Andy and therefore hopefully more strict with him and he lived in a small English town away from the availability of drugs and bad influences but again, it was too late. For a while they actually became closer than they had ever been before but Andy was depressed and became very paranoid. Whenever he saw Robin coming he would turn off the lights and hide. He also got into booze somehow and got drunk, falling and knocking out his teeth. Both Barry and Robin felt responsible for Andy's death but there was nothing they could do. Robin and Barry were competitive and both stubborn. That was good in the sense that they pushed each other to be better. Barry had always been the leader and disliked being challenged but Robin was always a rebel and had the nerve to repeatedly stand up for himself and I feel rightfully so. Robin also tended to let whatever was in his brain come out of his mouth, sometimes embarrassing Barry. Robin was very eccentric and Barry admitted he really never understood him as an adult although he said he was a hilarious kid and nobody could compete with his wit as an adult. In the case of those two it was strong personalities and family dynamics but they did love and admire each other. Robin admitted he was moody, hard to get to know and overly sensitive. A lot of his moodiness was likely due to untreated PTSD after the train wreck. He became very somber after that and he said it haunted him for the rest of his life. After Mo died there was no one to mediate between them. In Mo's case I heard there was some disagreement over changing record companies because they felt they weren't (likely true) being promoted as they should be. Nobody disliked Mo but again, Barry was very controlling. It has been said Barry never gave up his need to be "Big Brother" even when they were all adults. That was good in some ways because Mo was "go with the flow" guy and Robin tended to be erratic. Unfortunately that caused personality clashes.
