Hello! I discovered your channel a few years algo while I lived in Africa. I lived in a small town with bad internet so I actually downloaded a few of your videos. I love your explanations, your lifestyle videos and how you fight to promote a healthy body image. I live in Brussels now but after a knee injury the doctor told me I needed to be very careful. I signed up to a gym to strengthen my legs progressively. I started with pilates, yoga and aquagym. After a few months I found out that my pilates teacher also gave ballet. Since he knew about my injury, he actually allowed me to attend his ballet class and also gave me tips like no more than a demi plié, no jumping and no one foot balance. Since the confinement started, I started doing your easy ballet barre, pilates total body work out and 20 minutes leg tutorial every day. Thank you for this video!!! It's exactly what I need, specially, with the explanations about the steps on the side. Sorry for my mistakes. English is not my first language.

Important point for beginners: when she turns towards the barre she does not mean for you to do the same. Stay square, stay sideways to the barre and keep your leg behind you when going to the back. She does it to help you see her back leg (and to avoid the wall). There ARE advanced movements involving turns to or away from the barre but this is not what she intends here. (For an example of how such turns really can be used see Kathryn Morgan's intermediate/advanced barre rond de jambe exercise. Cheers!

My only requests would be to allow more time between the transitions from one side to the other so we at home have time to swing our chair around and get ready. Also, if Kathryn would use the proper ballet terms and names more frequently it would help beginners learn them, and old timers keep track of the steps.

i am impressed with the notes you said about "pressing into the heels" and pressing down in the slow plies, not many people know how important it is to have strong resistance in plies, it is the building block to good technique really
@esstown4 жыл бұрын
Yep! Without this resistance in the plie we have no shock absorption for landing or coming down out of anything. This resistance keeps us safe, and is much of what creates the illusion of effortlessness and weightlessness, which is the essence of classical dance.

The steps are clearly explained and are challenging without being difficult, the piano music is lovely and varied, the pace is excellent, and the delivery is helpful, engaging and has a lovely personal touch. Thank you very much. Lia (Switzerland)

Hey Kathryn, I just wanna thank you for the class. I made the whole class in my home, because my studio is closed by the covid 19. Greetings from Brazil!! You're so lovely teacher =**

As someone who is really uncomfortable with exercise, and with 0 dance experience, I really enjoyed this! I'm going to be honest, I didn't make it all the way through (my hips are so tight!) but I will definitely be back to go through it again!

What are you doing to help loosen your hips? I'm having real issues with that and my thighs.
@halleneyens98563 жыл бұрын
@@KikiAelita I've been doing a lot of Yoga with Adriene videos to do hip openers: lizard, pigeon, cobbler's, and frog poses have been particularly helpful!

After my second attempt, today I finished this class. I'm 50 and just started ballet classes 3 months ago. Kathryn:Thank you so much for this fantastic class. I feel so good !

Thank you so much for this! You lift the weight off my shoulders and make me feel so joyful to just dance! Back when at class i personally felt so pressed to do better that i couldn't, in effect, enjoy myself. Here, i can work my body and celebrate the small improvements. You gave me back the good part of ballet!

Loved this class, thank you so much! Your level of detail and the speed was perfect for a beginner like me, I'd definitely follow along if you did a whole series. Appreciate you making these for us

Thank you so much! 😍 Can't wait to do this tonight! With all these online classes I feel even busier than before 🙊. (Not that it is more class than normal, but planning for the classes in between work takes time 😅)

I've done this class about six times now (ABSOLUTE beginner, enjoy the art and like it as a workout) and I FINALLY got a good balance in coupe back! It's such tiny progress but I'm so pumped!

