Hi everyone!! Welcome back to my channel and to the first mini refurb of our new home. This room took us FOUR months from start to finish. It’s actually been really fun doing it up and as you can see in the video we did a fair bit ourselves. So excited to have partnered with one of my favourite furniture brands in the WHOLE ENTIRE UNIVERSE on this project!!!?!?!! West Elm kindly gifted us our furniture for this room. Eeeek ohmigosh actual dreams coming true in my living room with those pink velvet chairs and dark blue feature wall! I’ve linked all the items below as well as the materials we used. It's absolutely gorgeous, going in my saved file for inspiration! When we moved into our pub, the wooden floors were from the early 1800's, and had at least an inch of paint, stain, etc! After a lot of hard work, and screaming at each other, I decided to remove a section, turning over the boards (where I could) to the bare side, and sand it in situ...omg, it saved our relationship!! 😁 😁 😁 😁 😁

Stunning make over. I love dark walls, I have a navy hall and bedroom and even a black bathroom. It must have been like the best Christmas day ever getting to choose everything you loved from West Elm. I love their things too but only manage to get a few bits in their sale. thank you so so much! I Can't even begin to tell you how much it felt like Christmas Day hehehe. I have loved their stuff for as long as I've loved interiors and doing up my home. 8 months later and my living room still looks and feels as good as new the quality is just so good! :D Love the sound of the black bathroom too!

Good call Jess, we used the JL design service who recommended a subtrle shading of colours through our multi-zone living space, all depending om how much light we had in each zone. It looks uniform but isn't... brilliant solution !

Quick tip for anyone else. You can flip boards over if you have one you cannot get things off of and use stainable wood putty to fill in where the board doesnt fit as snug now that it is reverse butted up against other boards if any gaps occur or sand if too big

Thank you that is such a good tip!! Especially with that horrible black tar paint on them. We are actually planning to lay a wood floor throughout right into our extension later on in the year so our boards are just temporary right now.

You’ll find most old houses have that painted edge to original floorboards - people did it before fitted carpets, or when fitted carpets were too expensive for most people. They’d paint round the edge and put a rug just in the middle of the room. You worked really hard, room looks beautiful

thank you so much!!! so I'd had my hair dyed for the wedding I get it done by Lauren at Charlotte Cave salon in clapham. she is magic!!! She puts olaplaex treatment through it whilst dying it so it becomes a shiny blonde and then I use the Bleach London purple shampoo once a week and omg it brings the brass blonde back to life and all silvery. Its one of the best blonde shampoos out there and its very reasonably priced. And the print is from JUNIQE I've linked it at the bottom of the comments section :D xxx

What a beautiful room. You've done an amazing job. Just a note - doors were hung the original way because ( I've been led to believe) it's for modesty purposes? So if someone goes to walk in the room - you can shout stop whilst they're still ' behind the door' before they enter the room? But I totally get that it takes up more space that way lol

After going through the stripping of the floor for a rustic appeal the installation of the panelling and all that entailed, the painting of the panelling in a gorgeous blue, and the walls in white I would be absolutely gutted with the finish. I have purchased many West Elm items from John Lewis. My coffee table is identical in its workings but natural in its appearance and thankfully not looking like a piece of furniture from the 70s. JL also sell many candles scented ones in pastel colours. Ikea sell decorative accessories to match any company. Both sell lighting. Plants can be purchased from B & Q. Rustic and retro do work together but quite honestly not here. After all the backbreaking work sadly you sold not only yourself to West Elm's interior designer and you also sold you living room out. I am though off to B & Q for that particular blue paint.

I guess we all have different interior tastes. Theres also items in the room from Ikea, the plants in the room are from B&Q as is the paint and we have also filled the room now with personal items from our travels. Hope you love the blue paint on your walls! we love it on ours.

