I knew of a mentor who was colorblind who worked at Disney as a Background painter in the 90s. The colorblind artists had better grasp on values, atmospheric perspective, and depth than those who see the full range of color. Colorblind artists have better black and white illustrations than anyone else.

Good. Common sense. A rarity these days! I’m a retired portrait artist that did animals on the side. Old age and bad eyes forced the retirement.

I have tritanomaly other colors are effected to people for get things like even though its Blue and Yellow we can have a hard time with purples and greens too XD cause green is made from blue and yellow high contrast stuff is also hard T_T I have a color app Color Grab thats nice it tells me all the colors names and hex value and you can save it ^^

I can relate to this so much. Like when someone says u can't do something and you just HAVE to prove them wrong

biggest thing that had me held up for a while was the fact that it generally doesn't take much time to get a good grasp of the basics. Apparently just 15 - 20 hours is enough for you to be 'serviceable' with something, but for you to master it at a world class level, at least 10,000 hours. Keep this in mind when you practice with something and it doesn't feel like you're going anywhere fast - you're progressing, and that's what counts.

@@Gogglesofkrome also keep in mind that 10k hours is made up of thousands of 20 hour lessons.

Say that again!! As a perfectionist, I thought Charcoal and watercolors where ,mediums I would never use! After I had to reach 42 years old, to see my mistake. I grabbed some charcoal sticks that I had laying around my studio for years and gave them a try! The result blew my mind! I fall in love with charcoal and that, lead me to get my 1st watercolor set, to try that medium too and now I use both, as much as other mediums ,if not more!! We all have to try, as many mediums as we can!! It has a lot of benefits and in the same time, we never know what we will like or not, if we don't actually try. I'd never thought I would like charcoal, neither watercolors and I was 100% wrong!!

Gotta get an ever changing interest into art. Something you are working towards AND find fun to work at. Sounds impossible but it’s a million times better at getting you motivated than a long term goal that’s far away.

As a scientist, maybe look into botanical or anatomical drawing and see if you can adapt it for marine biology and oceanography. I would love to see what you come up with.

They spend the first hour ranting about creativity, then you get lower grades for thinking outside the box and not copying the famous art enough, I got art pieces failed because I used the "Wrong Colours" like Bruh

Well it's not all bad it's actually great to look at and try to understand ancient art it helped me greatly looking a paintings made by Caravaggio

nobody draws from imagination. And you don't learn that way either!! The key here is to use REFERENCES!!! That's the most important art tip ever. Always use references. Watch out, that doesn't mean copying, or tracing. Pick your reference image and break it down. Don't copy the lines, but imagine the SHAPE under the lines. Circles, triangles, cilinders. Learn about construction.. if you don't do that, you'll never improve. And when you go into drawing something, ALWAYS construct the whole thing first. Don't focus on details! Just the basic shapes. And references are key to all of this. To make your own drawings, mix references up! For example, let's say you want to draw Goku in a dynamic pose. Pick a reference for Goku (to see what he looks like! imagination is blurry and will always be). Then pick another reference of the pose you want, or you think looks cool. The web is full of those. You can even mix poses togheter if you understand anatomy and proportions enough! Break the pose, figure out the basic shapes. Then start adding details going over those. And then you slap Goku's hair, eyes and hair onto that. IT WON'T LOOK GOOD AT FIRST!!! That's ok! Just don't give up. We learn when we fail. The important thing is failing successfully! Come back to the drawing the next day and you'll have much more clarity. You'll notice mistakes, absorbe them, and don't repeat them. Don't focus too much on a single drawing! Do lots and do them quick! You'll learn much faster that way. And remember, drawing is supposed to be fun. Come back to your comfort zone when you feel bad or burned out, or stop drawing for a couple of days. But never give up! Your future self will be proud of you.
