The second part, the "Arietta" reveals through the majestic playing of Richter all the "rooms", the colors, the innovation, the thoughts and feelings of Beethoven..You hear Richter and you feel every tone as if it is a part of a magical world, in which fantasy, feeling and reality amalgamate in one body.

In the first movement, quite contrapunctical, Richhter gives a maximum understanding of the various lines, and of the contrast of intensities linked to contrasts in writing. In the second movements, he understands perfectly how a decorative element, such as the trill, becomes a thematic one step by step. A masterwork of rendition and understanding !!!

An aged Richter, physically diminished, and no longer able to fully match the punishing demands of the score. But digging ever deeper and soaring ever higher. There will never be one like him.

There is a mysterious process in which the rythm accelerates to become a trill, a decorative feature which has actually a thematic value. This is a part of the alchemy of the last works of Beethoven, which we retrieve in the last quartets.

Ok, ok, this is also very good, but, not even close to his 1975 Moscow live recording. For me, that one , the 1975 Moscow version is the best ever heard version of this sonata.

@@jamesnickoloff6692 Thank you for letting me know this recording! I Didn't know this recording. Great great!!. and yes, the first movement I like better in the 1963 version. 2nd mov. I still like the 1975 version.
