I've gotta admit, I was hesitant at first. I made the mental connection with all the douchebag ravers of the 90s that I had to endure in my home town with the wide pants... but I have to appologise for my unfair preconceptions. These videos are fantastic. You explain everything in a way that makes perfect sense, which is more than I can say for most pay-for-lessons DVDs I've used for other things (like the guitar) and your videos show the moves incredibly clearly by people that understand the problems a newbie would have to overcome. It might be something to do with your confidence. How long have you been doing poi for? You need to remember to not be scared of them and just go with the flow. Sometimes it helps if you do it to music and go with the beat.

Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzfaq.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

i can do the shoulder one well most of the time but other times they tangle up while behind my back. any tips?

For forward to backward behind the back, am I supposed to be 'stalling' the poi at the top of the arc behind my back during a forward spin and then moving it into a backward spin as I complete the turn?
