Hi guys! Thanks for subscribing to my channel! Here is the link to the markers that I use: www.deserres.ca/en-ca/search/deserres-twin-tip-markers---medium/DMDP/ These artists markers are from a Canadian art store (and that is what I've linked to), but I recommend Primsacolor artists markers as well, and those should be available at your local art store.

Finally! I have been searching ages for what you offer... YOU HAVE THE ART, THE CRAFT, The Skill, YET you can also teach & instruct in ways even we VERY simpleton :-) begginers can comprehend! (Example: I'm a professional photographer, take award winning photos, but could never "teach" what I do). My handwriting is terrible, yet have so much to journal, gifts to make etc. Thanks so much for encouraging me to try...

Dear Shayda, I thoroughly enjoyed your videos on lettering and illustration. I am a creative who started my career as a typographer in the late 1970ies. It's refreshing to see the new generation developing new avenues of expression using the age old art of type. I'd like to throw some type lingo at you. Who knows, might even start a new trend! 2 guide lines that define the area the type will sit in is called the "cap height" or "x height for lower case". Arms or legs that fall above the x-height are called "ascenders", below the x-height "decenders. A general guide for the model of a font is based on the width of cap "H" except for the obvious of "M". Round characters, "C, G, O, Q, S fall just beyond the cap height lines (above, below and side to side) so it will visually compensate the reader's eye. The inside of a character, ex; O, is called a counter. The inside of a lowercase "e" is an eye. When 2 letters or characters are connected, it's called a ligature. ex; ff, fl, tr, etc. I hope this was helpful, if not, just an old lady rambling on. LOL Good luck, have fun and all the best to you. You inspired me. Thank you. Caryn Feel free to pick my brain if you'd like.

@magicasland8 жыл бұрын
Hello and greetings from Greece. Can I ask you something more personal? Why do you hold the pen this way? Is it the way you learn to write as child or a way you learn for drawing? I see this style from other illustrators also and I always wanted to ask because it seems so strange and difficult to me. Thanks.

Shayda, Is there a trick for getting both sides of the laurel at least approximately the same? I can't seem to do this! Thanks. Great video.
@ShaydaCampbell8 жыл бұрын
+Janet Pohl Hi! I usually don't worry too much about making the laurel super symmetrical. I would say don't worry about it, it looks natural for the laurel to be whimsical and uneven. I made my wedding invites by hand and each one had a slightly different (and probably very uneven) laurel! lol
@ShaydaCampbell8 жыл бұрын
+Janet Pohl Also, any time you want to practice symmetry it helps to sketch on graph paper.

This is great! Love the detail. However ... I just can't. I'm sorry, it's my own pet peeve, but watching the way Shayda grips the pen makes my brain hurt. I cannot imagine how to hold a pen that way and write, especially cursive. That grip ..... ugh. Sorry. I know it's my thing to deal with.
