For the past 20 years I have worn this watch each day every day. People will ask me about it, either they know what it is and want to take look at it or are curious about it. I highly recommend it, a classic, never goes out of style.

Im looking at buying a speedmaster possibly as a first luxury watch. Would you recommend going with the hesalite or sapphire crystal model? Everyone seems to have different opinions so just curious what you have been wearing

@@PTR2K the Sapphire Sandwich version allows you to see the movement. The Hesalite version is what was worn on the moon but scratches more easily. Try on both in person to make your decision.

Great watch! I have a 68 speedy that was my Dad's, and I have the receipt and box from the day he bought it from Sayerville Jeweler's in Sayreville, NJ on Dec. 26th, 1968, same price $175 was on the receipt!

Teddy, this was forever my dream watch. The looks are just insane to me. My wife gave it to me (sapphire version) to commemorate our first child. It’s been almost a year since our baby was born. Every time I look at this watch asides from an incredible reminder in our lives, it also takes my breath away. I still love it. Great video.

@@nemanjamanutd i gave her a watch as well. Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Ladies' 34mm Automatic White Mother Of Pearl Dial Diamonds. I know she did it all I told her multiple times send it back! But she wanted me to have my dream watch to always remember our first child.

I was a kid when they first walked on the moon. Those full page/full color Omega ads in LIFE magazine had a profound impact on my young self. Not quite the impact of Raquel Welch taking an outdoor shower in 100 Guns, but still.....

For as long as I've been into watch collecting, I've wanted to get a Speedmaster. I probably tried it on 4 different times at various AD's to try to enjoy it, but the bracelet and wearability just did not do it for me. A couple of weeks ago I went in to try this new 3861 on, and if anyone here has one or has tried it on, it is a VAST improvement in wearability. The METAS certification on the 3861 and bracelet update finally put the nail in the coffin and I pulled the trigger yesterday and am now the proud owner of my first Speedmaster, in the Sapphire Sandwich variant. I love this thing

Same here tried in a few times for so many years, but happened to looked at it while on my vacation, new movement, Co - Axial Master Chronometer, METAS Certification 15,000 gauss Anti Magnetic. Took it home. Very accurate with a Deviation of Chronometric Precision between 100% and 33% of Power Reserve = 0.1 seconds per day. Best Vacation, even took a swim with it. LOL

Well, Omega X Swatch succeeded with me. I never really paid any attention to Omega. The Moonswatch Speedmaster arrived and cought my attention. Never got one, but it pulled all my attention to the Speedmaster Professional. Been shopping for that one great watch for my 50th. The Hesalite Professional will be it. Nice work Omega!!!

Same here! I bought one Omega a while ago and it was a Seamaster, and just because it was a limited edition. After the Omega X Swatch I am starting to pay attention to the Moonwatch and may even buy one now . People were wondering why Omega would allow this collaboration... now I am starting to think it's because they knew some Omega X Swatch buyers would end wanting the real thing too so they could have both.

You will love it !🙂 I love my hesalite it feels like great on the wrist and the dome profile makes it really lovely. Btw you can put those new super thin 0.1mm self healing TPU film on the hesalite, it's virtually invisible to the naked eye and doesn't affect the opacity at all. Super cheap and easy too. I've owned my Speedmaster for over 25 years and only recently had it overhauled by a highly skilled watchmaker for $400. Looks better and runs better than when I bought it. Worth more than when I bought it. Thanks Omega for making such a great watch! Still hoping THE first moon watch lost in the mail will find its way to my mailbox in TX.

I love the vintage look of hesalite but I replaced mine with the sapphire sandwich. So happy with my decision. The sapphire case back is absolutely stunning 👍

Thanks for the wrist shot! I have basically an identical wrist measurement, 6.25 inches, 160 cm, 50 mm across, and I was really apprehensive about pulling the trigger on this watch because I was worried about the size.

