We have to be careful not to confuse empathy with sympathy. Master Sol only cares about his own emotions and not Osha and everyone else's feelings. He made a lot of assumptions, and that lead to him having sympathy for Osha. That sympathy came more from him understanding his own emotions. That's not empathy. Masters Indara even told him, "Do not confuse what Osha wants with what you want." Empathy is when you understand other people's emotions, but empathy is not an emotion, it's an understanding. Sympathy is an emotion.

It's made even more tricky because the coven legitimately was attempting to hold Osha there and Osha legitimately wanted to leave despite their desire to keep her as their religious figure. He may have his own faults in the situation with lying to Osha about his mistakes (him attacking Aniseya is more complicated because she was using power he wasn't familiar with and he responded defensively), but that doesn't make Aniseya (for attacking Torbin's mind and increasing tension between the groups), Torbin (for recklessly instigating conflict in a selfish ploy to get out of his mission), Sol (for mixing his valid concerns for Osha's safety with his own affinity towards her, eventually prioritizing their relationship over her agency), Koril (for riling up Mae and the other witches into becoming hostile), Mae (for being so jealous and domineering towards her sister that she'd threatened to kill her for wanting to not be a part of the coven) and Indara (making the conspiracy in the first place to clean up after Torbin and Sol's mess rather than them facing the counsel) are all at fal to som

Unlike most other fans, I don't have any major problems with The Acolyte as a show, I'm just happy to be able to see more of "The Galaxy far, far away", no matter what form that it may come in. I do think some things about the direction of the show are absolutely ridiculous though, and the biggest one is the approach being taken for the relationship between Osha and Mae. I'm not even going to try and scratch the surface of the more complex issues between them because I'm not getting paid to write this, but I have to point out at least the main thing that bothers me. It's Mae's view (at least the one she had as a child) that she and her sister should "share everything". I understand that they were supposedly split from one consciousness, but Mae is essentially trying to say that the correct way to live life is to live an identical life to her sister. I 100% side with Osha on that issue, she wants to have her own things, she wants to make her own decisions, she wants her own personality, identity, and she wants her own life. She should, she absolutely should want and have those things. The fact that Mae thinks that is wrong tells me that there is something fundamentally off with Mae, to the point that I'd potentially classify it as a legitimate mental illness, or possibly a major psychological issue. What really bothers me is that (at least in some smaller ways) the show tries to frame things in a way that both sides have valid points, but in this case, in this specific case, they don't. Osha is right and Mae is completely wrong in the way they want to identify themselves. Now Osha isn't always right of course, her misplaced faith in the Jedi is a shining example of that, but most people can at least relate to her in some ways. She wants to get out of her little bubble and "see the world" so to speak, and she sees the Jedi order as potentially her only realistic way of doing that; and I cant entirely blame her for that, she was/is a child/very young after all. I could probably rant a while longer but it doesnt seem worth the time or effort, I just wanted to point out something I saw as so odd.

One thing to note also is that there has been clues that Sol does not really have nearly as strong connection to Osha as he thinks. There has now been several moments in the series where Sol confuses Osha for Mae, whereas by comparison, Qimir has always been able to tell which one is which.

Thank you again for doing what a KZfaqr should do. Break it down and make predictions and not just crap all over it in bad faith. You’ve said you don’t love the show and that’s fine, it’s not the greatest show I’ve ever seen, but it’s Star Wars. As someone who saw Empire in the theatre and who waited 16 years for any new Star Wars content (sorry, the books and comics just don’t do it for me) I’m happy to see any new content. I also saw how Return of the Jedi was the end of Star Wars because of the Ewoks. Then how Star Wars was ruined because of the prequels. How animated “kids” show destroyed the franchise, how Disney ruined everything and now how Acolyte now destroyed it too. No one hates Star Wars more than Star Wars fans. Whichever one you started with is the greatest and flawless and everything after is the worst. Thank you for what you do.
@LeaderOfTheLostSouls

L take to not like the books and comics. Bruh who said the animated shows ruined Star Wars? Almost everyone loves them, expect for some lame ones later like resistance. I don’t think this way, the first one I saw was episode 1 which I loved but it isn’t my favorite, and the last thing won’t always be the worse cuz I loved andor so this is just a gross generalization and just dumb Whiny shit. Star Wars fans are mad cuz they want good content and they want to enjoy the series they love but we keep getting shit, that’s the issue not to say there are just haters now too ofc. This show is trash that is a fact, and you can break it down and explain why it’s shit there is nothing wrong with that, Gen Tech just wants to be more positive which is fine even when I disagree with him. I suggest you check out Thor Skywalker he’s a great guy who’s critical of new Star Wars yet he is not so hateful he tries to be fair.

