My wife and I went to Catalina to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. We had a great time - including a bus tour of the island. We even ate lunch at the airport! However, we did not anticipate the high winds in the afternoon. Our scheduled boat ride back to Dana Point was cancelled due to the high choppy water. We returned to our hotel and they had a room available. So, we got to enjoy another night on Catalina. 8-)

What camera did you use for the underwater footage?

NEVER dive next to the Casino due to all the pollution. Instead, dive on the back of the island, or much further north of Avalon, or further out on a boat.

You can also go from Dana Point, CA. Or fly via helicopter from Long Beach to Pebbly Beach near Avalon.

A "POINT TO PONDER;" The closer you get to the Equator, the color of the wildlife/fish is less brilliant. I believe 🤔the water temperature is the determining factor. MUCH LOVE FROM GUAM !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Just a friendly note about the Garibaldi orange fish. They are Tha state of California's state marine fish. Your not allowed to have in your possession if anyone was thinking about fishing for them. They are a protected species.

Had a wonderful group trip to Catalina in the 80s to Campus by the Sea Christian camp. We went by small boat from Avalon to the waterfront camp. It was like you were 1000 miles from the urban sprawl of Los Angeles in a peaceful, natural world. Took a hike up the hills looking for the buffalo, only found droppings. The silence was amazing. So glad to see that Campus by the Sea is still in operation.

In the 70’s I used to scuba dive about five miles from the island. We used to see Blue Sharks. They were very timid, but courteous. We had fun with the sea lions. I miss those days. Living in Northern Idaho now 1/2 mile from the largest like in Idaho. Loving it, but no longer scuba dive……….

Please think about how your video will increase tourism in Catalina and degrade the experience for visitors and locals. I suggest that you share all the things you did there...but please do not tell people where you were. Imagine hundreds of visitors sharing that little campground or divers invading the pristine dive spots you enjoyed.

Best NOT to post this stuff. Everyone always telling the tourists where to go. Just enjoy it yourself and let others discovery things on their own, it's part of the adventure.

Very comprehensive and no fluff. Great to watch if you are wanting to go. Also for those of us elders yes, extra good sleep pad and bag on wheels..never would have thought of those, never needed in my youth. Guy goes alone to Hermit Gulch, LOL.

Nice video. A dive knife isn’t needed for Giant Kelp. You can fold it in half and it will snap, you can bite it and you can simply pull it out. The trick is to stay calm, assess the situation and determine the best course of action. A knife on your calf does increase entanglements inside or out (I wear mine inside when freediving, and it does sometimes catch some kelp). Best bet is to have a pocket for it added to your wetsuit from someone like Otter Bay Wetsuits.

We used to own one of those cute little cottages in Catalina, and we frequently took our skipjack or Wailer from marina del Ray to Catalina with the family. Best snorkeling is at emerald bay, just a short boat ride from Avalon. Twin harbors is cool also.

I enjoyed watching your adventure to Catalina. Diving there was very similar to how the La Jolla Cove and Children’s pool were the the early 80’s before they allowed the seals and Sea lions to take it over. All those same creatures were there, even the big Bass, as it was a preserve. No longer tho.
