I also remember my first day at Tandy leather going to get my kids so I can make my wallet for my Boy Scout merit badge. And I fell in love with it I wasn’t very good at it but I sure gave it a try. The hardest part I had was lacing it. But I sure did love it of course I love the smell! But I made a few things with it but I just never was really good at it but I sure wanted to get good so I kept at it and kept at it and I still have all my tools and keep increasing all my tools! Thank you sir for this given an instruction to what you need to get started.

Please remove the music and don't add it to future videos, it's quite distracting and sometimes hard to hear what he is saying. Also brighter lighting would be great. Otherwise, this was somewhat helpful

Please re-edit video and remove the music. It is wretched and does a disservice to the instructor and is quite distracting and annoying. I was worried about the instructor smashing his hand cause he was so shaky. Maybe he was really nervous?

Great instructions. Started leather work as a boy scout, now that I am retired I'm finding the desires to bring back a great hobby from my youth. It's amazing how much I forgotten this instruction is wonderful it brings back memories too.

Good start Jim, I too did some leather work back in my teenage days and made a couple of belts, horse gear, and a few other basic things. Now I have resurrected this interest after over 60 years of mulling around and experimenting with so many different hobbies/crafts/artsy careers that I am ready to get along with more technical leather work. I am out of sets of wood tools to make pouches, roll-ups, and sheaths for and will be watching for your 2nd and 3rd parts of this series. Don't wait too long, my short term memory isn't what it once was and I don't want to forget what it was I wanted to start!! ;-) Now, ...... uh, what were we talking about? .....

Belts are one of the easier things to make IF you have a strap cutter, but Tandy charges way to high for straps. Like a 1 1/2" wide strap is $24.99! Go to Weaver Leather Supply they have belt blanks starting around $8 and even sell English bridle buffalo leather in several different colors. www.weaverleathersupply.com/catalog/item-detail/40-0106/water-buffalo-belt/pr_55790/cp_/shop-now/leather/leather-straps-pieces/belt-straps

Thanks for the "think out of the box" demo of the flower with the different tools. I avoided using some of the tools because my design never matched the one in the practice book. I already see a new world of possibilities opening for fun carving.

I did leather work in high school and I loved it but haven't done it for a long time over 40 years I asked my aunt when she wasn't going to do leather work anymore I would love to have her tools but I didn't get her tools after she passed away she had a lot of tools would have been sentimental value to me if I had her tools

you're truly one of the best Jim. I was in the Boston Tandy store the other day and they told me how you used to accidentally call their store when trying to call corporate. :) Are you suffering from central tremor or something? Your work is still stellar as always but it's a testament to your skills to be able to fight that tremor like that.

I live in Canada and my grandfather was a saddle maker. As a result, I got to try this as a child and enjoyed it. I’m not sure I will be able to take this on as a hobby though as an adult and my sister is not interested. We have a massive chest of leather working tools passed down through the generations. So many tools! I have no idea what to do with it all or the value of them. Any advice?

@@farsalor2627 OK. Congratulations to a satisfied customer. I'm from Czech Republic. Friend comes from Italy. Order the same punch and price for Italy € 2,45 for the Czech Republic € 3,72 .. Why ?! Request for replacement of defective stamp - for Czech = in any case, for Italy = a new piece is sent + there is no need to return a faulty piece. Is this the right thing to do? I need quality tools. I'm definitely not happy. I have an understanding of the defective piece (nothing is 100%) but I have no understanding of the rejection attitude and arrogance.
