Question for you, I live in eaton county MI, part of Lansing is in eaton co.. They went digital 5 months ago, so my old digital scanner will not pick up simulcast how is your sds100 doing in Lansing Michigan?... I will soon be acquiring one if simulcast works out very well which I'm hoping it does cuz my scanner is DOA... so if you could can you tell me your thoughts on it and are you happy with it and how well it does for Lansing thank you for your time

Bish Bash absolutely! Picks up all the digital, it will not pick up encrypted digital though but I get Lansing fantastic!!

Not every frequency in a county is on simulcast; which is why you can still receive some.

@@Zipscanners1 On the RR Database Greene County is listed as "Green Co. Simulcast". According to your video that indicates that it's simulcast. If that's inaccurate then how do you tell if something is simulcast or not. I suspect the 436HP can handle simulcast in a low traffic area like where I am but only has issue if it's a high traffic area like where you were testing in the video.

I like your question because in Clinton Co Ny they just switched to a p25p2 simulcast system and i with use of rr database programed it in my bcd996p2 and it works for me but it depends on witch antenna I use the tram 1411 on the roof i lose it but indoor antenna works fine

@@jeffmaring2546 I also read in one of the forums on RR Database that your location has a lot to do with it too. Since I can receive the simulcast at home that doesn't mean I will be able to receive it if I go a mile down the road. Since I only use my scanner here at home that's no problem for me.

@@jeffmaring2546 That makes sense and I have seen this. Sometimes placing the radio/antenna in an indoor area reduces the interferer enough to give you capture from another site. If you listen to the video at 4:00, the explanation of simulcast isn't exactly correct. The number of primary and alt control channels has absolutely nothing to do with simulcast or simulcast distortion. Alt CCs are there simply as failover in case the primary fails or needs maintenance. Also, the repeater frequencies are not bouncing from tower to tower. The frequencies are simultaneously transmitting from all towers, hence the term simulcast. This simultaneous transmission technique requires directional antennas, GPS time/launch sync, power adjustments, and phase delays in order to minimize distortion from tower sites to subscribers/scanners. Your scanner's receiver isn't as good as public safety grade receivers at picking up signals that are distorted, so that's why simulcast is hard to receive on a consumer grade scanner. You can possibly overcome by moving antenna locations or maybe trying a directional antenna.

Scanners have changed a lot and what used to work in the past may not work nowadays.

@@Zipscanners1 no problem, i subbed, but your last stream lasted 10 seconds, youtube error? i came here looking for guidance on simulcast towers, i.e. why program 10 towers if you only need 1, if i'm at home, my desktop scanner only needs to listen to one tower, the strongest. but i find that when i press hold, it locks onto a different tower and i dont hear a peep.
