I just finished slowly reading through the Beethoven sonatas, and listening to most afterwards. I’ve concluded that this is my favorite Beethoven sonata.

Wherever you are, Valentina, stay safe. I'm 80 so it doesn't matter much for me, but for you and the younger ones, including my family, it matters a lot.

One of my favorite Beethoven Sonata. Not one of Beethovens ‘greatest hits’ but an incedible beautiful sonata full of emotions and beautiful moments. Thanks Valentina

Ronny Muller When listening to Beethoven’s sonatas in order, I get the impression that Beethoven was fulfilling a fundamental need to compose this one just after the Moonlight not because he was experimenting with sounds that would turn up later in the Sixth Symphony, but because he needed a sonata with as little eccentricity as possible after Opp. 26 and 27. He didn’t know that it would prove to be a world too pristine for virtually all his remaining piano sonatas. It certainly has its importance in the cycle as a beautiful moment of reassurance.

One of my favorites too of Beethoven’s. The first theme in the first movement is the classical version of Eric Clapton’s Layla.

In spite of the fact that I never played the piano , but for fifty years while I am listening to music I never heard such miraculous playing as of Valentina. The smoth running on fingers on the key , the posture and the playful smile on the pretty face . Thank you my dear you are the light for the people now and forever .

Bravo. I love this sonata. I went for many years paying little attention to it and suddenly discovered it about twenty years ago and worked on it myself for a while. It's always great to hear it played by someone who really knows how.

The nickname for this sonata may not have come from Beethoven, it was most likely the publisher just giving it a name.

I learned this myself before hearing any professional pianists play it, and it was one of my favourites. I had no idea of how a gifted pianist could play it, like someone who'd purchased a top end car but never learned how it could handle the turnpikes.

Wonderful, Val, as always. Many years ago, my brother arranged this for oboe (which I played then) with piano accompaniment (he played the piano - he was taking music classes in college then). It works pretty good for that; probably would for violin too. The 1st mvmt has kind of a back & forth dialog that works well for a dual instrument sonata. I have very fond memories of playing that with my brother for our parents, family and guests. As well as listening to my brother play this and other B's sonatas by himself (serene). That was SO many, many years ago! What wonderful times; sad that I can't go back to really appreciate them as much as I should have (didn't know how fleeting such wonderment & beauty is). ... Your impeccable & wonderful playing helps me re-live all of that again. Thanks Val for bringing back that wonderful memory.

Brava !! 👏🏼 Artist !! What a transition piece between sitting in the classical and more romantic period. I adore your wonderful phrasing and classical touches in the second movement. And this is such a gem of a Beethoven sonata. So lyrical and "pastoral" with wonderful moments of virtuosity, like that firecracker closing! 🎆
