We got to feed the Groupers off the cost of Cozumel, where one, only about 3-4' long, snuck up and grabbed the bag of food from my hand...wow, I never made that mistake again. We went down about 110' on the wall. Sadly a couple passed away from overreacting. Not a place for anyone who overreacts. Thank you for the video, it brought back many memories of diving around the world.

remember when it was $35 round trip . in the winter you'd definitely want to be inside its freezing out on deck . worth noting the Garibaldi is the California state fish . also some amazing camping on other parts of the island by permission only private farmlands ,, the diving and fishing is on a different level away from the tourist

I remember in the 90s we were told to not take with us a stone, or a shea shell, nothing and everything was protected, well in 2018 mases of stones from the cliffs are being torn down by men making seals not have much room to hang by the rocks. It was very sad to see the island that was once so protected now going under so much destruction.

If you get seasick, go by Helicopter. I took Catalina Express and was miserable. When we arrived, I grabbed a hotel room and was sick until evening.

No snorkel? No snorkeling. The diving knife goes in the inside of your foot, not on the outside, that way you can reach it with any hand in case of emergency. Never dive alone.

When I was a teen I went snorkeling for the first time in Catalina and all I remember was cold water, dark water, algae, lots of algae going down idk how far down, and it would freak me out swimming in it because it would touch our bodies. Not a great experience, not a lot of fish that I can remember. I did see Plankton under a microscope and petted baby sharks so that was nice.

Camping anywhere in Catalina is a "leave no trace" camp... meaning, you can't even leave your poop there.

You can go to Catalina from San Pedro, Long Beach or Newport Beach.

Catalina tries to keep Catalina as it was 1000 years ago. Water is always in short supply and many tropical plants are not suited to the natural, semi-arid Channel Islands. There are no water pipes coming from the mainland. Invasive plants and animals are a constant battle.

@@gymshoe8862 I don't know if sorry is the right comment. I appreciated your direct comment, not harsh, but true. It didn't seem like he was happy or having fun. I teach my kids to say: f um if they don't like us, as we do RIGHT! We should never be afraid of caring TRUGH. I applaud you as it didn't seem derogatory to me at all, and seemed like it needed to be said, so this man could maybe make them a bit more happy or like he was truly having fun, then they become so much better, and I liked his comment also. The rules are incredibly stupid It is insane on what you’re not allowed to do while camping anymore looks like this is just a tourist trap to take your money with two or three minutes of hot water in your shower that’s just crazy yeah I don’t think I want to camp in Catalina island