@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls my point was more that when new stuff comes out it gets bashed until times passes and then it’s seen as good (or great). I’m sure on another 10 years the sequels will be seen as masterpieces. I’m not saying that I love all of the new stuff. Even Andor was panned when it first came out and now it’s the best Star Wars since….(insert your favorite here). I guess I’m being critical of SWT (I unfollowed) because he would rate episodes as a 0 or negative numbers and just bash anything and everything. My KZfaq feed was just full of him having a hissy fit. I get it dude you don’t like it move on. (Him not you). I think the acolyte is ok. I wanna see how the wrap it all up and honestly, since I don’t read all the books, which most aren’t cannon anyhow, I don’t care if they break from the old EU. I just wanna watch a show, have some fun, think a little bit about how not applies to my life, ethics, politics or whatever. I like watching breakdowns like GT’s that make me think even more. All of the stuff happening right now just seems so toxic. I know it was after episode 1, the Jar Jar actor almost committed suicide, but it just feels so much more in my face this time.

@@LeaderOfTheLostSouls Billtuba didn't say those things ruined Star Wars... He is saying that there have always been people that complain when any new media is added to the Star Wars universe. I also saw the originals in theatre (ROTJ), and yes older fans did in fact get upset that Ewoks were in Return of the Jedi, I was very young but I remember it. When the prequels then the animated series came out people were also outraged, it happens constantly within a certain part of the fanbase. The Acolyte IS good and lots of people enjoy it. What I personally didn't get into were the animated series, that just wasn't for me, but that's fine, not everything in a franchise needs to cater to everyone, I certainly don't begrudge those that do like it. There's enough stories for everyone to find something they like, just let people enjoy what they do and you can enjoy what parts you do, know what I mean?

@@Billtuba Sometimes not always, and No the sequel trilogy should never be seen as good let alone a fucked masterpiece if you think then you are delusional illiterate fucken moron don’t ever say that fucken stupid shit ever again, it’s already bad enough we have idiots who defend those awful movies I can cut slack to those causals who turn their brains off and just enjoyed it cuz they don’t look too much into it yet I don’t like those pseudo intellectual morons who defend the story and characters as if it is good at all when it is almost completely awful dogshit so do not get me fucken start on this shit. Sorry but that pissed me off. There is a difference between enjoyment and quality so I can cut some people slack but it pisses me off when morons argue bad shit is actually good. Andor is a different situation is probably closer to the prequels situation than sequels. Andor was first seen as why tho cuz it was about a side character but when it came out people loved it cuz of how good it was mostly, the issue was it came out after many were unhappy with Star Wars so many didn’t even bother watching it which is why it was panned. But there is a group of idiots who say it isn’t Star Wars cuz they have a basic dumbass view of the series which is similar to the idiots who complained about the politics of the prequels even tho it’s well written and enhances the world, maybe they will come around idk. SWT? Who? Where did this come from cuz I ain’t talking about it so why bring it up? You mean Star Wars Theory? Idk what he is doing atm tbh L take on the books and EU, lazy af tbh. Coming from me who doesn’t read much but I can listen to audio books or someone reading it on KZfaq or videos explaining shit. You need to think more on your own tbh cuz you just get stuff spoon fed to you it sounds like tbh but I get enjoying videos like this yet I don’t vibe with you at all. Yeah I don’t agree with the fans who gave tons of hate to the actors I feel bad for them and that was uncalled toxicity. Back then the internet was young and so were you so you didn’t see or know about it much but now you’re older and information comes so easily so it is in your face more not to mention after awful content after awful content along with disrespectful directors and such is has brought the fans to a darker place due to this, plus the divide since modern politics was brought into the series by KK it made it more toxic and personal, I don’t like it either but it’s not the fans fault it got this way.

@@PrettyTigerlilly Yeah that is true, while I enjoyed the Ewoks subjectively I can admit objectively they are silly and off that they easily kill stormtroopers so I get why some hate it yet I don’t think it’s a big deal cuz even if it’s silly it doesn’t ruin the movie. I never heard or seen anyone get pissed at the animated series tbh if they did then they are retards for sure. Prequels I get it was very different and they had their flaws but the pros outweighed the cons if you look at it closely it was actually good trilogy not perfect by any means ofc. The Acolyte IS NOT GOOD only morons think that or the normies who don’t think too hard on it, there’s way too many issues in the writing like basic logical mistakes, lore breaks, and more to say it is good but you can enjoy it if you want that’s your subjective enjoyment yet don’t come to me saying it’s actually good cuz it is not objectively good by any means, just a few good things does not overshadow all the shit. What I hate isn’t people enjoying it cuz even trash can be enjoyed by some we all have guilty pleasures but what I really hate is morons who think they are right and smart so they defend trash like a bunch of pseudo intellectuals. It’s a shame you can’t get into animated series that’s L. I feel bad you cannot enjoy it. People can enjoy whatever they want no one is stopping you but your opinions are not shields they can be criticized and the series are not good just cuz some like it this is illogical, if it is bad it can be broken down and explained why it is bad in a more objective manner on its writing quality and how it is as a piece of the verse, many just enjoy to rant about it cuz it is good to let it out but it is ofc not the best way to go about it. I get what you mean but I don’t agree fully.

