I wouldn't call it a Golden Age, because the Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, and Renaissance have already happened. This is more like...Reconstruction.

I mean Golden age refers to the best and peak years. Which means the golden age can change. If the golden age for something was in 1974 and in 2040 it becomes an even bigger deal with even more advancements and growth the old golden age would be replaced would it not?

People be glazing big time this is not the golden age, the golden age happened a generation ago. The games we have now are just evolutions of what was already established prior. We don’t even have many new high quality ip fighting games to say it’s a golden age now. The big 3 are still at the top after decades.

Im still surprised that it took fighting game companies over 10 years since the realease of SF4 back in 2009 to finally make their games netcode decent enough to play anybody in the world with crossplay. Great editing too.

@@aratalzy I don't see why people keep crying, when they don't even have to buy the DLC, nor buy the game. I've been playing Fighting Games since Fatal Fury 1, back in 91-92, and Street Fighter, KOF, Guilty Gear, Tekken, BlazBlue, Soul Calibur, and DOA are games I've grown to love; let me not forget Samurai Shodown. I miss certain characters, too, but we have to face it: Not all characters will return in later instalments, and that's fine. People should just enjoy fun games.

I'd say we're in the netcode golden age, everyone other than SF6 and T8 seems to either be past their prime, stalling or dead. not to mention having content worth the price tag still isn't standard.

Had a lot of fun with SF6 and T8 and recently got Strive on the Steam sale, it's definitely a great time to have a fighting game addiction -now I just need DOA and VF to be back/good again and I'll be completely satisfied-

Well they did get majority of gameplay in tekken right the monetization is whats killing alot of the older fans and new ones as well like damn we cant lab against dlc. The reason for heihachi being dead is his va being dead too (rip) we all want the iron gramps back but we got stick with the new raging child of mishimas

A Golden Age? I think we are in a good era of fighting games but a golden age is a bit hyperbolic. There is some new ideas coming out from this era that might lead to something bigger down the road but as of right now? I just can't co-sign on this being any more than a solid good era.

i respectfully disagree this a good era for 2D fighters but is a very unoriginal era the games that are are exelent but the games that lack are sad what i mean is if you dont enjoy 2D style fighters with a big enphasis on neutral ur outluck outside of tekken where is soul calibur, virtual fighter DOA and 3D fighters as a whole, after both DBFZ and MVCI fail for not having good netcode u also lack of that degenerate team base fighters , platform fighters are also kinda dead ty nintendo thos dbags and WB fundle the back with multiversus , and for classic anime rep u got GG strive and granblue great games on there own but they are not pure anime as they are not anime dashers the only TRU to class fighter on the market is Undernight a game that is criminaly underated so in my opinion is a GOLDEN AGE of FG competitive but not a golden era of all fighting games just competitive 2v2 games the rest are still out of options.

Great video but it does scream I'm a younger dude (nothing wrong with that at all). Having grown up during Street Fighter 2's era and seeing everything it did and inspired (Fatal Fury, Killer Instinct, King of Fighters, Mortal Kombat, etc) plus being in the middle of it (going to arcades and playing casuals or in tourneys). That was and always will be the golden era of fighting games because it's when fighting games were born and innovation was at it's peak. Then it they kinda died after 3rd Strike for close to 10 years until SF4 came out and reinvigorated the genre. I would call that period the silver age and it never really died although there was a little bit of a lul there for a couple of years after SF5 came out (and had a horrendous launch). If anything I would say we're in the bronze age of fighting games when GG Strive made developers realize that Rollback was a necessary feature. Again, not a knock to you (you really had to be there to truly understand) and you're making great content so keep it up. I'm subscribing.

Wtf is bro wafflin about U can dislike Strive, but Samurai Showdown is a great fighting game with a strong emphasis on neutral and defensive mechanics with almost no combos at all. My point is "combos" being your only measurement of fighting game quality showcases a very limited mindset, I have to even question if u understand how these games(the best of them like tekken, 3rd strike etc.) r played at a high level.

@@neon-lake The reason I'm okay with Samsho not having combos is because EVERYTHING, from the story themes, to the characters, to the soundtrack, to the mechanics, to the movement and to the UI have been created around the idea of that zen-like, samurai flick inspired one-strike death duels. Strive is still wearing the skin of an anime fighter (very poorly, mind you) and the only compromise it made for gutting the mechanical depth and the combo and movement systems is giving characters unbelievably low HP.