I like the color but for me it would be too much I would have left the fireplace and the shelves white like it was before painting everything the same color. And like someone said underneath it’s more talking than the actual makeover

I think the finished project is great but I thought "Wow, Wow, Wow" when I saw the white cabinets with the white area above the fireplace combined with the drama of the dark paneled walls. That was so beautiful.

hi thanks so much!! the primed vertical panel is from Wickes it's called 'primed beaded panel" and the panel design on the fire place was bespoke by a carpenter. hope this helps :)

Love the room! How did you find using Valspar pain? They previously received bad reviews but I’m struggling to find the colours that I want with Dulux.

I really like valspar we used it in our flat before and were happy with it so tbh it was my go to. I think they have a great range of colours and better than dulux colour options. However I would say my only thing is that the dark colours seem to mark quite easily so we have to be really careful with dusting our shelves. This happens with the matte paints but I didn't want a sheen on my cabinets so went for regular matte paint. But the positives are the paint paints really nicely lol hope that makes sense. But it goes on the walls nice and dries quickly and the colours are spot on :D

I absolutely love how the room looks. You did a great job. I shop West Elm as well and have rugs and the same coffee table from them. May I ask you who the carpenter was for the book shelves, etc? We need this done at the moment, and as lockdown is easing up, we want to book someone good in, and I love what he did, especially over the fireplace. We live in Surrey, so hopefully he would come to us too! Many thanks!

ahhh thank you so so much! We found the carpenter on Mybuilder.com and his name is Marco. He was really helpful in drawing up the bespoke panelling above the fireplace and gave us the look we wanted :D

what a beautiful dark blue paint color> is it water based paint or oil and what is the finish matte, egg shell, semigloss ? and the color and brand . and the pale grey wall color as well thank you

its water base matte paint. the blue is Valspar 'deep space echo" on the blue wall and "shetland sweater' on the grey wall. I tried out the eggshell but the valspar eggshell was still too shiny for me! I like things ultra matte but the downside is it does scuff. we rarely move any objects on the shelving so its not a huge issue and they can be wiped out with a cloth.

Looks fab! I am furnishing my living room soon and have been suffering over the sofa re comfort and durability. i was looking at West Elm last night. How are you liking the sofa, and which one is it?

Kelly Kosmala how fab! We went for the Andes sofa and it’s 9 months old and I sit on it all day every day at my office desk coffee table and there is not the slightest dent or wear in the sofa. It is so durable but looks so chic still. Also love how deep the seat is we can both lie on the sofa together. Also I’ve seen more recently they’ve brought it out in sofa bed style where the back flattens and it becomes a double bed. It is one of our hardest working prices of furniture and I’d give it 10/10

Your living room is just breath taking beautiful lol!! I am so obsessed with that dark blue built-in wit the touches of gold and pink 😍😍!!! This space is magazine worthy!!! Oh and I just love how rustic and timeless the floors came out!! It literally looks like it could be the top cover for West Elm!!! I had to subscribe after seeing this transformation!!!

I like how you left some of the tar paint, I really do not see the need for all these people trying to make these older properties immaculate by removing all signs of their lived-in history!

ahh thanks so much! I really do love the rustic feel to it. Unfortunately some of the floor boards are rotten they have big gaping holes in them so when we do our full refurb we will probably have to cover them up:(

It's a great makeover, but I'm totally baffled the brand new shutters aren't mentioned at all in the video or description box?? Did you fit them yourselves? We are getting bay shutters done in our similar shaped living room, and they are just under a grand with fitting. To me they really make the room, you should definitely give some details on them! : )

The reason I didn’t mention them is because we actually had a really difficult experience with the brand we bought them from and I try to remain positive in my videos instead of complaining about the bad stuff 😃 and yes ours were that price as well we couldn’t find anything any cheaper than that. Around the £1k mark seems to be the going rate.

Katie Apple we almost went with John Lewis ones which were around the same price but the wait time was weeks and we were in a hurry. In the end the wait time turned out to be the same. So if you haven’t explore the JL route definitely check them out. As a business I’ve always found them to be reliable and helpful xx
