Great tips! These machine related tips I don't see as much mentioned, and all those little things help the machine perform the best! I think of my sewing machine as this proud seamstress that demand I treat her right, otherwise she starts acting up 😂

Great tips. Lifting the presser foot before threading the machine is new to me (30-plus year sewer, too). Bobbins: the bobbin in my Viking machine spools clockwise; in my Singer it spools counter-clockwise (I think, ha ha).

Good tips. I have the 1260, same as yours just with an extra alphabet plate. I really love mine and love Bernina.

Yay for that Bernina series, seems to be so many out there working well, despite being decades old

Watching a Craftsy video made by a professional in the garment industry who pinches & lifts her fabric slightly as she sews, and never lets her hand go beyond the needle plate on the top. It really does help me to sew accurately and eliminates the need for excessive pinning.

Great video! It is also good to hold on to the threads at the beginning of the seam, otherwise it might be a mess :) which I have succeeded in doing.. The mess that is.

Fellow Swede and budding home-sewist here. I’m a plus-sized gal and since the commercial stores offer very few fun items for my size I’ve started to create my own patterns. I now have a few patterns (in cheap thin patternpaper) that I would like to save for further projects and I need a sturdier paper so they last. A friend of mine recommended “flooring paper” (golvpapp/mjölkpapp) - a white paper, cheap by the meter and one side with plastic coating. In your opinion, what would you recommend?

Greetings from the US. I've never heard of flooring paper used for patterns but it sounds like a great idea. I'm going to share it with a friend who Is a professional costumer and does everything from the initial designs to sewing the final products. He also learned to sew because of his size. He was always on the larger side and couldn't find clothes like the ones that his secondary school classmates were wearing. He decided that he could solve the problem by making his own clothing and found that he loved every step of the process. He also loved theatre and found a profession that combined his two passions.

I've not tried flooring paper, but I often use those cheap Målarpapp/Golvskydd rolls of brown sturdy paper to retrace patterns that I plan to use often. They will last a lifetime, I've even done a video tutorial where I use that exact product kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p9-KfLCWqtyUqZc.html

I saw a video recently where a sewist ironed on very thin interfacing to her paper pattern and used these as her pattern pieces. It works really well.

I haven't tried this yet, but some types of interfacing are good for tracing pattern-pieces that are more durable than paper. Pellon 830 Easy Pattern seems to be one: www.joann.com/pellon-830-easy-pattern-45in-x-10-yd-board/15150568.html

I am surprised you didn't mention holding the thread when starting your stitch! Some sewing machines are more 'vulnerable' than others, but it can be the sole cause of ratsnests on the beginning of stitches. For me it kept happening seemingly randomly, until I figured out that this actually caused these.