Brilliant watch. If I were to make changes to the previous model, these are the changes I could make. I love that Omega decided to 'evolve' the watch rather than completely overhaul it. The stepped dial, bolder hands and tapered bracelet took an iconic watch and made it better. The 3861 movement modernized it for the 21st century. If I could only have one watch, this would be it.

I bought this for myself recently. It is my first chronograph... and I absolutely love every part of this piece. I got the sapphire sandwich because I like the luxurious look, plus I love to look at the movement as it's a gorgeous movement. I know it's still new, as the watch is weeks not months old, but it's by far my most worn watch right now. I love it. I love the overall look and the balance between brushed and polished finishing. I couldn't recommend this watch highly enough

Great video to pop up on a Speedy Tuesday! I especially appreciate the personal comments regarding Teddy's experience with the new bracelet. Thoughtful, measured and interesting commentary as always. I appreciate the mention of the Hamilton Chrono H as part of this discussion. It's definitely helpful to mention what, for some, would be a more attainable luxury chronograph when discussing the Speedmaster. Now the real question, do I NEED another Speedy? The Hamilton?.....Both?

Had a Hesalite since January. Owned many variants over the years. The new one is the best looking, most comfortable and most accurate of any I’ve had experience with.

I own a 3590.50 with the old (fantastic) tapering 1479 bracelet, and this is the first Speedy since then that I think is a compelling enough upgrade in technology without downgrading wearability like the last gen bracelet did. Makes me want to pick one up. Only thing I could ask for is 1-2 more micro adjustment slots on the clasp and some tritium lume (I know, just a dream) so I can watch it patina over the coming decades.

I’ve had my Speedy Pro for about 32 years, it’s the 20th anniversary edition of the moon landing. It’s S/N 661 of 2000. I couldn’t believe it when my wife gave me the ok to get it back in 1990. Great wife! Recently had it serviced and it runs perfectly. I’d recommend this watch to anyone who appreciates a great and timeless timepiece. I like the Hesalite with the Omega in the middle.

Let's not forget that one of the watches George Daniels retrofitted with a coaxial escapement back when he was trying to sell it to watch manufacturers, was an cal. 861 speedmaster, so it seems fitting Omega finally made a production version of that very prototype.

I had an 1861 hesalite for a while that I just recently traded in. I really like the hesalite but wish it had a sapphire case back as that 3863 movement is stunning. I held the new hesalite version at a boutique and the step dial and the less busy outer track were definite improvements for me. I will probably pick up a new version at some point in the future.

In the late80s through early 2000s-ish they made a version with a hesalite crystal and sapphire caseback. Those are freaking cool, worth checking out. I think a nice one with box/papers only runs like $4500. Pretty sure there are tritium and luminova versions too. Only going to go up in value I think. I think they are ref 3592.50 with the gold (!!) finished 861 movement and 3572.50 with the 1861 movement

Another great video clearly identifying the changes from the outgoing model to the new one. I do not (yet) have a Speedy but I am not new to Omega. The change to co-axial along with the silicon balance spring is a big update, not only for out of the box accuracy but the longevity maintaining it, Service intervals are if I recall correctly are 5 years. A choice between the hesalite and the sapphire is not an easy one for me, my brain would say pay the extra for the sapphire sandwich for its better resistance to scratching and display case back to see that wonderful movement. My heart would say go with the hesalite. As for the bracelet and general wear ability I really appreciate your view, as with most things where someone finds a negative (anti) social media jumps all over it, far less so than when something is really well done. Given that we are all different shapes and sizes there are going to be times when something that is great for one person is a disaster for another. Keep up the great work Teddy.

I've owned the 42mm Speedmaster hesalite for nearly a year. To me this is a watch of a lifetime. I wear it almost every day, more than any other in my collection. Staying as true as possible to the original moon watch was a key factor in choosing the hesalite version.

