@@YohDood no prob, i really mean it. i've heard the rock paper scissor analogy for over 20 years but excellent way of articulating it. i was explaining to some friends who still cry about fireball spammers. if you cant stop projectiles, I have no reason to stop throwing them. conversely, i love spammers bc they are the easiest ppl to beat, rather "i know they will keep throwing rocks"

I have never played a fighting game before. I play COD, I mean I did....Im not a pro player by any means, but Street Fighter seemed to give me the Speed that Ive been missing by not playing COD. Ive played one match against a human player.....couldnt even figure out how to kick, but the speed was there!! Its a video like yours that will keep me trying! Thank you!!

@@YohDood a combo rhythm guide would be incredible. I'm sure I'm not alone in that I have dabbled with other fighters but want to get gud at SF6 but the combo timing feels very strange. Sometimes you need to immediately buffer the next action and sometimes you can only input during a 5 frame period. I have heard about links and cancels but any tips or tricks to understand combos in this game would be great. I want to learn how to do things the optimal way the first time so I don't need to unlearn bad behaviors down the road!

@@YohDood thanks for the encouragement! It took two matches to reach gold where I sit, and play casual mostly. I find that lots of Plat and Diamond players have weak defense, so I get my wins in with jump-ins, tick throws, etc. I’ve been manning Ken since World Warrior 1991, so I can’t pick another. But back in SF4 I a great Yun, Sagat, Rose, and a serviceable Cammy.

Thank you for this great video! I've got a question: I don't want to buy the game for 60 bucks and wait for a sale. But I still got USF4. Is it worth to continue practise there or is it pointless besides getting better there?
@YohDood
@YohDood Жыл бұрын
So the answer is Yes and No. There's a lot of SF4 in this game to me. I didn't play 5 much so I'm not sure whats comprable there. Drive impact and Drive Rush are comprible to a focus attack where DI is like the Focus attack move itself but you can't canel it once you do it. and DR is like doing an FADC on a normal attak. Ryu and Ken are completly different, Gief doesn't have Green Hand, Juri's fireballs are different. Guile is completly different. So like you can keep up with fundimentals playing SF4 instead, but the games aren't close to being 1:1. Buy Street Fighter 6 this game is vastly worth your money man.

To be fair, knowing when to do wake up super is also a skill. That doesn't mean every wake of super is valid or even 80% of them. But just because someone does wake up super, it doesn't mean that it's a scrub tactic. There are scrubs but there's no such thing as a scrub tactic. If it works then the person it's working on is the scrub.
@YohDood
@YohDood Жыл бұрын
There definitely are tactics I would consider scrubby and I would argue heavily against doing a wake up super, especially for newer players. Wake up supers will only ever take you so far in my opinion and having the tactic work only supports doing it more. Granted calling it “cheap” or “scrubby” might be a stretch but I don’t want people to get into this habit as they learn how to play the game. I wouldn’t call anyone a scrub who gets hit by a random super for a cheap win on ladder either. If I’m trying to pressure my opponent at the end of a round and they hit me with wake up super I’m not a scrub I just miss timed my meaty option or didn’t have the right reaction at the time, Ya know? “Knowing” when to wake up super is only applicable when your reactions are good enough. Lastly please understand that this video is intended for brand new fighting game players and won’t always be applicable to those who have some experience under their belt.
@RetroKid
@RetroKid Жыл бұрын
@@YohDood wake-up anything is the counter to someone who just insists on pressing buttons on your wake-up. Perfect example, I play Marisa and can autopilot standing forward as a meaty. It's not a move that can be cancelled, but it reaches far, so I use it. When my opponent wakes up with anything and hits me, it's my fault because I was pressing buttons. Wake-up is a valid option, Ume-Shoryu/flashkick is proof of that. Edit: Meaties are not invulnerable to frame 1 invincible wake-up moves, so when your meaty loses, it's not because you timed it wrong, it's because your opponent saw you were doing something and countered with something that was invincible.
@YohDood
@YohDood Жыл бұрын
Fair point. I just think it’s a slippery slope to use a wake up super at all. desperation becomes habit after a while. It IS an answer but I wouldn’t say it’s a good one. On the second note though am I not supposed to keep pressure on? Just do a move and let neutral refresh. I agree that being predictable and only pressing buttons on Oki is also a bad habit, and that a wake up super would be justifiable if my opponent has proven to only throw rock. But in that situation I wouldn’t call it a random super and instead call it a read or reaction (depending) I think we’re agreeing here for the most part and arguing about semantics. I really do appreciate the input. Thanks for your comment!
@RetroKid
@RetroKid Жыл бұрын
@@YohDood slippery indeed, which is why it's kinda difficult to pigeonhole something as a bad habit when there are hard reads that result IN a wake-up move or super. If someone uses wake-up super and the opponent is standing half screen away doing nothing, that's a bad move. But if while you're waking up and your opponent throws a fireball as a meaty, and I know my super can invincible through it, then why wouldn't I do it. Good players buffer a motion just in case something happens. If they se, they've put themselves in a situation where they can react. If they don't see it, then they wake up and keep playing neutral.

In terms of WiFi opponents you can always turn down a fight request for any reason. I don’t play Wi-Fi players as a rule. In terms of the FGC, the community is important don’t get me wrong, but your enjoyment of the thing you’ve purchased is far more important than that. It’s okay to admit when something seems to be up your ally and it just wasn’t your thing. I’m so interested to play Tekken 8 but I know I won’t be getting it because I know how much frustration it is going to cause me. Most everything around you can be controlled and it’s okay to only enjoy these things as a spector too :)

Nah dude i dont get it either, there is no 100% right way to play a fg. Jwong is a player who does all the things he calls cheap in this vid and he got multiple evo titles under his belt. these are valid tactics to use if you think your opp is about to slip up or just not prepared. Keep exploting each players individual weaknesses and you will see great improvements in your game, no matter if its considered cheap or not.
@YohDood
@YohDood Жыл бұрын
Honestly; this was probably the most confusing I got. What I mean is not to overly rely on any one tactic to win a round. the fear is that a newer player will get overly reliant on it and form a bad habit, not that you should never use "Cheap" tactics, just that playing solid is a better way of learning the game in my opinion.
@YohDood
@YohDood Жыл бұрын
I mean, it depends on who you ask really. Cheap means something different to everyone. All I really wanted to get across is that new players don't over rely on the same tactic to win rounds when thier opponent is low on health. I get how I was confusing. sorry about that @_@

@@YohDood Ah dw honestly was a great vid and always happy too see people putting out resources for new players. Just thought that that part of the vid may be picked up in a wrong way and discourages people from trying around with tactics that arent seen as "conevntional". Like back in super turbo days people where saying spamming throw was cheap and dishonest or what people where saying about macros before it became a standard in the fgc.

My best advice is to follow your heart. Do what makes you the most confident and comfortable. Maybe give it a few reps in training. Play in non-ranked and see how you feel. If it’s something you want to pursue that peruse it! When I started playing FGs my best friend used the 360 controller. I had convinced myself I’d never get better without a fight stick. Now I play comfortable on one but I look at leverless and think do I need that? Ultimately I’d love to try leverless but I’m comfortable on my stick so that’s what I play on (unless I’m playing M-Gief, where I play on pad) That was long winded but ultimately the answer is give it a shot but if your in diamond you’re doing something right. Ya know? Do what works best for you and don’t worry about the pros too much yeah?
