Luckily, we were mostly spared from major damage, but a lot of flooding, power outages, and debris everywhere.

I live in DeLand and lost power at 9 pm on Wed and just got it back this afternoon. I saw no major damage in my area but lots of flooding. I work at the Winter Park Scenic Boat tour and we suffered no damage but the lakes are so high that we can't get under the bridges. It will probably take a couple weeks for the water to come down. I have a CB00X and am trying to find gravel roads to practice on so your site has been a great help. I just did the Lake Apopka Wilderness Trail last week and enjoyed it and it gave me some confidence. I need to practice for the trip from Orlando to Prudhoe Bay that I hope to do next year.

WOW! I got a buddy in Orlando and he said his GF got some water dmg at her house...he stayed there from his place in Tampa.

Veteran of 40+ years in SoFla and all the associated hurricanes since. The fearcasters and social media weather 'experts' do little other than raise angst and anxiety as storms approach, especially for newbies. It's all for clickbait, revenue raising, even tho they argue to the otherwise. But this is how they make their $$ so... This is also what causes the ridiculous hoarding of water, TP, fuel, etc. Publix, Home Depot love it though. My advice: There are several good forecasting web sites I use and have honed my own forecasting skills over the decades. I'm rarely off- to that point, five days out I called Cape Coral as the point of entry for IAN and I was correct. I knew Tampa wasn't ground zero. There are reasons why Tampa rarely gets hit. NHC provides a lot of good straight info but they are exceptionally cautious in their forecasting until the storm is HERE. Then it's too late. Bottom line- prepare when the season arrives and then don't worry about it when it does. There's little you can do when the storm is approaching or here. Too late by then.
