Soppy story, but my parents divorced when I was young, about 8. My parents would fight- really, really, nasty- nothing physical, but screaming and swipes at the air. And some nights, after a fight- late, late at night, my dad would sit down and play this song. And one night, I’d snuck out of bed and was snuggling my mom on the couch in the living room, listening to my dad playing in the other room, and she said, “I’ don’t know how anything so beautiful can come out of someone so hateful”. I’m not sure she should have said that to me, but she was hurting, and it’s always stuck with me, and given this song a special poignancy. My father is unreachably far from guiltless, but at least sympathetic in that he’s always been trapped as a very stubborn, complicated, emotionally quiet man, and I always felt like him playing this was his way of trying to apologize. The meaning has evolved as we’ve all aged (my siblings and I) and played it for each other over the years, in new contexts, and happier places, and it’s a truly beloved piece of the family. And this rendition is just our style- honestly, chef’s kiss So rare to see it played with such feeling and at such a gentle tempo

@@Psycho-da (New account) It's been quite the ride haha. First year went through a super bad depression, gained like an odd 130 lbs or so, stopped going out, blah blah blah. After that though been picking up the pieces and doing pretty great now. Frequenting the gym again like I used to--I've lost like 50 pounds so far, and I got accepted to my dream college: the Boston Conservatory. Things are looking up, and I'd like to think that my father is looking down with pride. If there's anything that I've learned from this ordeal is that there's no such thing as being too far gone.

@patriciobeiza64287 жыл бұрын

One of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written, and the late great Arrau presented one of the greatest performances ever recorded. I so much wish I could have played this at my mother's funeral - she herself was so gifted at the piano, but taken so young; I was only eight at the time. But sadly, I still could not perform to anything compared to this magnificent artistry even today.

I disliked it. Does that make me an idiot? I find this interpretation (much like Daniel Barenboim's) indulgent. It is, as Freya Parr said, "a laboured affair, ponderous in tempo and communicating not a lot more than the effort indicated by the sweat on his brow." I like the artists who can find the emotion in this piece without squashing and stretching it past its breaking point.

I've heard Kissin play it this slowly, but he could not seem to capture all the nuances demanded. (just my opinion) This rendition, however, was near flawless! As one who plays this piece I can tell you that the slower one plays it, it becomes exponentially MORE difficult! One tiny slipped note, or missed cadence, or a note struck too weakly or just minutely too loudly, and the piece is destroyed. Knowing that, nothing causes me more consternation than playing this in front of people who understand all this.

¡No hables huevadas, Erick!...
@joselefian81294 ай бұрын
