I agree. This sonata is wonderful. Underrated.

Richard Goode may be the most underestimated of all modern pianists. My late brother (who led the Lindsay Quartet) knew and played with him, and once told me that he thought Richard was the greatest living pianist, ahead of the much better known Murray Perahia. My own thoughts about his playing are no fuss, no drama, just great music. I have no reason to disagree with my brother.

I agree, it's a superb interpretation. But how can you dislike the key of Emperor Concerto, Eroica Symphony, Sonata #4? This key is reserved for great stuff you know... :)

Drasko Bozovic An answer to your question as to what does the name hunt signify as a motif to this most lavish bit of key play, By the time the tempest was over the storm had left such a disarray of clutter and debris from such a mighty wind, Beethoven found himself in a lurch as to where his recently drafted manuscripts might have been swept off too, the wind hidden manuscripts I speak of were devised of a fine Bach like counterpoint and Beethoven's own signature devices of genius, this wonderous alchemy of notes would make up the bulk of what would become the late sonatas 28 through 32, so he did hunt and hunt again , while absorbed in his labors to find where the tempest might have blown those fine notes he simply palmed off number 18 as the hunt, call it homage to the artistic obsession, numbers 19 through twenty six were no more then a breeze of a very bad vintage of German wine laced with mercury,, which brings us to sonata no 25 ( the coo coo sonata) and a very fitting title at that because he had quite snapped his cap by then, after a short rehabilitation treatment in which the doctor had insisted the only way to replenish his sanity again was to simply let go, ( no use crying over spilled milk) well it worked, in sonata number 26 we find that sweet swan song of goodbye, at the same time Beethoven was also considering a move to Paris, to forget the past, he had been grooming himself on a little French before hand, bonjour, pomme, ou est le bar and of course adieu, hence the name given to 26, in the end it was no dice on the visa due to Beethoven's defilement of Napoleons name on the Erocia symphony, ( Even the French are unforgiving at times, no ones perfect) to shorten the end game of this very sorted history while he was finishing off no 27 he found his manuscripts for 28 to 32 under the clavier right next to the piss pot ,,, the hunt was over :@)