I just got my SS on bracelet on 10.7.23 and I am very pleased with it. I have wanted a "Moonwatch" since the 70's and it looks like my timing is excellent. The 3861 with all its technical / mechanical advancements is amazing. The new 5 link melt on your wrist bracelet with the recently introduced on the fly micro length adjustment. The new stepped dial, lume, domed hands, dot over 90, etc... is close to perfection. I chose the SS because of the durability and the open case back. I love to look at the movement. I am very pleased. It set me back USD 8,000 and is a tremendous value. Oh, yeah did I say it is beautiful. A classy, humble beautiful.

I've had a FOIS and the previous generation Speedy Pro and this is the next watch I plan on buying. The bracelet just really completes the look of the Speedy and the new step dial is noticeable in person.

Took some time to examine both hesalite and sapphire against each other in an AD. Once I saw the milky perimeter around the dial which the sapphire gives, I couldn’t un-see it. Hesalite all the way for me. I like the co-axial upgrade. Thanks for the video.

Picked up the hesalite today from nyc boutique. Tried the saphire on also and the choice was easy after watching the light hit the hesalite the choice was easy. This is my first luxury watch purchase and i keep looking at it and smiling.

I have owned my speedy from 2010 (hesalite) the front still looks new, like mentioned polywatch will rid marks, but I have never ever felt "I wish omega would make a different movement" it runs great with the 1861 cal inside never had an issue, for me Omega did the change just to increase the cost of buying the watch, nothing worse for a company having a fantastic cheap watch in its collection.

I tried both 42mm versions on my 7” wrist today and also a 38mm too. I was really surprised how well the 42mm fitted on my relatively small wrist. The bracelet is super comfortable too. I’d probably go with the sapphire crystal over the hessalite as it makes the watch .5mm thinner plus you get to see the stunning movement through the back. At £7,400 it’s getting quite expensive here in the U.K. but I’m now officially in love with it so………

Omega have bumped their prices a lot over the last couple of years here in the U.K. I guess they would argue that the current Speedy is a technically better watch than it’s predecessor so…… For the record, I went hesalite in the end and very pleased with my choice. Got some discount too.

Owned a couple Speedy Pros in the past, love Omega and I love early Space Race so the Speedy is a win for me. I picked up a FOIS though in December and for me, it's the perfect Speedy. I absolutely love the straight lugs, no crown guard, etc. With that said, I can definitely see myself adding the hesalite 3861 Speedy down the road. Redundant? Yes, but my FOIS will likely go to my 3rd child coming in December 2021. Wore a different watch for the birth of my first 2 kids, so only fair the 3rd (and last!) gets a nice watch passed down too ;) So the Speedy 3861 will be mine to take to the grave!

I've always had been drawn to the Speedmaster through its combination of elegant simplicity and its historical ties to NASA space missions. Once I had the opportunity to pick one up, I was not disappointed. Love the way it looks and feels on wrist. Lovely understated and comfortable design aesthetics.

I have since 1999 a Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow. It has date @ 18.00 (six o`clock). Perfect watch which I almost wear daily. Had it serviced Jan 2022 for € 750.

Hesalite for sure - love the vintage look, understated and business-like with just a hint of flair! I remember the Apollo missions from my childhood and have always been enamored with that era. I'm not a collector - I simply want that one 'forever' watch that I can wear most of the time and feel great about. My dad had his Rolex; I'm planning on having my Speedmaster. :-)

Since I had already gotten my taste influenced and acquired by various media and fallen in love with my 3861, I wasn’t going to get influenced again by the watch communities about which version is more correct and looks better. I’d like to tell any potential buyers to also look at Speedy as a watch by itself minus hypes and the history.

Surprised the biggest visual differences of the sapphire and hesalite isn't mentioned, the milky ring on the former. It's definitely a factor to be taken into account, especially when placed side by side.

