Just another tip: if you wrap the blue tape around the bit and leave about 1 inch excess blue tape hanging off, it will act as a mini fan and will blow the dust away from the bit.

I hung a 2x4 on the wall to make a shelf unit come out from wall about 24inches. I was using 3 3/4 anchors. The wall unfortunately on the one end 'hollowed out' on me. so I went to 3inch wedges. They seemed to tighten up better and the drill bit didn't hollow out as I didn't go in as far. Problem is, when I got done, from looking down from the top only, i can see every anchor, the 2x4 didn't stay close enough to the wall. Don't know if I should loosen all the nuts and pound in more, or will that weaken it. None of them really seemed to tighten as much as yours did either. I saw one video that said only 2 turns. I think it seems strong but am worried.

I want to attach 2x4 to concrete wall, but have a 1 inch foam board glued to the wall for insulation. Can I drill through the foam and attach the 2x4 over top of the foam, or will torqueing the nut down crush the foam? I would rather keep the foam for a thermal barrier.

I am using a wedge anchor to fasten a bison panel (cement bonded particle board made out of 62% cement & 28% wood) to a wall. I'm afraid that while tightening the nut , the board might crumble. Is it ok to first tighten the nut thereby wedging the anchor first and then remove the nut and then fasten the board to it? The real question being, does it remain wedged only as long as the nut is on there ?
@tinamarie4875

Rookie mistake there when you remove the drill bit from the hole and sweep the dust away. You should leave the drill bit in the hole and either sweep or better yet have a portable vacuum on hand. This way you don't sweep dust inside the hole!

I followed all the instructions to mount a 3/8” anchor. I drilled a 3/8” hole about 2 3/4” and cleaned out the inside of the hole. But after 15 hits with a hammer I’ve only managed to get the anchor bolt about 1” into the concrete. All the videos I’ve watched shows anchor bolts being easily hammered in with just a few hits. What’s gone wrong? I’m your video what is the drill size for your 3/8” anchor bolt? Any ideas anyone? Should I have drilled a 1/2” hole for a 3/8” anchor bolt? Thanks.

Hi, I read your comment and based purely what you wrote my tips are these a) drill bit size matches instructions wedge anchor is diameter of thread size, sleeve anchor (we call them dynabolts) drill size is diameter of sleeve. (If you drill a larger diameter hole the expansion wont grab and the anchor will spin as you tighten never fully locking) b) depth of drilled hole always longer than anchor, c) masonry drill running as you exit the hole, d) properly cleaning (hole brush and also pumped air) cannot stress cleaning enough dust in there compacts and jams anchor going in, e) loosening the nut slightly so the wedge has some movement before you insert the anchor, f) I try to use only my fingers to push the anchor fully in, tapping with hammer if required. Sometimes when using fingers to insert the you can feel a protrusion in the drilled hole this way and then I redrill once. I have had the problem you describe and I put it down to the anchor jamming on some protrusion (small piece of masonry the drill skipped over or residual dust) as you hammer it just locks.

I drilled the hole using a 1/4” drill bit. I put the wedge anchor into the hole. It actually slid in rather easily. I had to use a hammer to get it all the way. When I started tightening the locknut, the anchor spins freely. What can I do to get it to work? Do you need a washer? My fear is the hole is too big for the anchor which I’m not sure how that happened. I used the exact size bit the directions called for. Should I try a different type of anchor?
@AlbanyCountyFasteners
@AlbanyCountyFasteners 2 жыл бұрын
If your anchor is 1/4" then this is the correct hole size. Yes, there should always be a washer under the nut. To resolve the issue if the anchor is 1/4" then pull on the Achor with your hand or the claw if the hammer to set the Achor. If the Achor just pulls-out, then remove the Achor and review the shield at the bottom of the Achor that creates the locking mechanism to see it is operating. Or change the Achor. Good luck!

On the box, it says that you should Torque the Nuts down to 55 ft. lbs. It would be very easy to Over Tighten the Nuts damaging / deforming the sliding piece at the bottom, lowering the hold down capacity.

But if you actually go by bolt size for your comparison with sleve anchors sleve anchors are actually stronger because a 1/2 inch sleve anchor has a 3/8 in bolt inside and has alot more pullout force than a 3/8 in wedge anchor.

It can be, if you're installing into solid concrete. Sleeve anchors could also work, though the only reason I can think of that they aren't tightening for you further is that they are already gripping the insides of the hole as much as they can. What exactly are you installing into?

Wedge Anchors are a one-way trip. They were never intended to be removed after installation. If they were, they wouldn't make very good anchors. This is why it's very important to take great care in where you install these. If the worst should happen, the best you can do is cut off the part that's sticking out then use a hammer to drive the remaining anchor below the surface.
