I read this during my late 80s Vampire phase. It instilled me with a long time love of No More Go A 'Roving. I'm rereading Feast Of Crows and he mentions a place called Fevre River in The Queenmaker chapter.

It was an excellent read, imo so I definitely disagree with your assessment of the book, but not everyone likes the same things and that’s good. I really enjoyed it myself.

I really liked the book! I thought it was pretty good. It could have been great, but as a self contained story it was pretty good.

So happy to see you dropping videos again! Now what am I going to do with all this steamboat knowledge. I feel that way a lot when he goes on and on about stuff. But it's always pretty interesting.

I just have finished reading it a few days ago, and i really liked it. Spoilers ahead: Also you can pick up many symbolism things that he is using in ASOIAF, and you can guess a few things in the squisher side, from Aeron, from Patchface, from the Asshai and Shadow lands, and from the White Walkers. The most symbolicly rich passage is the one in chapter fourteen, where York speaks of a city of the night, iron and black marble in some dark cavern. This part is very similar to the Night's King who married an icy wife, the Long night, and the descriptions of the oily black stone spread on the coasts of Planetos, and the caverns Ygritte speaks about, the people of the night wandering, expelled from their city like the mariners fled from Asshai when the Bloodstone emperor overthrew them, arriving later to Starfall, Oldtown and the Iron Isles. I think the characters of Abner Marsh, Joshua York and Sour Billy are extraordinary, the latter being like Gollum, a treacherous murderous rascal that somehow inspires pity, and that in the end has a deciding role just like Gollum. Instead I think Damon Julian is a bit underdevelloped. He starts as an interesting character and the story peels away layer by layer of his "humanity", until only the beast is left. This is a great character idea, but somehow it did not work for me, I think it may be because he had a bit of plot armour at the end. He could kill them all with a bit of sun pain, but he plays the spider. I would guess an ancient being would be satisfied to take them all with it in the end, whatever the cost. That's just me I guess. The slow burn I loved, and it pays off for me. I loved the steamboat stuff, the joy of the race, the worries of the reputation lost, and the visiting of cities. The food. The peoples. The evils and horrors of that time. The sense of place is extraordinary. You are there. I love how the story transformed Abner. I love how it transformed York. I love how Abner made that toast, and the choice presented to York, just like Tyrion turns the Mountain clans of the Vale. The sadness and horror of the last days of the Fevre Dream, similar to the feelings in True Detective season 1. I hope more people read this story.

@@L33ReactsI believe if it comes out anytime, it will be meh. The expectations are too big by now, it's bigger than George could ever live up to it
