Beef bulgogi
Ingredients
- 500g beef (I used rib eye)
- 1/2 onion
- 1 Asian pear
- 4 cloves of garlic
- Small knob of ginger
- 1 spring onion
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- Pinch of ground black pepper
- 1 tbsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 carrot sliced
- Lettuce leaves to serve
- Kimchi to serve
Method
1. Thinly slice 500g of beef and set aside.
2. In a blender, blend 1/2 onion, 1 Asian pear, 4 cloves of garlic, small knob of ginger, and 1 spring onion, 2 tbsp of soy sauce, 2 tbsp of brown sugar, a pinch of ground black pepper, and 1 tbsp of toasted sesame oil until smooth.
3. Marinate the sliced beef in the blended mixture and carrots for at least 30 minutes or up to 24 hours.
4. Heat your grill on high heat and grill the beef until cooked to your liking.
5. Serve with sliced carrots, lettuce leaves, and kimchi. Enjoy!

I know ‚bulogi‘ from our China-restaurants as a very lean beef, cut in thin mouthpieces, marinated and then grilled by the guests themselves on a table griller! Served with rice is it one of my favorite dishes there - so good!! But I’m confused now- what Andy had made here is very different and also annother kind of meat…🤔🙄🤷🏼‍♀️

I remember a little Korean-American diner that had a bulgogi beef sandwich. The pickled veg and the bulgogi beef with american cheese melted over the top on a buttered, toasted hoagie roll. I can still taste it if I close my eyes and think about it.

Yep. Perfect Korean fusion. Ribeye is what’s used for both bulgogi and Philly cheesesteaks so the marriage of the two makes total sense.
