I love Eric's life lessons he gives: "Usually, in real life you want to be generous and kind to others. But in a chess game, it's okay to be greedy. No mercy."

My biggest takeaway from this is something you said several times. When you're up material, you can take your foot off the gas and improve your position. I think I play decently in the opening and take free stuff when I see it, but once I'm up I think it's time to go in for the kill and end up being sloppy. That was a big light bulb for me, being more patient. Love this content!

I'm so impatient I keep sacrificing pieces for attack, then end up in losing endgames that I only survive because a lot of people are bad at endgames. If I could manage to play games without trying to attack I'd probably win a lot more haha :D

That was actually a huge insight. As i was reading this this I realized that i do the same thing

so so true. End up losing the game about 50% of the time because of one move blunders when up material, being cocky etc. When you look at the analysis afterwards its often all the play coming from me or the opponent and one of us will have thrown the game in one move. Very instructive comment and video. :)

I've probably has this same thought, but in like a 1 second bite from during a blitz game. It's good for me to read and process this so I can internalize this concept and play better.

@@Blackmystix For sure, I played a a few games last night after watching this and reading your comment, and won 4 out of 5, just being more relaxed when you know you're winning from being up material and from a strategic view point. Very instructive. .

At 21:30 Eric suggests playing chess according to Captain Jack Sparrow. The first time in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie series that the pirate's code is mentioned is near the beginning of the first one. Jack and Gibbs are in a bar together recruiting a crew, and they toast to the code. Jack says "Take what you can." Gibbs says "Give *nothing* back." 😂🏴☠️

This may be one of the most instructional videos I’ve ever seen, and the pace at which you were going was perfect. I followed everything beautifully. Was even able to see the queen move at the end that attacked the knight and bishop. Great stuff!!

Eric, I love these. A (very) humble suggestion going forward: when development completed - discuss Middlegame plans. A few comments such as 'here, I plan to plan to play on the open e-file' or 'I'm looking to attack the weak b-pawn'...titled players often forget that these ideas are not obvious to someone at my level.

Chess might be the only game where a player can do some random opening moves with no reasoning, and a master can go oh that’s interesting they’re combining these things

I seem to recall that the engine thinks Qg5 is even stronger than Qd5 in the last position you showed after the center fork trick. I think it’s the same idea you mentioned while also pressuring g2. Just have to be alert to discoveries if white pushes the d pawn.

At 23:15, is Qd4 not a better move than Qe6? You keep the pin whilst still attacking the knight on top of the bishop and the B pawn