I hate exercesing (I have quitted a lot of routines, gyms, etc) but I discovered barre some days ago and I think it fits for me. I am so happy. You are a profesional dancer so I can trust you. Please make more routines for begginers. New suscriber 😊 hugs from Colombia (South America)

I did ballet when I was thirteen but due to money problems among a few other things but always remained a love for it so watching these videos at nearly twenty i didn’t realize how much I missed it and how much I remembered and forgot until now so I’m slowly learning the basics again

Me: please no more fifth position I’m dying Kathryn: *I’m about to end this mans whole career* Ok but seriously can someone please explain to me how one does fifth position?? My feet just dont bend that way whenever i try it looks like some deformed mix between third and fourth position
@Elizabeth-lv5dj4 жыл бұрын
Sophie X As far as I know it’s very similar to third position but the right foot in the front is tucked in further than in third. Be careful so you don’t hurt yourself 😅 I’m struggling with those dang leg raise things myself, any of the exercises where you have to raise your leg to your hip I’m so struggling.
@edelinet4 жыл бұрын
Turn out develops slowly for adults - so don't push your feet into fifth if your hips aren't loose enough. You could hurt yourself. The turn out needs to be from the hips, the knee caps aligned above the direction your toes are pointing... Go slow!
@ginaferrara42304 жыл бұрын
I do everything in third if fifth is the starting point. It’s literally impossible to keep a strong fifth as an adult. Your hips are set in place. Don’t feel bad. Eventually it will seem like less of a stretch.
@chasegoodridge89674 жыл бұрын
U need to start in third
@alexiaalexanderwight11994 жыл бұрын
You don't need to be as turned out as she is! If you're standing in first, you basically just move your front foot forward so your heel is touching your toe joint. It's totally fine if the angle between your feet at that point is like 90 degrees or even less, that flat fifth only comes with YEARS (or even decades) of training! (Apart from a few lucky souls who just have naturally great turnout hah)

Thanks a lot! I've been training with your videos for quite a while now. I've never taken ballet (except for a few classes as a exchange student), but I am hoping to join a dance society next year at uni. Your videos are really helpful! Could you do a very basic beginner centre workout? (I find the beginner centre video you have a bit too challenging for me)

THANK YOU SO MUCH KATHRYN!! please dont mind me being annoying, but I'm crazy sick of being stuck at home during quarantine living like a couch potato, I've decided to take up the 30 days challenge for your ballet courses to change up my lifestyle (despite being stuck at home)... and I'm gonna record every day's work and progress, thoughts and stuff in all the videos that I'll do hehe (sorry for channel-spamming) background: been doing ballet on the weekends on and off since I was like 8 (?) I've never committed myself tho so now I literally still just goto beginner/ intermediate classes for adults (so sad :'( ) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- !!!30 DAY CHALLENGE!!! day 1(June 2nd) - done: Classical Ballet Barre | Intermediate Advanced At Home Workout | YAGP Video day 2(June 5th) -done: Beginner Ballet Barre | At Home Ballet Class Workout | Kathryn Morgan (ok I skipped 2 days but at least I'm back now!!)

How do you differentiate between a Demi-plié and a grande-plié in second position?
@kathryn_morgan4 жыл бұрын
Grand plié is a little bit deeper! ❤️
@alma_najem4 жыл бұрын
Kathryn Morgan thank you! ❤️
@BoglimWrangler6664 жыл бұрын
your demi should be fairly shallow, with knees pressing to the side with resistance, while grand is just all flexibility
@esstown4 жыл бұрын
My ballet master (who is also a kinesiologist, lucky me!) explained it to me this way: In 2nd position, the demi is about half as deep as the grand. The main point of the grand plie in 2nd is turnout. So here is when you zero in on pressing your knees HARD towards the back, i.e. towards whatever wall is behind you. Open the book as wide as humanly possible as seen from the front! Then as you enter the grand keep holding this backward pressure towards the back wall as you go deeper. The grand should go as deep as you can without raising the heels. This works on your turnout strength in a more abducted hip position. Some people, who have limited plie due to inflexible ankles STRICTLY due to front lip of the leg bone (tibia) approximating against the top lip of the ankle bone (talus), which cannot be changed without surgery, are recommended to allow their heels off the ground slightly, at the very end of their grand plie in 2nd, so that they may engage their turnout in the full range intended by the grand in 2nd, hence not missing out on the benefit.
