They are holes for “studs” little screw-in pegs that help with traction!

An “ergot” a dry, non sensitive piece of callous. Some horses have them and some don’t. They are similar to their leg chestnuts

The hoof is made of the same things as your nails, if someone trimmed your nails would it hurt?
