Temporary tough spot is a really good point -it is a temporary spot - lately I have been using the mantra "wouldn't it be nice if..." I also try to smile more

First of all, you're a beast, Floris! I find you to be very encouraging and motivating. I was running the Honolulu Marathon in 2017 and the high humidity was not something for which I was very prepared. I was exhausted, cramping, and out gas on mile 18. I overcame the mental and physical block with the help of what I call words of affirmation such as, "you got this, Max! There's no stopping now! One step at a time! This thing's got nothin' on you, dude!" And of course some salt and sugar helped too. Love how you approach things with a great attitude. A positive attitude is the greatest catalyst in challenging circumstances. My goal is to one day qualify for Boston. I have a long way to go, but I'm glad I follow a community of great runners and encouragers like you. You're keeping me motivated on Strava, too. Thank you for creating great content.

My biggest lesson that I learned from my training and races has been making everything playful. By telling myself jokes and reciting funny movie lines keeps it positive and having a more positive attitude. This also helps me keeping in a state of flow where time flies by. Great video Floris! Have been sharing some of your videos to other fellow runners

I felt the pain in my right quad at mile 22 after climbing a bridge on my last marathon. After mile 24 I almost stopped to walk (time 916 for mile 25 )and realized the pain only became worse and knew I would not finish if I walked. I picked up the pace and ran my last mile in 850. The pain went away the harder I pushed. It definitely came back with a vengeance when I crossed the finish line though !

Wow! I have had all same things happen - including Boston experience 2018 - 35 marathon last 43 months including 100 milers. One most memorable was a 50k - at 24 miles leg cramps so bad couldn’t move! Somehow got moving again finishing 1st in age group - keep moving!!!

In my half marathon, I told myself, “I’ll just run the next water station as fast as I can.” 😅 I ended up finishing the half @ 2:18:16.

Hi Floris, Great video. I tripped on a piece of wire at about 1 km into a 14 km fun run. I went flat out on the bitumen and skinned both knees, hips and hands. It was hilarious - in hindsight. I picked myself up and washed off some of the grit and blood at the next aid station and kept on going. Not a PB on that one but I was laughing to myself the whole way as I can imagine how funny it would of looked to everyone else. (:

Well it's true.Your a real wolf.I'm a wolf.Been running since forever .Ran today. Not near as fast or as talented as other wolves but I get there.I'm 58 now.Its all relative.Compared to most 58 year olds I'm world class. Which is actually totally pathetic.Compared to a real runner I should have taken up golf all these decades. But you speak what can ONLY be learned through experience.I know it when I see it .And I totally see it.
