The Smokey Mountain 500 is a treat for sure. We went several years ago and got snowed on! I'd like to re-visit that trail as we didn't have enough time to finish but have found it is so hard to ride places after doing the entire Continental Divide. Nothing like it. Highly recommend!

Just crossed over last year at Thousand Islands. No issues at all like this description. Was a bit more of a process getting back in to the US (Peace Bridge/Buffalo) than getting in to Canada. Interesting experience. Great video!

For me, the removal of the battery cover is quite difficult. Each time that I need to change the battery, I consult these instructions to be sure of where to apply the 'brute force'. This time, I needed pliers to remove the cover. Thank you.

I bought a new 2021 FJR ES and I’m loving the bike. One thing I’m concerned about, is the maintenance schedule on the swing arm bearings. At just 16,000 miles, the owners manual requires an inspection and grease repack of the bearings. This procedure is daunting and expensive and I’m wondering what other FJR riders are doing with this issue. Any opinions and comments would be much appreciated.

Great commentary on the FJR. Two points especially, I agree with. Replacing the factory seat and the visibility issue with the instrument panel in daylight. Kudos, though, on that motorized windscreen. Makes my Harley buddies jealous. 👍

Is the 2nd Gear "recall" acceptable. Meaning, are the 3rd Gen 6 speed bikes safe to own and operate?

I own a 2004 FJR 1300A and have had it for many trouble-free years! This bike is bullet proof. I have taken it on multiple multi-state tours, without a single issue. I am currently looking at buying a 2016 FJR or newer. I have three other bikes in the garage, but, this is my go to machine.

Agree, it's a bike you have to get use to. Took me a couple of years until it felt "right" for me. Once you do get to that point THEN it feels brilliant. Anyone doing a first ride review probably hates the weight, how high the weight is, and that the steering of this beast seems intimidating. Once you get use to the weight and the need to always counter-steer, it's great.

First off: great video. In fact your whole series seems very well done: professional, concise, and well produced. I have a '22 F850GSA, and just did the front and rear Tractive Suspension upgrades over the winter (but have yet to be able to ride it due to late winter weather in the northeast bleeding over into early spring). Any chance that you could do a video review of just the Tractive Fork Cartridge, including any gouge you might have on different settings for different riding conditions? Near as I can tell, there aren't any F850-specific Tractive reviews here on KZfaq, and getting your insight on the upgrade after so many miles would be really enlightening. Keep up the fine work!

An adventure motorcycle ride is when you get on a powerful machine, take it off road, and mess up some of the earth that we humans haven't destroyed yet. Ford streams and silt it up, killing aquatic life. Kick up dirt and cause incredible erosion. Make lots of noise in pristine wilderness. Make any wildlife who are left flee. FUN, FUN, FUN!!

Thanks for the video, I appreciate the info . Sold my 1999 BMW K1100 LT . Very much like the FJR in weight and the 99 was really a Sport Touring bike and I loved it. I'm retired and 74 and miss the road looking for a used FJR to replace my Beemer . I live in Indiana and on my bucket list is a trip to the West Coast and then 101 from The top of Washington down to San Diego and then Route 66 back .

Bought my first FJR used, a 2005 Bass Boat Blue model, back in 2006 with just 10k miles on the clock. Rode is all over the northeastern US and Canada. Took a 2 week cross country trip from New England to Montana and Wyoming with my wife on the back in 2014. Ride of a lifetime. When we got back the local dealership was having a demo day. I went in expecting to ride and buy a Super Tenere, but after riding one was underwhelmed. The S10 really didn’t give me anything more than the old 2004 Suzuki DL1000 Vstrom that I already owned. Took a test ride on the 2014 FJR1300ES and wow! So much better than my old 2005 in so many ways. Went right inside the dealership and plopped down a deposit on the one that they had in stock. I’ve put 70k miles on the 2014 with absolutely no issues. And that 2005 FJR had 100k miles of trouble free miles on it when I sold it to a fly and ride guy from Tennessee. He’s still riding it and loving it. For big sport touring bikes, you really can’t do any better than an FJR.

It would be doable on this bike. I would personally use an FIR or some other touring like bike for that just for the weather protection for that long of a commute. Good luck in whatever you choose.

Thought about a Connie as I had a 2012 ZX14R but with the VVT it has poor top gear roll on compared to the FJR..Plus I don't think it looks as good. Like you, I wanted more amenities and my 2015 has most with the heated grips, cruise control and elect windshield. Did an 800+ mile day and I'm 71 so I was impressed. Have Yosh slip ons, power commander and K&N filter..Dynoed at 134 at the wheel so still has enough grunt to keep me entertained..

Would anybody know how the FJR compares to an ST1100 (pan european)? I drive one of those and I'm thinking about a possible FJR. I heard the FJR handles better despite the higher weight. But tbh, I'm also afraid I don't have the discipline/maturity for the higher power.

The tail section of the rear subframes on these bikes cracks pretty easily, and it looks like a torsion fracture from what I have seen. I don't think the front two bolts on the rear deck are an issue, they are right over the subframe rise, but the 3rd bolt has more leverage for twisting because it is so far back and I think what causes the danger. I think the point of the shorter spacer is so you wont have any weight down on that rear most bolt, and they are using it for support by pulling it UP with the shorter spacer to keep the end of the tail up and supported by the SR357. Adding washers on top of the rear spacer to make it higher may very well be working against you here.