Got the sapphire model a few weeks ago to replace my first generation sapphire sandwich with 1863 movement. The two watches may look alike but the new one is, for me, significantly better. The 1863 always ran too fast for my taste but the new Speedy with the outstanding Co-Axial Master movement is running at 1 second fast per day with it being wound every other day. Omega finally added hacking to the Speedy which was also a major selliing point. It makes setting the time a breeze. My watch came with the quick adjust clasp which, even with only a one stop +/- adjustment, makes it easy to do it on the fly. I wasn't totally sold on the bracelet at first because it made the watch look less like a "tool" instrument. But after wearing it for a while, I love it. It lays flat on the wrist which contributes to the watch wearing smaller than its 42mm size. I wear the Speedy as dress watch sometimes and the bracelet gives it more of a clsssy look. All in all Omega hit the jackpot with the new version of this clsssic watch.

I've just bought the sapphire version on Nov. 2023 with the new micro adjustment clasp. However, the clasp has only one step. I think it's good enough to use when swapping from left hand to right hand. Previously, I've compared it with other fine competitors in the near price range for a few weeks, e.g. Chronoscope, Chronomat, Navitimer, Monaco, Carrera, Portugieser, and Black Bay. Finally I've found that the Speedmaster is the best choice for me, and manual winding every other day in the morning is not an issue.

Hi Teddy, I am a big fan of your channel. Your videos are well done and you obviously (to me at least) are extremely knowledgeable about watches. I want a new speedy now because of your vid. I already own a moon-watch purchased for me by my parents in 1975. And I recently bought another one. It is a reduced from the 90s which I equally love. For me, the one to buy is the Sapphire crystal. I have the original, and I have the smaller version, but the new one with the case-back display is awesome. Maybe the sharp edges of the bracelet are an unusual thing but youtubers that I respect have complained about it. So what do you think?

Love the new one. I had the 1861 Hesalite version which I belive was the best choice in that series because the sapphire had a horrible luminescent ring around the edge. But I never quite settled in with the Hesalite version and was very nervous of scratching it. The 3861 version is completely different, they've improved the Sapphire dramatically and its a pity Teddy never discussed this point. No more strange luminescent ring. I'm definitely going Sapphire sandwich this time, its far more practical for daily wearing and the polished bracelet looks amazing, plus I love looking at that movement!

As someone who wears the 1861 I can say these watches are not nearly as delicate as some think they are. Polywatch can easily take care of scuffs on the hesalite and I straight run it under the sink to wash it off. It has held up well over time with no issues whatsoever

Going with the sapphire because of the scratch resistance and the display back. Tough decision, though. I do like the vintage look of the Hesalite and somewhat prefer the all-bushed bracelet and (of course) the lower price of the other one. The fact that it has a new movement and a different crystal material than the one that was actually on the moon does not weigh very heavily for me... I prefer the upgrades.

The only reason I have ever wanted a Rolex was because I wanted the comfort of a jubilee bracelet. This new bracelet got rid of those thoughts, the bracelet is flawless.

Own the Hesalite version for two reasons, wanted the authenticity of the original, and secondly because the sapphire distorts the watch face around the perimeter. The sales guy at Omega was kind enough to show me the difference and the Hesalite definitively showed better.

I love my hesalite 3590.50. But it does hold me back from making it a 24/7 beater, big gashes in the hesalite are annoying to look through. Hairline hesalite scratches don't bother me and neither do case dings. These new ones make me wonder if a modern sapphire version with the new and more robust movement could be just bullet proof enough to be the perfect rough wearing companion to it

I can confirm at least from my few days of having the Sapphire version that the "Sharpness" is WAYYYY over played. I don't have context on what they felt like before, but if this "rumor" wasn't around before I wouldn't have even thought to comment on it. 0 wrist dig on my ~6.5in wrist

My experience is that the edges are very sharp. If you compare it to the old speedy and even a Reduced, it is quite sharp. However, having said that, you dont feel it it at all when you have it on your wrist. It is only if you take it off and purposefully run your finger over it, do you feel it. It is not dangerously sharp, but its there.