I suspect it will be an open ending, you know something that says season 2 will finish the story. I suspect it because of episode 7 being purely used for a flashback, instead of setting up the ending, like most shows with a closed ending would use their second last episode on.

The kind of "love" that Mae has for Osha is Not the kind of love I'd ever want. Real love is based on genuine care & concern for another's well being over your own. Real love is respectful, it is not self centered, it does not seek to subvert the will & desires of those it claims to care for. Mae does not truly love her sister. Her love is the possessive, needy, boundary stomping, codependent type of "love" that is toxic. She reminds me of my Borderline P.D. mother.
@callmev3531
@callmev3531 Ай бұрын
It;s unfortunate that there are instances where Aniseya and Sol show this kind of love in contrast to Mae's jealousy, only for them to attempt to re-contextualize Sol as being similarly possessive and caring more about his relationship to Osha than her agency, before in turn having Mae suddenly switch to a loving, respectful sister without any meaningful build up to that change in her character, no real moment where she listens to Osha rebuke her for her treatment of her domineering treatment of her as children, her dismissal of her as her own person, at most just apologizing about starting the first that somehow destroyed a mostly stone and metal structure Compare this to Wandavision or Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, where Wanda is forced to confront her malevolent behavior and is stripped of any means to excuse or defend her depraved actions. Her memory being wiped further's the notion that Mae will never be given a time to confront her own actions and will simply be treated as the victim of others, nothing more. Generally speaking, these types of characters that are treated as victims and are therefore justified in committing terrible acts is a deeply flawed model of character writing, as having explainable motivations does necessarily mean they are also justifiable or not worthy of criticism, something these writers do not seem interested in exploring.

No I don’t want season 2 bc I don’t want them to ruin Yoda. I be honest overall the show is horrible and writing is so bad. The only saving grace is the fighting but the episode 3 and 7 just ruin the whole show.

The Story it self is good, the way they constructed the entire show is a very big mess... the actress that portreits Osha and Mae is a compleat mess, she really was the weaker bound of the show, and is miles away of characters with far less screnn time. I liked the kids they were fine, but the other one was bad. I think that this series could be far better if it was a film, their directors made it as if it was a film, or so it feels.

Yeah, looking back Osha's always been selfish, always drawn to the dark, she didn't want to join the jedi because she wanted to be a jedi, she just wanted something of her own. Mae, on the flipside has always been selfless, yes she wanted her sister to stay, but that was as much for the greater good of the coven as for herself.

Yup, I am honest to say I did not see Osha being the "bad one" coming but EP6 really question me once she put on that helmet. I was like, wtf is she doing? The writing for the show is really good when its so subtle.

I've been stunned this entire show how accurate your predictions have been. I'm pretty sure I remember you guessing that Qimir was going to be the Sith like on episode 1 or 2 and that was amazing and now you've basically gotten this one right too. And honestly I think your version would have been better with me dying rather than this weird goodbye no way home memory loss thing. Does actress would be much better as one character in season 2 but it looks like they're going to keep the twin thing going

Close enough! Thanks for such a contemplative analysis all along. Lots of flaws in the production of this series - but the basic story was/is actually solid. If they had told it in 3-4 longer episodes & released all at once - with some better writing - it would have been a so much better experience. But I also understand these heavier themes are not really what most Star Wars fans want to see.

I'm genuinely wondering if there's an issue with Ohshi. She never ascended where as Mae did. If they are the same person, split through the force. Then Maes ascension is an imbalance in the force.

I really like this theory. And it really solidifies my sympathy for May. May was a child when she accidentally set the coven on fire. May seems like she years for her sister OSHA, since they are essentially the same being. OSHA tured her back on her family on tradition. Idk. My sympathy has shifted back and forth through out this series.

Basically a Jedi who falls to the dark side is a wolf in sheep’s clothing and if you’re blind you don’t see it coming. A reminder to be critical of those invested with authority in our communities and those groups that are vested with positions like churches. A reminder how the individual and the group interact

I think we've seen the tragic flaw in Master Sol building across the episodes, while Qimir seems to be transforming from fool to a Master in his own right. I really like your depiction of the twist that has been placed on the force in this series-- It looks like the Light is the bad side while the Dark is coming off being controlled and rational. Another great analysis and I'm really looking forward to tonight's episode.

All Acolyte series is doing is introducing harsh reality in an otherwise idealistic saga based on the values of one man George Lucas who was very idealistic. Star Wars when first came out brought positive thoughts in a time when things weren't so great. And needed inspiration and hope. But nonetheless it was idealistic. Perhaps too idealistic. So when the Empire Strikes Back came out, people Loved it. Because it mirrors reality. Good doesn't always win out. At least not right away. And nothing is just black and white. Acolyte is a lot like empire strikes back and revenge of the sith it's reality of what the world is. And Acolyte takes it step further. It shows the great Jedi are flawed like any other person. And are capable of doing evil without knowing it. And the Sith who are the villains are capable of nobility and kindness. Once in a while. He who does good most of their life does evil despite good intentions does more damage than one who does evil continuously. great video. Thought provoking.❤
